Passage 1
(2025·江苏无锡·期终教学质量调研(一模)
When Sam was two years and two months old, he began to shut the world away. The once-happy little boy, who was already starting to pick up words of both English and Spanish, suddenly stopped speaking; stopped looking his family in the eye; stopped communicating altogether. Most of the time, all Sam did was lie on the sofa touching his ears.
He started to display certain behavioral changes. He began to have this funny thing with straight lines where he would pick up a toy and look at it sideways, or lie on his front for hours on end, rolling a car in front of his eyes.
Within two years, his mother Jo visited one expert after another with Sam and tried various treatment methods; however, nothing seemed to work. What was worse, in about three weeks Sam’s grandfather died of cancer, his parents divorced and his family were robbed — and all the while, Sam was becoming more and more withdrawn. His eyes were dead.
And it was then that Sam was eventually diagnosed (诊断) with autism (自闭症).
As a single mother, Jo had no choice but to go straight to work herself to earn a living while researching the condition and try her best to help Sam to come back out of himself. For Jo, the following eight years was a terrifying time, watching her son disappearing just in front of her eyes. All methods tried, money running out, Jo had no choice but to take Sam, by now completely non-verbal (不使用言语交际的), from the hustle and bustle (喧嚣) of the city to the calm of the Devon countryside.
Once on a local farm, they came across Chester, a mini pig belonging to a farmer. It was so small that they didn’t even see it at first sight. As they walked down the grassland, the only little pig was hiding in the corner. He looked sad and lonely, like Sam often did.

【答案】
When Sam saw Chester, he went over to the little pig immediately. Sam, who had been so isolated, reached out and gently touched the pig. Chester got closer to Sam in response, as if acknowledging a new friend. For the first time in years, Sam’s eyes lit up with a spark of curiosity and warmth. Jo watched in amazement and decided there and then to buy it. She approached the farmer and asked if they could buy the pig, hoping Chester might breathe vitality into Sam’s life.
The farmer agreed and Jo took Chester home. Since then, Sam and Chester were like peas and carrots. Chester’s presence became a comfort to Sam’s lonely soul. He would often sit beside Chester, stroking its back. Jo noticed a gradual change in Sam — he began having more interactions with Chester and her. Apparently, the unique bond between Sam and Chester had a good effect on Sam’s other relationships, offering Jo hope that her son might slowly find his way back to the world.

Passage 2
(2025·湖南长沙·高三上学期新高考适应性考试)
It was New Year’s Day. I made a resolution to find my stray (走失的) dog, Puppy-Rocky. In the morning, I could hear icy rain knocking the windows. I said a quick prayer for Puppy-Rocky. He was out there somewhere in the storm, and I could just feel it. Sure, it had been three months since he’d gone missing, but I still had faith. It was the season for miracles (奇迹).
That fall, Puppy-Rocky, my sweet dog, had disappeared from my parents’ house in California. He had been staying with them while I was between apartments. At the time, I lived and worked in New York City. I was staying with friends until I signed my lease (租约) on a new place. Puppy-Rocky had gotten out of my parents’ house two days before I was set to fly back home to pick him up.
My mom and I spent that entire visit searching for him. Mom was the family’s resident “realist”, which meant she spent a whole lot of time trying to prepare me for the worst. “He’s either been hit by a car or been taken in by someone who found him,” she said. I rolled my eyes. Mom always supported me, but this time she doubted. She could have done with a little more faith!
Besides, though I couldn’t explain it, I believed I’d see my Puppy-Rocky again. His barks never faded away. He’d been homeless when I first met him, a naughty little dog that had survived all on his own. If any dog could do the impossible, it was my Puppy-Rocky. Even after I returned to New York City without him and the weeks stretched into months, deep down I had this feeling that we’d be reunited.
Now, home again for the holidays, I was determined to pick up my search. I grabbed Puppy-Rocky’s carrier, loaded it into the car, and then asked my mom to drive me to the shelter for the homeless dogs, hoping he’d been found.
“Dave, you have to be realistic,” my mom said as we headed to the garage. “He’s been gone too long. You’re not going to find him.”

【答案】
“Don’t you believe in New Year miracles ” I asked. Rolling the eyes, Mom climbed into the driver’s seat, mumbling to herself, “There’s just no way. You’re not going to find him. Be realistic.” “Mom! It’s my Puppy-Rocky! Promise! I’m sure I will see him again!!!” I kept yelling on the way to the shelter. Upon arriving there, we walked through rows of cages from room to room. I carefully examined dogs of all colors, shapes and sizes. None! All our efforts were in vain. Hopeless as it might be, I went on searching, followed by my mom, who had been trying to prepare me for the worst.
When I stepped into the last room of the shelter, a familiar bark came into my ears. Following the sound, I spotted a little dog wagging the tail towards me. It was him I double-checked it… Exactly, my Puppy-Rocky! It was bonier than ever before. Excited tears welling up, I immediately opened the cage door. He jumped into my arms as usual. I held him closely as Mom looked on, mouth wide open. It was indeed the season of miracle: three months after separation, we reunited. Puppy-Rocky’s return did let me, and especially my mom, firmly believe: we can do with more faith!

