A couple who held hands at breakfast every morning even after 70 years of marriage have died 15 hours apart because of natural causes. Helen Felumlee, of Nashport, died at 92 on April 12. Her husband, 91-year-old Kenneth Felumlee, died the next morning.
The couple's eight children said the two had been inseparable since meeting as teenagers, once sharing the bottom of a bunk bed on a ferry rather than sleeping one night apart. According to Cody, about 12 hours after Helen died, Kenneth looked at his children and said, "Mom's dead." He quickly began to fade and was surrounded by 24 of his closest family members and friends when he died the next morning.
Kenneth worked as a railroad car inspector and mechanic before becoming a mail carrier for the Nashport Post Office. He was active in his Nashport-Irville United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher.
Helen stayed at home, not only cooking and cleaning for her own family but also for other families in need in the area. She taught in a Sunday school, too, but was known more for her greeting card ministry, sending cards for birthdays, sympathy and the holidays to everyone in her community, each with a personal note inside.
"She kept Hallmark in business," daughter-in-law Debbie Felumlee joked.
When Kenneth retired in 1983 and the children began to leave the house, the Felumlees began to explore their love of travel, visiting almost all 50 states by bus.

Acid rain (酸雨) is very harmful to the environment because it makes living things die. Acid rain affects life in the water as well as life on the land. It is even worse in the water because the fish need the water to breathe. When the water gets polluted, the fish get sick and end up dying.
All rainwater contains some level acidity(酸性). Acidity is measured by Ph, which stands for potential of hydrogen(氢). The Ph scale measures the amount of acid in a substance. Ph is measured on a scale from 0 to14, with 7 being neutral(中性的). The lower the number is on the Ph scale, the more acidic that substance is. Normal rainwater has a Ph of 5.6. When the Ph level of rainwater goes below 5.6, it is considered acid rain.
All of the sea life will die when the water becomes too acidic. For example, all fish will die when the water goes below a Ph of 4.5. Most of the frogs and insects that live around the water will also die when the water reaches a Ph of 4.5. When the water has a Ph of 5.5, all of the bottom dwelling bacterial decomposers(分解体), animals that eat the remains of the food that other animals don't want, will begin to die. When these decomposers die, they will leave the undercomposed food on the bottom. This will make the water dirty and polluted. All fresh water shrimp will die when the water has a Ph of 6.0. Aquatic plants will grow the best when the water has a Ph between 7.0 and 9.2. If the acid rain problem gets worse, all of the sea life will eventually be gone.

One blue sky above us,
One ocean lapping at our shore ,
One earth so great and round,
Who could ask for anything more
Pete Seeger
In fact, nobody has the right to ask for anything more. If we humans fail to keep a balance between our needs and the needs of the natural world, our great round Earth will no longer be fit to live on.
There are many reasons for keeping this balance.
For one, if we continue to over-fish the seas, certain species will disappear. The kinds of fish that we humans catch feed on smaller ones, and if all these killers disappear, the smaller fish will overwhelm(泛滥) the sea. Edible(可食的) fish---as well as many fishermen's livelihoods---will disappear.
And if we continue to clear land, cutting down trees, the animals, which use trees as a food source and for shelter, will suffer from a disturbance. Many of them will eventually die out.
Since we love the beauty and grace of deer and moose running in our woods, protection against over-hunting is also a must. If hunters break our laws and kill animals when it is not time, then these species won't be there any more ---for beauty or hunting.
Finally, if man keeps polluting and littering, the waters---fresh and salt---nonbiode-gradable substances (非降解物质) will build up and make the water unfit to support underwater lives. Again, many people who make their living from the sea will no longer be able to.
We need this balance to keep the beauty of our world for ourselves and for our children and grandchildren. For if that beauty disappears, everything man can hope to achieve will be lost forever.

Text 9
M:I see from your letter,Mrs.Thomas.We would be interested in having you work for us.
W:Well, thank you.I have done this kind of work before.I love children, and,of course,I did a good job raising my son.
M:Are you interested in part-time or full-time employment
W:Only part time, forty hours in one week is too much for me.
M:You know part-time employees don't get any other benefits except pay.
W:Yes,I know that.May I ask if I can decide on the hours I would like to work
M:I can only give you the choice of working 7:00 a.m. till noon or noon till 5:00 p.m. Our part-time work is 25 hours per week.
W:I would prefer to work in the morning because I have a lot of work to do around the house every day.
M:OK.Mrs.Thomas,or should I say Lily You're hired.Just sign your name on this chart.

M:OK.That's all for the news. Now,Science Report. Thanks to new technology,we can explore the sea in ways that were not imagined just 30 years ago.And people don't need to take so many dangerous dives. But if they must, they can move freely hundreds of meters down in today's diving suits.
The newest robots can move like fish in the sea and get around the oceans by themselves. Some vehicles can even travel all the way to the sea floor.
New wireless technology connects the sea with the land by the use of the Internet. With information sent immediately, scientists can make decisions almost at the same time.
And let's not forget to mention the underwater hydrophones. These can receive and record ocean sounds.Noise in the oceans Yes,indeed. The sea is by no means the silent world we thought it to be.The hydrophones record earthquakes, and even sounds made by fish. This information is sent over the Internet as well.
