After a busy morning, lunch can provide the energy you need, but sometimes it also makes you feel sleepy at your desk.
It’s normal to feel tired after lunch. This is because when humans eat, most of our blood goes to the digestive organs (消化器官) to process the food. It’s not a big deal, but feeling tired can make it hard to focus on the rest of your studies. Here’s why, and how to improve the situation.
A common reason for feeling tired after a meal is eating too much. Some people overeat instead of stopping when they feel full. Not eating breakfast can also lead to overeating later in the day. People who feel very tired after a meal can consider slowing down their eating and eating less.
If you don’t get enough sleep, your body will increase production of ghrelin, which tells your brain it’s time to “feed you”. Not getting enough rest can also have a bad influence on your decision-making skills and a brain area that controls food intake (摄入), making it harder for you to turn down delicious foods. So make sure you sleep for eight to ten hours every night.
3. Which is TRUE according to Paragraph 2 and 3
A. You could avoid being tired by not eating breakfast.
B. Some people may not stop eating when they are full.
C Feeling tired after having lunch is rather uncommon.
4. Which of the following food may not make people tired
A. B. C.
5. What does the underlined word “ghrelin” mean in Paragraph 4
A. 睡眠素 B. 消瘦素 C. 饥饿素
6. According to the passage, which could be the best title
A. Tired after Eating B. Tired after Working C. Tired after Sleeping
C
On a boat near Costa Rica (哥斯达黎加), a team of biologist is helping a turtle, which is having trouble breathing. And the team discovers why—there is something inside its nose. A scientist tries to extract (取出) the object, but the turtle cries in pain. Finally, after eight minutes, a long object is pulled out: It is a 10-centimeter plastic straw.
The video of the turtle’s rescue (救援) has been posted on YouTube. It has attracted tons of attention to the growing problem: The world’s seas are full of plastic. Since 2000, the plastic production has been increased all around the world, but we only recycle less than one-fifth of it. A lot of this plastic waste ends up in the ocean. Most of this plastic will never biodegrade (生物降解).
This ocean plastic hurts millions of sea animals every year. Some fish eat plastic because it is covered with sea plants, and it looks and smells like food. “In some cases, eating sharped pieces of plastic can seriously hurt sea animals and even cause death,” says biologist Matthew Savoca.
Plastic is useful to people because it is strong and lasts a long time—but this is bad for sea animals who eat or get stuck in it. According to Savoca, “Single-use” plastics are the worst. These items are used only once before we throw them away. Such as straws, water bottles, and plastic bags. About 700 sea species have been caught in or have eaten this kind of plastic. Luckily, the turtle was sent back into the ocean.
How will plastic affect sea animals in the future “I think we’ll know the answers in 5 to 10 years’ time,” says Debra Lee Magadini from Columbia University. But by then, another 25 million tons of plastic will already be in the ocean.
7. How does the writer introduce the topic
A. By showing writer’s opinions. B. By giving an example. C. By listing numbers.
8. The second paragraph is mainly about ______.
A. how many people have watched the rescue
B. how long people have used plastic products
C. how serious the plastic pollution is in the ocean
9. Why are the seas full of plastic waste
A. Because sea animals consume (消耗) plastic.
B. Because more plastic is produced than recycled.
C. Because plastic can be biodegraded in the sea quickly.
10. What can we know from the text
A. “Single-use” is people’s favorite.
B. Plastic waste can even cause death to sea animals.
C. The ocean’s plastic problem will be solved in a decade.

Watching wild animals makes us pleased, cheers us up, and sometimes even makes us frightened (害怕的). ___11___ Wild geese, for example, teach a very good lesson about teamwork.
In fall, Canada’s wild geese fly south to get away from Canada’s cold winter weather. They lift off in no order. Yet very quickly they form a “V” shape, with one bird leading the flock (鸟群). Scientists have discovered that wild geese flying in a “V” shape can help them to save energy. In this way, they can fly 70 percent farther without rest than those flying alone.
What can humans learn from this
____12____ We have found that wild geese make sound in flight to encourage those that have fallen behind to keep up with the speed. Team members should communicate with each other while working towards a common goal.
Take turns. The wild goose out in front has the hardest job as it has to break up the air currents (气流). When it gets tired, it moves behind, and another goose moves to the front. By sharing the role, the flock can travel very far. Teams can get advantages from the same idea. ____13____
Set a good example. When wild geese are on the ground, if something frightens the leader, it might fly off. So does the flock. But if the leader stays calm, the flock will do the same. ___14___ When leading, we must remember that our actions and feelings will be passed on to our followers.
Whether it is in our personal lives or our work, we need other people. ___15___ If we face the difficulties alone, the risks are greater. Like wild geese, when we work together, our burdens (负担) are lighter.
A. Be an encourager.
B. We are encouraged by their energy.
C. But do you know they can teach us
D. Wild geese and people usually learn from their leaders.
E. Based on their experience and skills, people can take turns sharing the leadership role.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Inner painting, a kind of traditional Chinese art, is marked as a national-level intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产). Inner painting artists traditionally create works on the inner surface of the glass bottle by using special fine brushes that can enter the tiny bottles. It has a long history and is mainly divided into four major schools: Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, and Guangdong.
When we look at the inner painting of an object, we experience an indescribable beauty. Patterns on the painting often symbolize people’s wishes for good luck and a happy life. The most marketable ones are landscapes (风景), followed by flowers and birds.
The production of inner painting is difficult as it requires high precision (精确). Besides, the process of painting is totally reversed (反向的). During painting, there is no room for corrections. And a shaky hand leads to mistakes. Only those skilled and confident in their abilities can paint well. Most artists need to learn inner painting for years before creating great and fine pieces. Even if they already know how to paint, they need to practice drawing lines from the beginning when they start inner painting.
Inner painting has its advantages due to its uniqueness (独特性), but it also faces challenges such as limited market needs, and a shortage of learners and talented artists to drive its development.
Luckily, today’s artists are trying to make inner painting more included in our lives. It is now used on everyday objects, like tea sets and folding screens. One of the artists invented a new type of brush, which improved the speed of drawing. Some young artists are making use of social media to help more people learn about inner painting skills.
Looking ahead to the future, the inner painting artists wish the art to be more available to the public, and win high market acceptance. They also hope inner painting courses can be offered at school for young people to take.

How to Pass Down Chinese Culture
Nowadays, more and more Chinese young people are interested in Chinese culture. Of all the forms of Chinese culture, I like Chinese paper cutting and the Great Wall best.
Chinese paper cutting has a history of over 1, 000 years. Using a pair of scissors, people cut red paper into different kinds of Chinese characters and animals. People regard them as a symbol of good luck, health and wealth.
The Great Wall is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Made of stone, brick, and other materials, it took many years to construct. Today, it is a symbol of China’s history and attracts millions of visitors every year.
Through passing down Chinese culture, we can not only deepen our understanding of Chinese culture, but also gain a practical skill and a sense of beauty.
In order to pass down Chinese culture, we should be strict with oneself both in study and behavior. And in our spare time, we should learn about Chinese culture.