Passage 1
(2025·浙江绍兴·一模)
For years, swimming was one of those things where I thought: “I’m not good at it, and I never will be.” That thought lingered there most of my childhood.
This all changed last year when the company I worked for announced that they were going to arrange a swimrun, a race where you partially swim and partially run to finish the race. Of course, it was a voluntary activity and I was not going to participate.
However, as the weeks progressed, I started thinking to myself. “What would it feel like to break through my comfort zone and finally face my insecurity ” To help the swimrun participants prepare for the race, the company arranged an opportunity to learn how to swim freestyle with a swim instructor. I ultimately decided to at least participate in the first swimming lesson.
I was mentally prepared to be the worst student during the lesson. However, as it turned out, I had plenty of co-workers that were equally bad at swimming. After a few swimming lessons, I even got compliments for how quickly I managed to improve. Not only had I shattered my old belief about my disability in water, but something else had started to stir. I had gotten a taste for swimming and was curious to see where it could lead me. “How would it feel like to be completely comfortable in the water ” I wondered.
I started going to the public bathhouse to practice the few tips I had gotten from the swimming instructor. I’d watch YouTube videos and try and mimic the movements by myself in the water to the best of my abilities.
Without a doubt - in the beginning, I looked like a drowning monkey. I would swim; I would sink, coughing up water, and repeat it all over again. I’d get yelled at for swimming too slow at the freestyle range. However, I focused on the process and the soon-to-be new skillset that I did not get discouraged by the slow progress nor the occasional scolding.

Regarding the swimrun, I eventually decided to participate. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
The thought of gliding through water effortlessly was what kept me going. At a certain point, I hit a plateau, So, I decided to contact my swimming instructor for more swimming lessons. Under his guidance, I started to practice more by myself. Some days, I would come back seriously wondering if my body constitution was meant for swimming at all. On other days, I would feel fantastic while completing my laps. Still, there was one single thing that stood out during my practice sessions: while repeating thousands and thousands of crawling strokes, I slowly but surely started to enjoy the process of swimming thoroughly.
Regarding the swimrun, I eventually decided to participate. For me, this challenge was pushing me to my limits, as I had been utterly scared to confront this weakness of mine. The race began, and soon I was completely breathless from the physical exertion. However, I solely focused on all the movements I had been practicing repetitively throughout the summer. Before I knew it, I had finished. The swimrun had been my end goal but I already knew by then that I was going to continue swimming. I wished my childhood self could meet my present-day self to see that I was not naturally bad at swimming. It was possible to change and surpass the boundaries of my comfort zone.

Passage 2
(2025·浙江台州·一模)
“Why can’t Grandpa just be normal Why does he have to be so odd ” Carter asked his Grandma.
Grandma laughed. “I’ve considered that for many years.”
They sat on a Florida beach, watching Grandpa and his friends riding wave-skis in the ocean. The early morning sun warmed their faces as the sand gradually heated beneath them.
Carter scooped up a handful of sand and let it sift through his fingers. “Why do we have to come here so early ” he questioned, noting that the rest of his family was still asleep.
With a smile, Grandma explained that the morning waves were calmer with less wind. She mentioned how Grandpa loved the thrill of a big wave’s shadow looming over him before it hit.
Carter grumbled that none of his friends knew what a wave-ski was, and they thought it was odd when he tried to explain it. He wondered why Grandpa didn’t pick a more typical hobby, like restoring old cars, which he thought seemed cooler.
Grandma patted Carter’s shoulder and replied that wave-skiing was like surfing on a short kayak (皮艇), combining elements of kayaking and surfing. She added how they paddled out to catch bigger waves like surfers, steering with a paddle, and highlighted the thrill of the experience.
“Nobody’s grandpa does this. I love you both, but neither of you act s like typical grandparents,” Carter remarked.
Grandma laughed again, sharing that Grandpa’s friends were also grandparents and asked what else they should be doing.
Carter, unsure, simply muttered, “I don’t know. Grandparent stuff.”
“Each summer, your family visits. We enjoy the beach, swim, and cherish our time together. That’s what truly matters. Everyone has their own way of enjoying life, and for Grandpa, it’s wave-skiing.” Grandma paused, her eyes sparkling with warmth.
Carter sighed. “I guess. But it’s still odd.”
“Why don’t you give it a try You might find it’s more fun than you think,”
Grandma encouraged. Carter hesitated but agreed. “Okay, I’ll give it a shot.”

【答案】One possible version: (192 words)
The next morning, Carter and Grandpa headed out early. Grandpa handed him a smaller waveski and helped secure the strap before they paddled out. In the golden sun, Carter, drowsy- eyed, watched in awe as Grandpa skillfully demonstrated how to balance and steer, riding up and down waves effortlessly. Amid the rolling waves, his “odd” grandpa was no longer an old guy but a marvelous waveskier. “Ready, champ ” Grandpa’s shouts brought Carter’s thoughts back. “Yes!” Carter yelled, a flicker of excitement bubbling inside him. Despite frequent tumbles into the cool and salty water, he finally caught “his” first wave, savoring the thrilling rush like never before.
By the end of the morning, Carter was grinning from ear to ear. “I did it, Grandpa! I could ride waves!” Carter exclaimed breathlessly. Grandpa beamed, clapping him on the back. “You sure did, buddy.” While paddling back, Carter had a newfound appreciation for Grandpa and his unusual hobby. Back on the beach, Grandma smiled and asked, “How was it ” “Awesome! I bet my friends will like it, too!” Carter replied proudly. Over the following weeks, Carter and Grandpa shared many early morning waveskiing sessions, creating cherished memories and deepening their bonds. Through these times, Carter realized being “odd” was just a unique way to embrace life’s unexpected joys.

