七、阅读理解(共13小题;共26分)
A
Last week I visited one of my old neighborhoods in Washington DC. I had not been there for twenty years and as I walked along the street, my mind was flooded by memories of the past. I saw the old apartment building where I had lived and the playground where I had played. As I viewed these once familiar surroundings, images of myself as a child there came to mind. However, what I saw and what I remembered were not the same. I sadly realized that the best memories are those left untouched.
My old apartment building, as I remember, was bright and alive. It was more than just a place to live. It was a movie house, a space station, or whatever my young mind could imagine. I would steal away with my friends and play in the basement. This was always exciting because it was so cool and dark, and there were so many things there to hide among. There was a small river in the back of the building. We would go there to lie in the shade of trees and enjoy ourselves.
However, what I saw was completely different. The apartment building was now in disrepair. What was once more than a place to live looked hardly worth living in. The windows were all broken. The once clean walls were covered with dirty marks. The river was hardly recognizable. The water was polluted and the trees and flowers were all dead. The once sweet-smelling river now smelled terrible. It was really heartbreaking to see all this.
I do not regret having seen my old neighborhood. However, I do not think my innocent childhood memories can ever be the same. I suppose it is true when they say, "You can never go home again."

77. How did the writer feel when he visited his old neighborhood in Washington DC
A. Quite excited. B. Very sad.
C. Very regretful. D. Greatly surprised.

A. a visit to one's hometown will bring back many sad memories
B. one should never revisit his hometown after many years of absence
C. one will never find his hometown the same as it was in his childhood memory
D. a visit to one's hometown will bring back one's pleasant memories of home

In China most people these days know what it means to have an "English teacher", since almost all pupils study English from their third year. In primary school the first English teacher will usually be a young and lovely lady. But my first English teacher is no other than my father. Looking back, I can see that, when I was only a little girl, he created an English environment by providing me with flashcards(识字卡), fun Englishlanguage toys and even dolls which can sing English songs! My interest in English had certainly been awakened when I began to learn English at school. Just imagine, he went a step further and asked me to learn New Concept English by myself! I was confused and even angry. I could not understand why a father could be so strict with his little girl. All the same, he never gave up and he gently insisted that I follow through with his idea. At first, I read stories with tears and I actually hated them because they were too difficult for me. In the end, I came to love the funny stories and, to be honest, my father was always there with a helping hand. I am sure that my English would never have got so far without his support. And that's why my father is not only my first English teacher but also my lifelong teacher. He is the one who aroused my interest, gave me confidence and offered me much needed help.

A girl became a volunteer in the activities of Deathbed Care, which meant visiting and taking care of a patient suffering from an incurable disease with days numbered.
The girl was assigned to look after an old man suffering from cancer whose children lived abroad. Their living conditions were not satisfactory while the old man had a lot of savings. She was expected to comfort him and keep up his spirits.
Every Saturday the girl came on time to keep him company, telling him stories. When he was having an intravenous drip (静脉滴注), she would help massage his arms. The doctor found the patient much improved mentally. The old man began to involve himself actively in the medical treatment and he seldom shouted at others.
But something that happened made the doctor uneasy and puzzled. Each time the girl left, the old man would give her some money. The doctor did nothing to interfere, unwilling to offend the old man. A month later the old man showed evident signs of decline after suffering coma(昏迷) a few times.
When rescued from the latest coma, the old man told the doctor his last wish, "I have deep sympathy for the girl. Will you be kind enough to help her finish her studies "
But the doctor knew that her family was well off and she had no difficulty pursuing her studies. Sometimes she even came to the hospital in her father's car.
When the girl came at the weekend after the death of the old man, the doctor told her the bad news. She was very sad and burst into tears. Then she handed $500 to the doctor, saying, "The old man had all along thought I came to do the job because of poverty. He gave me money so that I could continue my schooling." Now he got the answer to the puzzle. In the last period of his life, the old man found it a real pleasure to be able to help a girl badly in need.
82. If you're a volunteer in the activities of Deathbed Care, what kind of people do you have to attend to
A. Patients with a lot of money.

D. Patients living alone.

84. What is the real reason resulting in the old man's mental improvement
A. The girl's love and great care.
B. The pleasure of helping people in need.
C. The doctor's medical treatment
D. His children's progress in life.

My House
My mother moved a lot when she was growing up on account of Grandpa being in the army.
She hated having to adjust to new schools and make new friends. That's why I thought she was joking when she put forward the idea of moving. But she was completely serious. “For just the two of us,” my mother said, “an apartment in the city will suit our needs much better.” Personally, I think she's lost her mind. I guess I can understand why she would want to move, but what about me and what this house means to me
I suppose if you looked at my house, you might think it was just another country house. But to me it is anything but standard. I moved into this house with my parents ten years ago. I can still remember that first day like it was yesterday. The first thing I noticed was the big front yard. To me it seemed like an ocean of grass—I couldn't wait to dive in. The backyard was full of gnarled(扭曲的, 粗糙的) and scary trees that talk on windy nights. But I grew to like them and the shadows they cast in my room. My father and I even built a small tree house, where I often go to remember all the wonderful times we had before Father's death.
This house is special—maybe only to me—but special nevertheless. It's the little seemingly insignificant things that make this house so special to me: the ice-cold tile floors that make me tremble on midnight snack runs; the smell of my father's pipe that still exists; the towering bookcases of my mother; the view outside my bedroom window.
This house holds too many memories, memories which would be lost if we gave it up.
85. Why did the author's mother decide to move
A. Because she hated the countryside.
B. Because Grandpa was on constant move.
C. Because Dad's death made her lose her mind.
D. Because she thought a city flat more fit for them.
86. What impressed the author when she first moved into the house
A. The tree house. B. The big trees.
C. The cold floors. D. The green grass.
87. How did the author let us feel that the house was special to her
A. By arguing whether the house was standard.
B. By explaining why the house suited their needs.
C. By describing the small things related to her house.
D. By comparing the differences between country and city life.
88. My mother moved a lot when she was growing up because of .
A. Grandpa being in the army B. their family's liking moving
C. the life's need D. Mother's work

Great changes have been taken place in the way people communicate with each other from a long distance. In the past people write letters to exchange informations at first and late they could talk with each other in the fixed telephone. Now more and more people use our own mobile phones to communicate and instead of writing on the paper, they e-mail to each other on the computer. As result, people find it quicker and easier to communicate, and at the same time some people feel that they become poor in writing, and the relationship between each other becomes not so closely as before.

M: I'm living in a small village in the country. My wife and I run a
village shop. We have a very peaceful life. "Boring," some
might say. But we love it. We know all the people in the
village. They have plenty of time to stop and chat. I have
plenty of time for my hobbies too-gardening, fishing,
walking in the countryside. I love the outdoor life. It wasn't
always like this though. I used to have a really stressful job,
working so late in the office every evening. I often brought
work home at weekends. The advertising world is very
competitive. And when I look back, I can't imagine how I
stood it. I had no private life at all, and no time for the really
important things in life. Because of the pressure of the job,
I used to smoke and drink too much. The crisis came
when my wife planned to leave me. She complained that she
never saw me and I had no time for family life. This made me
realize what is really important to me. I talked things
through with her and decided to get back together and
started a new and better life together. I gave up tobacco and
alcohol and searched for new hobbies. Now I'm afraid of
