Feeling good and having humor in our lives can do wonders for our position and productivity, which means that there is definitely a place for some humor on the job. Having a smiling face will help your coworkers and supervisors feel better being around you, and you may well end up reaping the rewards by laughing more in the workplace. But you need to know how to apply humor in your work environment.
One of the main rules with humor in the workplace is to avoid argument when you are joking. Stay well away from joking about political affairs, race and religion. Never make fun of other people within your organization, as you are trying to win friends with the people you work with, and not set against them. If you can't help yourself, please be extremely careful.
Making jokes about the ups and downs of your trade is a safe way to add wit(机智风趣) to the place of work. You will have the benefit of knowing precisely what your coworkers have to face each and every day, and it's much better as it helps to let go of tensions and lower stress levels by getting them to chuckle about the situations they come across frequently.
The very best time for some humor is when you are not working, but still in the region of the people you work with, such as a coffee or lunch break. You can also make an effort to be funny on the job, but when you are working, it's a good idea to use jokes much more discreetly than you would normally do.
In general, humor in the workplace can flex your creative muscles and be a great help to your job.
96. What is a proper topic for you to joke about at work?
A. A funny political leader.
B. Another person's religious belief.
C. A person in your group.
D. A mistake you made at work.
97. What can we infer from the second paragraph?
A. Being humorous at work can win you friends.
B. We should always have humor at work.
C. We should be careful when making jokes at work.
D. We should never joke about a person at work.
98. The underlined word "discreetly" in the fourth paragraph probably means ?.
A. carefully B. randomly C. humorously D. secretly
99. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The benefits of having humor.
B. How to be a humorous person.
C. Good manners in the workplace.
D. How to make jokes at work.

Laughter Yoga(瑜伽) is a unique technique invented by Dr Kataria, a doctor from India, by which you can learn to “Laugh for No Reason”. You don't even need a sense of humor, no funny jokes or comedy programs—just a willingness to laugh—and in the present climate everyone needs to laugh more.
Laughter Yoga is a combination of Laughter Exercises and Yogic Breathing, so that you increase the amount of oxygen in your body while being playful, resulting in you feeling healthier, energetic and alive. This actually changes the physical conditions of your body so that you start to feel happier.
Laughter Yoga is generally done in groups although it can be practiced alone. When you make eye contact with someone and you're both willing to laugh, the laughter is increased. However, we do say that you can “Fake(假装) it, fake it till you make it” because the body doesn't know the difference between fake and true laughter; as long as you're willing to laugh you'll experience the same health benefits.
Laughter Yoga started in a park in Mumbai in 1995 with just 5 participants, and now there're over 6,000 laughter clubs in 60 different countries—showing the willingness of the world to laugh together.
In the UK, Julie was one of the first people to train as a Laughter Leader with Dr Kataria in June 2002. In 2006 she was awarded Laughter Ambassador for her selfless service to promote Laughter Yoga.
“Yoga has been part of my life for 30 years but 7 years ago my life changed when I discovered Laughter Yoga. I believe laughter and yoga are both good for your health,” says Julie.

102. The purpose of the passage is to ?.
A. persuade people to take up Laughter Yoga
B. tell people how to practise Laughter Yoga