Passage 3
(2025江苏省泰州市海陵区江苏省泰州中学一模)
My friend invited me to a trapeze (高空秋千) class. I was doubtful because of a lack of courage and a short of self-confidence, but her enthusiasm and assurances of strict safety rules won me over.
I had been fearful of heights since elementary school and avoiding my fear of heights became second nature. But here I was, at age twenty-six, facing my fear of heights in a rather extreme way. I had come around to the idea of trying trapeze. I figured it wasn’t much different from swinging (舞动) on the monkey bars as a kid. One difficulty I didn’t expect was the ladder (梯子). In order to reach the trapeze, I had to climb up a twenty-two-foot ladder.
I could hear one of my classmates expressing her impatience with my slow climb up the ladder. “If she’s afraid of heights, why did she sign up for a trapeze class ” However, my friend was at the top of the ladder, trying to encourage me. Besides, his distraction techniques helped to take my mind off my dangerous task. I found a rhythm(节奏) and kept going. With a slow and steady pace, I made it to the top. The cheers from my classmates rang out below.
An instructor told me to step to the edge of the platform. He reminded me of the safety rules, including the net below that would catch me at the bottom. He also asked me to listen to the directions while in the air, so I could perform a trick.
As the instructor counted down, I took a deep breath and pushed off the platform, swinging back and forth. At that moment, I lost awareness of time and space. Fortunately, the instructor’s voice came over the loudspeaker, giving me step-by-step instructions for performing a trick. Instead of doubting my inability to perform the trick, I took his directions one step at a time.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
During my flight on the trapeze. my fear didn’t completely leave me. My palms were clammy, my heart was racing, and my mouth was dry. But I turned down the dial of my fear so I could be present in the experience. I focused my thoughts on the instructor’s voice instead of my internal dialogue about what could go wrong. In the end, I successfully completed the task. I couldn’t believe I had actually done it!
This experience opened up a new way of seeing myself and approaching other challenges. I became more capable of overcoming my fear and learned to believe in myself. I became more open to try new things. After my trapeze flight, I took an archery class, went on my first kayaking trip, and hiked along a 200-foot cliff in Nova Scotia. While these experiences made my heart pound, I completed them, one step at a time. Whether my steps were small or big on the ground or in midair, I wanted to keep stepping out of my comfort zone.

Passage 4
(2025·安徽合肥·高三上学期第一次教学质量检测)
A Game of Growth
The gym was alive with the sounds of squeaking (嘎吱作响) shoes, bouncing basketballs, and teammates shouting plays. It was game day, and I should have been focused, but my mind was elsewhere. My thoughts dragged me down, and I couldn’t shake the heaviness I felt.
Every time I passed the ball, Ryan, one of our best players, would make some snide (挖苦的) remarks: “Can’t you aim better, Eliot ” or “Guess we know who won’t be taking the game-winning shot today.” His words cut deep, feeding my doubts. I wanted to fire back, but the energy wasn’t there.
Coach Rivera noticed something was off. “Eliot, can I talk to you for a second ” he said after practice. His voice was calm but firm, the way it always was when he saw something wrong. I sighed, knowing I couldn’t avoid the conversation. “Yeah, Coach ” He studied me for a moment, his eyes serious. “You’re not yourself lately. I’ve also noticed there’s tension between you and Ryan. What’s going on ”
I hesitated, then said, “Nothing, I’m fine.”
Coach didn’t buy it. “I’ve been around long enough to know when something’s weighing on a player. You’ re not just dealing with basketball issues, are you ”
I finally admitted, my throat tight and my eyes starting to water, “I have some family problems…my parents had an accident, and I’ve had to take care of them.”
Coach nodded, understanding. “That’s a lot to handle. But Ryan... he’s a tough guy, and you two are teammates, and the team only works if you’ re united. Let’s talk things through.”
The next day. Coach pulled Ryan and me aside. The conversation was awkward at first. Ryan explained that he felt I wasn’t pulling my weight in the games. I told him about my situation though I didn’t go into details.
Ryan’s expression softened. “I didn’t know you were dealing with so much. I’m sorry for pushing you too hard,” he said. “I could’ve handled it better,” I admitted.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
With Coach’s help, Ryan and I started working together instead of against each other. We found a rhythm on the court that we hadn’t had before. Ryan made an effort to understand my situation off the court and offered his support. Our teamwork improved, and so did our performance. The atmosphere in the gym became more positive, filled with encouragement. It was about overcoming challenges together. Coach reminded us that growth often comes from facing adversity, and through this, we learned lessons beyond the sport.
In the championship game, Ryan passed me the ball for the game-winning shot. Time seemed to slow as I took the shot. It wasn’t just about scoring; it symbolized all we’d been through. The crowd cheered as the ball went in. This victory felt sweeter because it showed our growth and the strength gained off the court. Ryan’s trust during that moment proved we had turned a corner. We didn’t just win a game; we strengthened our bond as teammates and friends.

