This story is about the 1914-1916 expedition led by Ernest Shackleton to make the first land crossing of Antarctica.
As Shackleton and his crew approached Antarctica, unfortunately, the ship was stuck and they were trapped on Elephant Island. However, they didn’t quit. Shackleton left them to find help, while the crew had to struggle to survive in the extreme weather and cold. Eventually, owing to their perseverance, discipline, teamwork, optimism and trust in each other, all of them survived and created a wonder.
What impresses me most is the lesson the story conveys: never give up no matter how tough the situations are. Just like Samuel Johnson says, “Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.” Only those who showed great perseverance, positivity, and courage to face adversity can achieve a lot and never be defeated.

Practice 英文小说The Story of Stephen Hawking 书评
In the winter vacation, I read a wonderful book named The Story of Stephen Hawking. It tells of a world-famous physicist Stephen Hawking who was born in 1942 in the UK. He showed great interest in the universe at a very young age and he has won a great reputation for his science book, A Brief History of Time. Although he has lived with the serious disease for most of his lifetime, his optimistic and humorous attitude towards life impressed us a lot.
After reading the book, I feel inspired and decide to devote my life to science too. I will work harder at my lessons and try to live my life to the fullest. Faced with difficulties, I will be brave and strong like Stephen Hawking. I strongly suggest you all read it!
That’s all. Thank you!
