The bride, 36, and groom, 39, were pronounced man and wife by local reverend(神父) Peter Donald who offered his services for free, while the photographer offered his services in exchange for some graphic design (平面设计) work by the bride, and the cakes were made by her aunt.

A New Zealand environmental organization is targeting the Easter bunny in a renewed war against one of the country's worst natural pests(害虫). The organization Environment Canterbury on the country's South Island wants people to come up with an alternative Easter symbol as part of a campaign to throw light on the damage caused by the non-native pest.
"They're like an environmental curse. We did have a similar competition a number of years ago and we came up with the Easter Kiwi," Mark Oldfield of Environment Canterbury said, referring to the flightless bird that is the country's national bird.
Rabbits were introduced in the late 19th century for a fur trade that never got established, but they reproduced at such a rate that they spread large parts throughout the country, eating the little vegetation and causing widespread erosion.
Local authorities in New Zealand spent tens of millions of dollars in poisoning and shooting campaigns to control rabbits before the introduction of a virus. The virus that caused the rabbits to bleed to death was introduced illegally in 1997, obviously cutting numbers, but Oldfield said some rabbits were building immunity.
The rabbit as an Easter symbol seems to have its origins in Germany, where it was first mentioned in writings in the 1500s. But the kiwi, the size of a large chicken, appears to be a more fitting Easter icon as it lays a huge egg that is six times as big as normal for a bird its size.

Sweetest Day is always the third Saturday in October. This holiday is much more important in some regions than in others (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo being the biggest Sweetest Day cities). It is a holiday that is more and more popular throughout the country. Sweetest Day is celebrated as a day to make someone happy. It is
a moment which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick and the aged, and children without parents, but also friends, relatives and those whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.
Over 60 years ago, a Cleveland man, Herbert Birch Kingston, believing that the city's orphans(孤儿) and patients too often felt forgotten and neglected, thought up the idea of showing them that they were remembered. He did this by giving out small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he gave out these small gifts on a Saturday in October. During the years that followed, other Clevelanders began to take part in the celebration, which came to be called "Sweetest Day". In time, Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the weak was broadened to include everyone, and Sweetest Day became a moment for remembering others with a kind act or small gifts-cards, candy, flowers and so on. And soon the idea spread to other cities all over the country.
Sweetest Day is not based on any single group's religious feelings or on a family relationship. It is a reminder that a thoughtful word or deed enriches(丰富) life and gives it meaning. Because for many people remembering takes the form of gift-giving. Sweetest Day offers us the opportunity to show others that we care in a practical way.

If you have a chance to go to Finland, you will probably be surprised to find how “foolish” the Finnish people are.
Take the taxi drivers for example. Taxis in Finland are mostly high-class Benz with a fare of two US dollars a kilometer. You can go anywhere in one, tell the driver to drop you at any place, say that you have some business to attend to, and then walk off without paying your fare. The driver would not show the least sign of anxiety.
The dining rooms in all big hotels not only serve their guests, but also serve outside diners. Hotel guests have their meals free, so they naturally go to the free dining rooms to have their meals. The most they would do to show their good faith is to wave their registration card to the waiter. With such a loose check, you can easily use any old registration(登记) card to take a couple of friends to dine free of charge.
The Finnish workers are paid by the hour. They are very much on their own as soon as they have agreed with the boss on the rate. From then on they just say how many hours they have worked and they will be paid accordingly.
With so many loopholes(漏洞) in everyday life, surely Finland must be a heaven to those who love to take “petty advantages”. But the strange thing is, all the taxi passengers would always come back to pay their fare after they have attended to their business; not a single outsider has ever been found in the free hotel dining rooms. And workers always give an honest account of the exact hours they put in. As the Finns always act on good faith in everything they do, living in such a society has turned everyone into a real “gentleman”.
99. The underlined words in this passage means to “ ”.
A. be ready to help others
B. make good use of one's friends
C. be a little ahead of others
D. gain something at other's expense
100. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage
A. While taking a taxi in Finland, you can get off without first paying your fare.
B. In a big hotel in Finland, you can enjoy free meals if you're living in the hotel.
C. The bosses in Finland pay the employees according to registration of their working hours.
D. The workers are always honest with their working hours.
101. We can learn from the passage that .
A. the Finnish society is of very high moral(道德) level
B. there are many loopholes in everyday life in Finland
C. in Finland, most taxi drivers will not charge you anything
D. everyone in Finland is like a gentleman, for they have faith in themselves
102. Which of the following is the best title of the passage
A. Life in Finland
B. A Society with “Foolish” People
C. What A Life
D. Honest Accounts of the Finns