Passage 5
(2025·广东大湾区普通高中毕业班联合模拟考试(一))
The boys in the block were going to have a roller-skating (滑旱冰) race next Saturday. They were divided into two teams: the Sunnysiders and the Shadysiders, with five boys on each team. Andy was on the Sunnysiders. They lost last year, so they were desperate to win this time. But Andy knew his short legs made it hard for him to skate fast.
One day, Andy was greeted by a pleasant “Hello” as he was putting on his roller-skates. He looked up and saw his new neighbor, Francis. “Hello! ” he replied cheerfully, noticing his neighbor’s long legs. “Wanna skate with me Look at your long legs! Just the right kind to make you a good skater.” “I’d love to. You know, I’m really good at roller skating and I used to help my team win.” Francis said, his tone now heavy with sadness. “But I lost my roller skates and my mom just cannot afford to buy me another pair.”
Andy thought it was a shame for Francis. As a new comer, there were undoubtedly many moments when he must have felt lonely. Andy thought to himself, wondering what he could do for Francis. But he had to say goodbye in a hurry since the team were meeting in the open space on the corner to talk over some plans.
When talking to the team captain, Andy suggested adding another boy to their team, Francis. But the captain said “No” as the team knew nothing about him. Besides, the Shadysiders wouldn’t let them take on an extra player.
In the following days, Andy practiced very hard with his team. Then came the day before the race when he saw Francis on the sidewalk, watching them skate past, his eyes filled with a sense of loss. Somehow it upset Andy, and his desire to help his new neighbor resurfaced. Then he thought of a way that could not only help his team win, but help Francis fit in.

【答案】He rushed to Francis, excited to tell him his plan. “Francis, you can use my skates in the race tomorrow! ” Andy yelled, eyes shining with hope. Francis hesitated. Noticing that, Andy explained that having him on their team would not only boost their chances of winning but also help him make more friends. Eventually, Francis put on the roller-skates and skated around, his talent instantly impressing the captain who was nearby. Struck by Francis’ excellent skills, the captain agreed to include the new boy. At that moment, Andy felt a touch of emptiness for giving up his own chance, but a surge of excitement for the plan as well.
The next day, the race began as scheduled. Francis, wearing Andy’s skates, stood at the starting line, looking determined, while Andy, from the sidelines, felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness. The race was intense, but Francis’ excellent skating skills helped the Sunnysiders finally win the race. Once the race was finished, Francis, now part of the team, skated over to Andy with the others. Together, they lifted Andy onto their shoulders, celebrating not just the victory but also the newfound friendships. Cheers filled the air, and Andy experienced a swell of pride and a profound sense of accomplishment for the success of his friend and the team.

Passage 6
(2025·广东省建文教育集团高三1月第一次模拟考试)
It was my inaugural year as an educator in a special needs classroom, and I harbored a degree of uncertainty regarding what to anticipate at our annual Special Olympics track meet. My students presented a spectrum of challenges, ranging from mild learning disabilities to severe palsy. Mark was one of the latter, confined to a motorized wheelchair and constantly battling his spasms to maintain control over his movements. Despite this, he consistently exhibited a positive disposition, greeting everyone each morning with an expansive smile.
His classmates held him in high regard and made a concerted effort to ensure his inclusion in group activities. This was particularly evident with Mike, Andy, and Lucas, three boys who excelled in sports. In my heart, I knew Mark aspired to be like them, unencumbered by the physical limitations that bound him, and the grace with which they navigated the playing field seemed to captivate him with a sense of wonder. He never missed their competitions and was always their most ardent supporter. Witnessing Mike, Andy, and Lucas cross the finish line, Mark’s excitement was palpable.
On the day of the track and field event, Mike, Andy, and Lucas performed admirably in their heats, providing the typically tranquil crowd with ample reason to cheer. Mark, seated on the sidelines, enthusiastically cheered them on, though he finished last in his own heat due to the limitations of his wheelchair’s speed.
The culminating event of the day was the 400-meter race, in which everyone was invited to participate, either by walking or running, according to their capabilities, around the entire circumference of the track. We observed as the sprinters launched into action — Mike, Andy, and Lucas, each intent on demonstrating their athletic prowess.
However, as the trio of exhausted runners reached the finish line, they paused and turned to survey the scene behind them. At the rear of the crowd, resolutely determined not to be left behind, was Mark. His classmates had already surpassed him, and even the slowest walkers were outpacing him.

【答案】
Mark was alone on the track with over half the distance left to cover. Mike, Andy and Lucas looked at each other, and a silent thought passed among them. They nodded to each other and turned around together. They jogged back towards their friend Mark and slowly enfolded him in a tight circle and kept pace, cheering him on as he had done for them moments before. Seeing what they did, the whole field was boiling. All the audience stood up and cheered for the four friends.
Mark was moved to see his three friends come back and run with him. He had never imagined that they could run with him on the track. The progress was slow, but in the end the three-star runners and Mark crossed the finish line together to the enthusiastic cries of their teachers and classmates. Seeing the smile on Mark’s face, I came to understand what makes the Special Olympics and the determined athletes who compete so extraordinary. Years later, I still remember the day. That’s not just because of the competition, but because of the warm friendship between Mark and his friends.

