J. K. Howling, author of the Harry Potter book series, began writing at age 6. In her biography, she well remembers her good friend, Sean, whom she met in secondary school, helped build her confidence in becoming a very good writer. "He was the first person to know my serious dream to be a writer. He was also the only person who thought I was certain to be a success at it, which meant much more to me."
Rowli ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ng met many difficulties in her writing, especially fantasy stories. It wasn't until 1990 that she first got the idea about Harry Potter. As she recalls, it was on a long train journey from London to Manchester that the idea of Harry Potter simply fell into my head. I didn't have a pen with me, and I was too shy to ask anybody if I could borrow one. I think, now, that this was probably a good thing, because I simply sat and thought, for four (delayed train) hours, and all the details appear in my brain, and this thin, black-haired, glasses-wearing boy who didn't know he was a wizard became more and more real to me."
That same ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )year, her mother passed away after a ten-year illness, which deeply affected her writing. She went on to marry and had a daughter, but separated from her husband shortly afterwards.
During this ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )time, Rowling suffered from depression. She, out of work, completed her first novel in the cafes, where she could get her daughter to fall asleep. After being refused by 12 publishing houses, the first Harry Potter novel was sold to a small British publishing house.

The Teen G ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )irl's Gotta-Have-It Guide to Money, Jessica Blatt with Variny Paladino, 2008, ISBN: 9780823017270. This book is a basic introduction to the world of money for teens: how to get it, save it and spend it.
Before yo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )u can spend money on clothes or an MP3 player, you need some money coming in, so a job is a requirement. Apply at a favorite store at the mall, or the local supermarket, or advertise in your neighborhood as a dog walker. This is the time to put on your thinking cap and get creative. If you are underage, get the approval of your parents first.
Now that y ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ou have a steady income, what do you do with it The authors suggest creating four “pots”. Put 30 percent toward everyday expenses, another 30 percent toward short-term savings and the other 30 percent toward long-term savings. Consider giving the last percent to charity.
How do yo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )u get the most out of each dollar spent Don't be afraid to shop at second-hand or thrift stores. Many times generic cosmetics have the exact same ingredients as the brand-name cosmetics; you are paying for the marketing and fancy packaging. Do your own nails. Read the details of your cell-phone plan and know exactly what you are paying for. Bottle your own water instead of paying for it, and think about hosting a DVD night with your friends instead of going to the movies.
Savi ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ng accounts are an easy and safe way of making your money grow. For those who are more daring, perhaps investing in the stock market is the way to go. The potential payoff is greater, but so is the risk of losing your money.
There ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) are alternatives to “retail therapy”, the pick-me-up that comes from spending money. Hold a clothing swap, exercise, discover the things that your library has for free or become a volunteer at an organization that does work that you care about.
The auth ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ors do a wonderful job at painlessly taking the reader through the world of money. There are colors and graphics throughout, so it is really easy to read. Boys should not be put off by the title, this book is equally recommended for you, too.

Saying "no ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )" to your kid is never easy. "All the other kids are doing it. Why can't I " your kid may complain angrily. How can you clearly explain that without being treated as a "bad guy"
When sayi ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ng "no" to your kid, keep in mind that an explanation is always necessary, and your answer should match your behavior as well. When your teenager asks why he can't go to the party, tell him the truth. "When I was your age, I went to a party where there was a lot of drinking, but I told my parents there was no alcohol(酒) there." Experience can make sure your kids DO understand, as long as you let them know about the bad results: "I came home drunk and threw up all night, which almost turned my stomach. It really wasn't worth it." For younger kids, make sure your explanation is within the realm(范围) of their understanding. Kids who have not yet gone to school usually don't have thinking skills yet, so an answer of "because you might get hurt" will be enough until they are old enough to understand.
For older k ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ids, always listen to their side of the disagreement. Listening means keeping eye contact, sitting close, giving positive(积极的) facial expressions, and keeping quiet while kids say what they want to say. Let them know why you are saying "no" and what they may be able to do to get a "yes" from you next time.Treating them with respect teaches them to respect you in turn.
To make ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )sure you are not seen as simply a "bad guy", you must see to it that your relationship with your kid is open and you're helpful. Few parents nowadays spend actual time with their children, which causes a lot of teenagers loneliness and rebellion(叛逆)! Encourage your kids by spending much time with them. Encourage them not to upset themselves, but lighten up. Have family fun, laugh, and act in a "silly" way. By being both their friend and their parent, you can get along well with your kids and they'll feel that your relationship is based on trust and honesty, not just "yes" and "no".
117. If you ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )are not good at saying "no" to your kid, he may .
A. think he can achieve nothing
B. think you are not a good parent
C. feel lonely for a long time
D. never listen to you again
118. The underlined ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )part "threw up" in Paragraph 2 probably means " ".
A. felt satisfied B. got excited
C. felt sick D. got worried
119. While sayin ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )g "no" to older kids, parents should .
A. tolerate their different opinions
B. point out their weaknesses
C. teach them how to follow parents' orders
D. tell them they may get hurt
120. In which part of a newspaper can we read the above text