C
How funny somebody finds a certain incident depends on age, personal experience, level of education and geographical location. Thus humor is something that is not always the same in another country. What somebody from one area finds interesting may not be amusing at all to somebody from another location. Whether or not someone gets humor is determined by their understanding, and influenced by their culture.
Let's take the example of Britain and America. It is often argued that one of the most common differences between the British and American sense of humor is that Americans don't understand irony(讽刺).
One of the major differences seems to be how often both nations use irony. The British use irony on a daily basis, while it is not the foundation of American humor. When Americans use irony they usually say that they are “only joking”. They feel the need to make a joke more obvious than the British do.
The American sense of humor is generally more direct than that in Britain. Their jokes are more obvious and forward, a bit like Americans themselves. British jokes, on the other hand, are more indirect. There is usually a hidden meaning. This comes from the different cultures between the two countries.
Certain American comedies have got huge success in Britain and some British comedies are also popular with Americans. Although there are differences between both comic(喜剧的) styles, there is still an understanding of the other sense of humor. Both the British and American versions(译本) of the comedy The Office are hugely successful on both sides of the Atlantic. Both shows have their own cultural differences, yet they portray a lifestyle which both Americans and the British can understand.
103. What's the topic of the passage?
A. The sense of humor in American and British comedies.
B. The importance of humor in improving understanding.
C. The differences between British and American humor.
D. Humor and jokes in Britain and America.
104. The example of Britain and America is used to show ?.
A. the British have the habit of using irony to hide their real feelings
B. the Americans tend to be more satisfied with their life than the British
C. people in different countries have different ways to express their feelings
D. people using the same language don't necessarily share the same sense of humor
105. According to the author, the differences between British and American jokes ?.
A. have resulted from cultural differences
B. have influences on the English language
C. clearly show their different attitudes towards life
D. may cause misunderstanding between the two countries
106. We can learn from the last paragraph that ?.
A. cultural differences between America and Britain will gradually disappear
B. American and British comedies have more or less the same styles in using humor
C. Americans and the British understand each other well despite the different sense of humor
D. cultures have little effects on people's communication if they share the same language
D
I often teach about happiness and what has become clear is this: There are some qualities always unhappy people have. Here are some of them.
Happy people know life can be hard and tend to live through hard times. They take responsibility for how they got themselves into a mess, and focus on getting themselves out of it as soon as possible. Unhappy people see themselves as victims of life and stay stuck in the "look what happened to me" attitude instead of finding a way through and out to the other side.
Most happy people believe in the good in people instead of thinking everyone is out to get them. Generally open and friendly towards people they meet, happy people foster(培养) a sense of community around themselves and meet new people with all open heart. Unhappy people are distrustful of most people they meet and don't think strangers can be trusted. Unfortunately, this behavior slowly closes all chances of meeting new friends.
Unhappy people believe someone else's good fortune steals from their own. They believe there's not enough goodness to go around and always compare others' against theirs. This leads to jealousy(嫉妒). Happy people know that others' good luck and circumstance are just signs of what they also can achieve if they try hard enough. They believe in unlimited possibilities and don't get stuck in thinking one person's good fortune limits their possible outcome in life.
There's only so much space between the two ears. Unhappy people fill that space with constant worry and fear. Happy people experience fear and worry too, but make an important difference between feeling it and living with it. When fear or worry crosses a happy person's mind, they'll ask themselves if there's an action they can take to prevent their fear or worry from happening and they take it. If not, they realize they're spinning in fear and they lay it down.
107. Paragraph 2 mainly shows that unhappy people tend to ?.
A. focus on what they really want
B. get worried about what will happen
C. stay focused on the past misfortunes
D. find a way to live through hard times
108. According to paragraph 3 and 4, unhappy people ?.
A. like making some new friends
B. hate seeing others with good fortune
C. are more likely to be cheated by strangers
D. believe they can get good luck by working hard
109. What is implied about happy people?
A. They don't think life is hard.
B. They hardly ever fear anything.
C. They try to get out of their fear or worries.
D. They don't believe in every people they meet.
110. How is the text mainly developed?
A. By making comparisons. B. By giving examples.
C. By showing detailed data. D. By proving some theories.

M: Well, first, you have to learn to laugh. You rarely laugh, you know. Second, if you hear other people laughing, just ask them why they' re laughing. They'll tell you what' s so funny, and you can figure out what makes other people laugh. Third, just spend lots of time with fun people, people who like to play.
W: That' s really great advice - I will definitely try all that.
M: Oh, and of course, always look for humor in a bad situation.
(Text 9)
This morning, I was walking home down Seventh Avenue. As I was getting close to the supermarket, I saw a small crowd around an elderly woman. The woman was lying face down on the sidewalk. There was blood under her knees. I stopped and asked if I could help out. A young girl was calling 911; a young man told me the elderly woman had just tripped on the sidewalk and fallen onto the ground face down. I told the woman I was certified in first aid and asked if I could help her. Then I sent someone to the supermarket for a first-aid kit.
The woman was 80 years old and she was alone. People brought out ice packs from the gym nearby, water and paper towels from the supermarket. I put on the gloves from the first-aid kit, and cleaned her up a bit. Two doctors happened to be passing by and they stopped to help. We helped her sit up and then moved her to a bench. Finally, after ten minutes the ambulance arrived. She was taken to hospital. I picked up my bags and walked home, feeling very happy that I could help.
(Text 10)
M: Mrs. Smith, thanks very much for coming. I' d just like to go over some of the things that you told the police at the bank.
W:All right.
M: First, could you describe the man who robbed the bank? Anything at all that you can remember would be extremely helpful.
W: Well, just, I can only remember basically what I said before.
M: That' s all right.
W: The man was tall, about six feet, and he had dark hair, and he had a moustache.
M: Very good. All right, did he have any other obvious marks?
W: Um, no, none that I can remember.
M: Do you remember how old he was by any chance?
W: Well, I guess around 30, maybe younger.
M: Mm, all right. Do you remember anything about what he was wearing?
W: Yes, yes, he had on a dark sweater.
M: OK. Um, anything else that strikes you at the moment?
W: I remember he was wearing a light shirt under the sweater. Yes, yes.
M: All right. Mrs. Smith, I really appreciate what you' ve been through today. I' m just going to ask you to look at some photographs before you leave if you don' t mind. It won' t take very long. Can you do that for
me?
W: Oh, of course.
M: Would you like to step this way with me, please?
W: OK, sure.
M: Thank you.