Passage 1
(2025·浙江温州·一模)
The stage lights in the music hall darkened, as the next school’s concert band settled onstage. The First Chair, a young violinist, called upon each section to play, tuning them with precision and grace. The moment the musical director appeared, a wave of applause filled the air.
The annual High School Music Festival was the highlight of my year. As a music teacher, I never missed a session, always amazed by the extraordinary talents the musical directors inspired in their students. But this year might be my last visit. With age catching up, my desire for retirement was growing stronger.
Honestly, there was always a touch of dissatisfaction and envy in my heart as I watched these school bands, because I had never been able to develop a band to this level. I taught in a small primary school. My students played beginner music, and they were happy when we managed to play from the start all the way to the end of a piece, with all the instruments finishing together. The complexities of full tone, dynamic control, and balance were beyond their abilities.
As the band opened with their first piece, the striking sound of violins, accompanied by the lively notes of pianos, set my heart pounding. Wouldn’t it be great to be the musical director for one of these massive high school bands I thought as the music transported me. When the last notes rang out, there was a brief silence before thunderous applause erupted. My aging eyes scanned (察看) the stage, seeking familiar faces among the performers. But my vision was no longer sharp enough to recognize anyone.
During the tea break, I headed toward the entrance hall. “Miss Jones!” a young man’s voice cut through the crowd. I recognized the concert uniform he was wearing. It was the very violinist I had been admiring. Puzzled, I searched his face for familiar features. It turned out to be Bradley, a former student of mine who was difficult to forget. Schoolwork had been hard for him, and he had struggled through all his subjects. It was a pleasant surprise to meet him here. We sat down and had a chat.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
I remembered the day when he asked to join the school band. He was so eager, but he had no prior musical experience. I was hesitant at first, but his enthusiasm convinced me to give him a chance. I started from the very basics with him. He practiced hard, often staying after school to get extra help. It was a long and difficult journey, but he never gave up. And now, seeing him as the First Chair in this high school band, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment.
I was still smiling as I made my way back to the music hall. I realized that every student has the potential to grow and shine, regardless of their starting point. My small primary school students might not be as advanced as these high schoolers yet, but they too could achieve great things with time and dedication. I gladly decided that I would not retire just yet. I wanted to continue teaching, to inspire my students just as I had inspired Bradley, and to see where their musical journeys would take them.

Passage 2
(2025·浙江杭州·一模)
Mary was the art teacher for primary school students. On this particular day, she was guiding them through the process of drawing a scenic landscape. Akila yawned(打哈欠), clearly disinterested - drawing wasn’t her thing. A small group of students gathered around Tina, laughing at her unusual drawing: a sun sporting sunglasses and trees topped with ice cream cones.
Mary instructed Tina firmly but with unease, “Draw it the way I showed you.” As the lesson continued, doubt crept into Mary’s mind. Had the joy of creativity been overshadowed by the pressure to fit in She scanned the room, observing her students’ faces – some concentrated, others uncertain. Akila’s disinterest was clear and Tina’s imaginative drawing had been met with ridicule instead of praise.
After class, Mary sat down with Tina, her tone softening, “Why did you draw the sun with sunglasses and the trees with ice creams ” she asked gently.
Tina’s eyes sparkled with a touch of rebellion (叛逆)-“I love ice cream, and I thought the sun would look cool with sunglasses. Why do we always have to draw like everyone else ”
Mary paused, her thoughts racing. Tina’s drawings weren’t just curious —they were a window into a world where imagination ruled, where rales could be bent into delightful chaos. Was she, by enforcing a rigid style, killing that very creativity
The next morning, Mary walked into the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose. She placed a large sheet of paper in front of the class and announced a new project: they would create a collective(集体的)artwork titled “Our Dream World” with no rules. They were free to use colors, shapes, and patterns however they wished.
At first, the students hesitated, unsure of this newfound freedom. Akila leaned back, skeptical of what seemed like another pointless exercise. But Tina, her creativity no longer restricted, eagerly grabbed her crayons and began to draw with abandon. Then, Maya joined in. And then Michael...

【答案】Paragraph 1: As the students worked. Mary observed them with curiosity. She noticed how Akila, initially disinterested, had quietly chosen vibrant colors and was now blending them together to create a swirling sky filled with fantastical creatures that flew over a stone castle. Meanwhile, Tina was enthusiastically adding playful details to her section of the paper-a whimsical garden where flowers wore hats and creatures rested on the ice cream-topped trees. Mary felt a wave of relief washed over her. The room was alive with chatter and laughter, as Akila and Tina frequently exchanged ideas and inspired one another. Akila even leaned over to admire Tina’s ice cream trees and said, “That is mind-blowing!” It was wonderful to see them cooperate, their initial differences melting away in the warmth of shared creativity.
Paragraph 2: Mary stood back and surveyed the creation. The enomious canvas had transformed into a magnificent portrayal of each student’s imagination, forming a breathtaking landscape that reflected their individuality yet spoke to their collective spirit. Mary felt a sense of pride swell within her; she realized that in letting go of rigid structures, her students gave their painting an unrealistic but dream-like quality. Akila, Tina, and the rest of the class had not only embraced their own creative paths but had also nurtured each other’s ideas. They were thrilled, “It was the best painting ever! We should definitely hang it on the wall!” Inspired by the moment, Mary decided to host an exhibition of their dream world, inviting parents and other classes to admire the beauty of imagination unleashed in her classroom.

I flew through the back door, excitedly announcing to my mom, “Mom, I’ve been nominated (提名) for the National Junior Honor Society!” My mother smiled with pride and replied, “I’m so proud of you, honey.”
Together in the family room, I began filling out the application for the Honor Society. It required proof of possessing all the necessary candidate characteristics. The following day, I submitted the paperwork to my advisor and didn’t give it much further thought.
Months passed, and one afternoon, as soon as I stepped off the bus, I rushed home with a letter from the school regarding the Honor Society. “Mom,” I said, handing her the letter with tears welling up in my eyes, “I didn’t make it. They didn’t choose me.” My mother hugged me and said, “Oh, honey, I’m sorry. There must have been some kind of mistake.”
That night at dinner, I said sadly, “It’s not fair.” My mother agreed and then shared a story about her high school friend who was intelligent and kind-hearted but never made the National Honor Society. Despite his hurt and anger, he became a world-renowned lung cancer specialist, saving lives every day.
I grasped my mom’s message: not being part of the Honor Society wouldn’t define my future, but it was certainly painful in the moment. However, seeing most of my friends get selected made those weeks especially tough for me. I opened up to my parents about how difficult it was and declared, “This shouldn’t happen to anyone else.” We brainstormed ways to improve the selection process and arranged a meeting with the school principal (校长) to present our ideas.

Passage 4

Kevin has always adored Halloween. This year, as always, he’d collected everything he needed for his “Halloween masterpiece.” One evening, he took a stroll down the block, noticing how everyone had decorated their houses with glowing pumpkins and ghosts. He was practically glowing with excitement.
But as he walked, something that caught his eye dimmed his smile. One house stood dark and empty. No pumpkins. No cobwebs. Just a bare, lonely porch (门廊). It was Mrs. Kimbly’s house. He told me about it when he got home.
“Mom, Mrs. Kimbly’s house doesn’t have any decorations. I think she needs help.” I told him maybe she didn’t want to decorate this year, but Kevin was certain. “Halloween is supposed to be fun. She shouldn’t have to spend it feeling bad.”
That was my Kevin. His heart was as big as the world. After I said it was okay to check on her, he gathered his decorations, even his favorite carved pumpkin, and went to her house. He decorated her front porch and was super excited until he heard her yell behind him.
“What are you doing here ” she asked.
“I…I just wanted to decorate your house,” he stammered.
“I don’t need any decorations!” she shouted and removed the decorations. “Now go away!”
When Kevin returned home that night, he looked completely defeated. He told me how unhappy Mrs. Kimbly looked. “Maybe she’s really lonely, honey,” I said gently. “Not everyone feels happy during the holidays.”
On Halloween night, he dressed up as a vampire but looked less excited than usual. As we made our way down the street, he couldn’t stop glancing toward Mrs. Kimbly’s house. It was still dark and empty, and I knew he was worried the other kids would see it as a target for tricks.
“Mom, I’m going to stay there,” he said suddenly. “I don’t want anyone to mess with her house.” And that’s just what he did. He took his candy bag and sat down on her porch steps. Whenever kids came up expecting candy, he’d give out some of his own. His candies dwindled quickly, but he stayed put, determined to protect her home.

It was the second day in the new office and Maya was still on her own. Except the man who had taken her induction (入职), there was no one else who had said a “hi” to the young woman.
Not only was it a new office, it was also a new city. While she had successfully climbed the corporate ladder (阶梯) for a better salary, she hadn’t really made any friends in the new city or office yet. Looking at the whole workplace from her seat at the end of the hall, Maya felt an urge to cry. But she was a grown woman and that was simply not an option.
She decided to eat her lunch, as lonely as it might feel. Her lunch box revealed fried rice with vegetables and an old memory hit her from the depth of her mind.
It was fifteen years ago and their sports period had just been canceled. The children had brought some snacks from the school canteen to the classroom and were chewing noisily. The class teacher came in with a young girl. “This is Tina, new to Delhi and your school. Make her feel welcome, you all,” she said.
While the students said a big “hi” to her in chorus, that was all they did. Tina was seated right next to Maya, something the latter (后者) didn’t like. So, she turned to Tina and said, “My best friend sits next to me. You have been given this seat because she is absent today. Once she is back, you have to find yourself a new seat, OK ” Tina sadly nodded her head, but Maya didn’t care. As the popular girl in class, Maya had a lot going for her—she had many friends, the teachers loved her and she was the queen of debating. Passage 4
(2025·浙江金华·一模)
Knock-knock-knock. “Hello ” I called timidly through my cousin Anita’s bedroom door. No answer. There’s no way she forgot I was moving in today, right I thought. “Anita It’s me, Norah! ” I called again.
I had only met my cousin once a couple of years ago when Anita and Aunt Sonam had flown to California to visit. Mom had hoped Anita and I would be friends. But all Anita wanted to talk about was soccer, which was practically a foreign language to me. Secretly, I had felt relieved when the visit was over.
Now, I was standing in my aunt’s tiny apartment in New York City, and there was still no answer from Anita. I knocked again, a little louder this time. Finally, Anita opened the door. She apologized, saying she had been listening to music. But instead of inviting me in, Anita frowned at my massive suitcase.
Behind her, I could see a blue beanbag chair crowded next to a bunk bed (上下铺). In my old room in California, I’d had a double bed all to myself, and my original artwork had covered all the walls. Anita’s walls, on the other hand, were covered with posters of the U. S. women’s soccer team. I didn’t see any free space to hang anything else.
“C-can I come in ” I asked, blushing. Anita nodded, but she barely moved. I had no choice but to squeeze by her into the room. I put my stuff against the wall and Anita started bouncing the soccer ball from her foot to her knee and back again. Suddenly, her foot kicked the ball at an odd angle, and it accidentally flew toward me. “Whoops! ” Anita called. “Think fast!”
But I was still taking in the surroundings, so the ball caught me off guard and bounced off my shoulder. Forcing a smile, I pretended it didn’t bother me. Unsure of what to do, I took out my sketchbook (素描本) and colored pencils and sat down. Just holding my sketchbook made me feel more at ease. I started sketching aimlessly while Anita went back to bounce her ball.
Suddenly, it dawned on me that I could draw Anita in action. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Passage 5
(2025江苏省南京市、盐城市高三上学期一模)
I had always been cautious around Max. He was the quiet kid in our grade, the one who sat at the back of the classroom with his hood (连衣帽) pulled low over his face. Max rarely spoke to anyone, and when he did, his words were rudely brief and often misunderstood. Rumors (谣言) about him spread like wildfire - some said he got into fights after school, others claimed he had once stolen a teacher’s wallet, l didn’t know if any of them was true, but l stayed away, just like everyone else.
Then one Friday morning, Max didn’t show up to class. A low voice of curiosity spread through the room, and soon enough, theories about his absence started flying. “He got suspended,” whispered a girl next to me. “I heard he struck a guy outside the library. ” I wasn’t surprised, and nodded in agreement.
Later that day, I found myself at the park, enjoying the first warm day of spring. That’s when I saw him - Max - sitting alone on the swings. His usual guarded expression was gone, and replaced by something I hadn’t expected: sadness. Against my better judgment, I walked over.
“Hey,” I said awkwardly.
Max looked up, surprised. “What do you want ”
“I…just saw you here and thought I’d say hi.”
He gave me a strange look but said nothing. I was about to walk away when I noticed a wrinkled piece of paper in his hand, “What’s that ” I asked.
For a moment, he hesitated. Then, with a shrug, he handed it to me. It was a hospital discharge form, and the name on it wasn’t his. It was his younger sister’s. I looked at him, confused.
“She’s been sick for months,” Max explained, his voice barely heard. “Yesterday was bad. My mom couldn’t leave work, so I stayed at the hospital and looked after her all night. ”
It hit me then how wrong we had all been about Max. The tough outward appearance, the distance - he wasn’t trying to push people away. He was carrying a weight none of us understood.

Passage 6
(2025·安徽淮北市和淮南市高三上学期第一次质量检测)
When Sabrina heard her dad Pete Parker, a coal miner, parking his van (货车) in the garage, she kept switching channels on the TV, hoping he wouldn’t ask her about her upcoming graduation that was scheduled in two days. She feared her dad would ruin her graduation for looking “dirty” and smelling of coal and sweat.
“Hey, sweetheart! Look what I got for you, ” Pete said as he entered, sounding happy. Then he left two packages on the table.
Sabrina was surprised and quickly unwrapped one box and found a beautiful dress inside. She loved it very much. Then she opened the other box and saw a new suit in it.
“Thanks for the dress, dad. But for whom is this suit ”
“It’s for me, honey! I have to look amazing. . . it’s your graduation, after all! ”
Sabrina bit her lips in frustration and said, “Dad, I don’t want you to come. All my friends and their parents will be attending. I don’t want them to laugh at me after seeing you, alright ”
Sabrina’s words hit Pete like a bag of bricks. He was so hurt because he was looking forward to attending the event. However, he knew Sabrina was too young to understand his love for her. “She’s still a little girl! ” he comforted his broken heart and decided to still go to the graduation party with a surprise.
On the day of the graduation, Pete arrived and sat in the seating area for the parents. When his daughter’s name was announced, Pete ran up to the front with his phone and started filming as Sabrina received her diploma. Sabrina looked so pretty, and Pete was so proud she was graduating.
Suddenly, Sabrina heard the host say, “Mr. Parker, can we please have you on stage. ” Sabrina was confused and didn’t understand what was going on as she saw Pete walking over to the platform.

Passage 7
(2025·福建厦门·高中毕业班第一次质量检测)
Mary was very happy when she got her dream part-time job at the local bookshop. It was right next to her school, so she could walk there after classes. Her boss, Mr. Thompson, was very nice and trusted her with lots of important tasks from the beginning.
One afternoon, Mr. Thompson gave Mary and her classmate Alex a special task. He wanted them to make a plan to promote a new book series all written by teenagers. “This series is unique because it reflects the voices of young authors,” Mr. Thompson explained. “I’m counting on you two to come up with something that will truly connect with the young readers. You’ll have to finalize your plan before Friday since the school Reading Festival is just around the corner.”
Mary was very excited and happy to help. She nodded eagerly. “Absolutely, Mr. Thompson! I can’t wait to get started.” She was so thrilled that she couldn’t stop smiling on her way home. Finally, there was a chance to show everyone what she could do.
But working with Alex wasn’t going to be easy. Alex was known for being bossy and having strong opinions. When Mary met up with him at the library to discuss their project, she knew it would be tricky. “I’ve worked on similar projects before, and simple booths (展位) in the school courtyard always work, and we could hand out flyers,” Alex said, without even looking at Mary.
Mary frowned (皱眉头) as she thought about Alex’s idea. She knew that booths worked well, but she felt they could do something more exciting to catch the attention of their classmates. The new book series deserved a special promotion. “If we just follow the same old methods, how will this book series stand out ” Mary argued. “What if we have a book reading session with some authors Or... ”
Alex, however, didn’t seem interested in exploring new ideas. He rolled his eyes at Mary’s suggestions for creativity, arguing that they didn’t have the time or resources to try new things. He believed the usual methods would work best.

Passage 8
(2025河南省焦作市博爱县第一中学高三上学期一模)
Some of my earliest memories of music were the days when I played violin together with my grandpa, whose favorite song was “Big Eyed Rabbit”. “As long as you’ve got music, you’ve got good company,” my grandfather always said.
However, I didn’t have either in my life these days. Having left my hometown where my family and friends were, I was in an up-hill struggle to earn money from temporary jobs as I battled to get auditions(试听) for my acting career in New York. Trapped in self-doubt, I felt alone and abandoned.
“Would I ever find happiness again ” I thought while visiting the park near where I lived. Suddenly, I heard something unexpected—a sound that winded its way here. Somewhere nearby, an orchestra (管弦乐队) was practising. I followed the sounds to a red-roofed building. Inside, the musicians had started to practice, stopping and starting, trying again, laughing at some joke the conductor had made. I approached the director during a break to admire the music. “This is a community orchestra,” he said, “you’re welcome to join. All you need is an instrument.” If only I could afford to buy one! “I’ll keep that in mind,” I said to the director, and walked back home.
The next day the director told me they would have a music show at the city centre and invited me to go with them to get familiar with everything in the orchestra. I arrived early that day and decided to wander around. As I past a bookstore, a sign made me stop short: Schumacher Violin Maker. I stepped inside. Stringed instruments hung from the ceiling. At the very corner lay an old violin, which drew my attention. It reminded me of my grandfather’s. An older man in a brown coat sat at a worktable, looking carefully over the top of his glasses as he adjusted the bridge on a violin.
“It’s funny I noticed your shop today,” I said and told him my story.
“So, you need a violin,” he said when I’d finished, raising a bushy eyebrow.
“Do you happen to rent them ”

Passage 9
(2025·湖南株洲高三教学质量统一检测(一模))
Lily complained as she struggled to remove a mark on her dream California Spirit T-shirt. Lily was not feeling any sort of California Spirit at all. Moreover, she was not in high spirits at all. Her annoying twin sister, Polly, had completely ruined her nice weekend.
Maybe Lily had pushed Polly unintentionally, causing her to spill (洒出) juice everywhere onto the floor, and mom had blamed Polly without letting her explain. Polly, in a stormy mood, spilled a cup of coffee onto Lily, ruining the new T-shirt. Polly was so angry that she avoided Lily all through the weekend, not feeling like responding to Lily.
As Lily thought about all this, she couldn’t help feeling a bit sorrowful, remembering their joyful childhood when she and her sister helped each other and explored the unknown world around them together. She sighed and gave up trying to clean her shirt. Perhaps it was time to stop having a world war with her sister.
So, Lily changed into a clean T-shirt, set the dirty one aside, took a deep breath and knocked on her sister’s door. “What ” A mad shout came in from the room. Lily hesitantly entered the room. “I’m not Mom.” Polly looked confused for a second wondering why her sister was there. “Since when did you learn to knock ”
Lily ignored her sister’s comment, sat down heavily on the bed, and asked, “Do you want to conquer (征服) the world ” She didn’t actually mean to conquer the world, but when they were small, they liked to challenge themselves to climb a pretty high rock at the back of their house inside a small wood The sisters hadn’t actually managed to do that yet, and they gave up trying after a while since it looked a bit stupid for teenagers to climb a rock. After that, they basically forgot about the whole thing.

Passage 10
(2025·广东·三校高三下学期2月第一次模拟考试一模)
In the year when her parents determined to go their separate ways, Alice initiated the allocation of a considerable span of her time to the Polka Café, a venue that surfaced as the exclusive location where she could truly immerse herself in rumination, and her mother seemed to manifest no dissent regarding her spending the bulk of the summer there.
Antecedent to the commencement of the summer season, two momentous occurrences had materialized. The primary occurrence, without doubt, was the egress of her father from their domestic abode, and the secondary one was the disintegration of her amicable bond with Sarah. Alice was incapable of precisely identifying how their relationship had degenerated to such a deplorable state. They had been involved in a vehement quarrel at school shortly subsequent to her parents’ public announcement of their irrevocable decision to part.
On every occasion when her friends questioned the non - appearance of her father, who no longer served as her escort to school each morning, Alice would unfailingly proffer the untruth, “My father is preoccupied with business engagements elsewhere.” She discontinued extending invitations to them for recreational gatherings at her residence and fabricated a plethora of pretexts to evade social interaction with any other individuals. “I am occupied with alternative arrangements,” she would communicate to Sarah.
On a particular day, as they were proceeding homeward from school, Sarah accosted Alice in a somewhat irritated intonation, “Alice, what is the underlying issue Why are you refraining from engaging in dialogue with me ” Alice simulated auditory impairment and persisted in her forward movement, entertaining no inclination to deliberate on the matter with Sarah at that juncture, or with anyone else for that matter.
“I am speaking with utter earnestness, Alice. My mother has divulged the pertinent details to me,” Sarah further stated. “I am cognizant of the situation unfolding with your parents.” This disclosure caused Alice to come to an abrupt standstill. In reality, their habitation was in a compact community where confidential matters were notoriously short – lived, yet Alice had cherished a feeble aspiration that the news would remain under wraps for a sufficient duration to enable her to ascertain the appropriate moment to broach the subject herself. She was overcome with feelings of mortification and emotional injury, yearning to reveal the information to Sarah in accordance with her own volition.
Consumed by a surge of fury, Alice launched a verbal assault. “How can you have the audacity to assert that you possess any knowledge!” she vehemently exclaimed. “You are an exceedingly despicable friend. I harbor no desire to engage in any form of verbal exchange with you ever again!”

Passage 11
(2025广东省佛山市三校高三1月第一次模拟考试)
Once upon a time, in an old Italian town, lived a little girl named Piccola. She was an only child, sharing her home with her hardworking mother, who worked as a laundress and cleaner until the late hours of the night.
Her house had a tiny garden, surrounded by a stone wall. She would sit out there and play with a ragged doll. Through a narrow crack (裂缝) in the stone wall, Piccola’s curious gaze often wandered to a neighboring garden filled with laughter, beautiful colors, and the joyful play of three children. Piccola watched in wonder as they danced, sang and played with their brightly colored toys. From that day on, she secretly admired them from afar, but was too shy to talk to them.
