A group of female students from the University of Georgia (UGA ) can now add “lifesavers” to their resumes (简历). They are being honored as heroes after they took action during an accident.
They were traveling from Athens to Savannah for a weekend activity. After turning along Murray Hill Road in Burke County, the group of sisters saw a dust cloud below the bridge with a flash of white light. They pulled over super fast, turned and went down the hill to the area where they just found a white minivan (小型货车) was underwater. Without hesitation, they rushed to rescue the passengers.
“Two of us quickly entered the water to get the victims to safety while the others gathered supplies and communicated with emergency respondents. We were just trying to get the children out of the water.” said McCollum, one of the five students. Along with the mom, there were two children in the back of the car. While one student called 911, another put her life-guarding skills to the test by performing CPR on one of the children. Another student, Jones, said it was a “worst-case situation”, but somehow, within a minute, the child began responding.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office said all survivors of the incident were sent to a hospital and that they were released the next day. McCollum told that she was grateful she and her friends were able to provide aid to the family. “I think we are constantly placed in the right place at the right time to be of help to others.” she said. “There are people struggling all around us all the time. If we can help one another, the outcomes can be just as influential as in assisting in huge events.”
The five women who took part in the rescue were honored by the University of Georgia. UGA president Jere W. Morehcad said in a press release, “I am so proud of these heroic students and their act of courage and teamwork.”
4. Why did the young students stop their car quickly
A. It was time to have a rest. B. They saw something strange.
C. They witnessed an accident. D. There was a cry for help.
5. What can we learn about the minivan
A. It was going to Savannah. B. It nearly fell into the water.
C. It carried three people in it. D. It was suddenly out of control.
6. How did the students save the passengers
A. By following officers’ instructions. B. By making use of diverse tools.
C. By taking them to the hospital. D. By conducting first aid means.
7. What can be inferred from what McCollum said in paragraph 4
A. There are many chances to help others.
B. Doing good needs to be at specific times.
C. It’s everyone’s duty to reach out to others.
D. Large accidents require more help.

Italian cuisine, deeply linked with ancient cultures like the Greeks, Arabs, and Romans, reflects a rich culinary(烹饪的)heritage. It has been influenced by historical events, regional climates, and cultural exchanges. Many Italians see traditional Italian dishes as the most significant aspect of their national identity, over culture, fashion, football, science and technology. This deep connection to culinary tradition highlights the significant role of food in shaping Italian culture and identity.
During the 14th century and beyond, new ingredients were introduced from the newly found world. Tomatoes, potatoes and so on affected Italian cooking a lot. This period saw the improvement of cooking techniques and the introduction of different flavors. Influences from other European countries also began to shape Italian dishes, leading to the rich variety of flavors and styles. These set the foundation for modern Italy’s diverse and fancy culinary landscape. In the 16th century, French cuisine influenced the formal dining scene with complex dishes and culinary techniques that emphasized appearance and presentation. All dishes were laid out at the same time, giving guests the freedom to serve themselves.
Following Italy’s unificatio(统一). Pellegrino Artusi, the father of Italian cuisine, noted that there was a need to build a whole Italian identity where culinary tradition played an important role. His Italian cookbook Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well increased the cultural unification. Historian Piero Camporesi even said that Artusi’s cookbook contributed more to national unification than some of Italy’s most influential literary works.
The 19th century saw a huge change in dining styles, shifting from French to Russian service. Russian service was characterized by serving one course at a time, each freshly cooked and hot. After a period where both styles co-existed, Russian service remains the main method today, which keeps fine dining experience while reducing over waste.
Italian cuisine, a key part of Italy’s identity, shows how the country absorbs different traditions into its own unique style. Its beauty lies in its diversity, with no single dish shining than others. This food culture, common to all regions and social classes, represents the whole of Italy.
8. Why are Italian dishes richer in the ingredients after the 14th century
A. Because of the introduction of farming techs.
B. Because of the exchange with nearby countries.
C. Because of the new geographical discovery.
D. Because of the influences from French dishes.
9. Why does the author mention Piero Camporesi
A. To prove Artusi’s point of view. B. To advocate recipes in Italian.
C. To show literature’s importance. D. To praise Artusi’s contribution.
10. What can be known about the Italian cuisine today
A. It’s famous for French style. B. It’s very rich in content.
C. It has regional differences. D. It abandons its original tradition.
11. What is the main idea of the text
A. Italian food history and cultural influences.
B. Features making the Italian dishes unique.
C. Factors shaping the Italian national identity.
D. Italian cuisine and the birth of a unified Italy.
D
The landline (座机) was an impressive presence in the house where I grew up. On the rare and alarming occasions when it rang, there was an inflexible polite sentence for answering: “Sittingbourne 981, who is speaking, please ”
The phone both was and wasn`t an instrument of communication. The occasions for its use were clearly defined — and random chatting wasn’t one of them. Its situation in the front hail, from where every word could be heard throughout the house, was an effective solution to the endless conversations that are (or were) the favourite occupation of teenagers.
Later mobile phones appeared. Now only 47 per cent of households have a home phone. Times are changing, and the message from the advocates of digital technology is that we should change with them. In many ways this is a reasonable proposition. My smartphone can tell me how to get from one place to another, answer questions about unknown 19th-century artists or medical symptoms.
However, when it comes to that most basic function of a telephone — talking to people — my smartphone is rubbish. On moving into my new house, in a village 50 miles from the capital, I was unsurprised to discover almost no phone signal. In the ten days that it took for broadband (宽带) to be connected, I found myself in the bush — the only place where there was a bar of signal, trying to talk about an urgency with a doctor. It was at once blackly comic and severely frustrating. I began to understand why my son swerve (急转) phone calls in favour of messaging, socials and voice notes.
Yet long before the appearance of telecommunications, printing, or even writing, speech was the most fundamental of human interactions. Talking on the phone or in person is hard work, because it demands an ability to listen. However, it almost certainly matters a lot. Now phone calls are dying. The art of conversation may not be far behind. Smartphones are updating very quickly.
12. Why was the author’s landline improper for random chatting
A. It was usually occupied by teenagers.
B. It was monitored by the grown-ups at home.
C. It couldn’t guarantee the privacy of the conversation.
D. It was only allowed to be used in alarming occasions.
13. What does the underlined word “proposition” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Suggestion. B. Plan. C. Explanation. D. Solution.
14. What makes the author’s smartphone rubbish
A. Occasional breakdowns. B. Frequent poor signals.
C. Wrong connected broadband. D. Incomplete functional system.
15. Which statement might the author agree with
A. The landline no longer has its advantages.
B. The art of conversation is nowhere to be found.
C. The youth realize the importance of the landline.
D. The ability to have a phone conversation counts.

While intuition may seem mysterious and magical for most of us, research has explained the potential abilities that enable our minds to engage in thinking without thinking. Gladwell, a writer for The New Yorker, has explored many studies and real-life examples. ____17____
One such study involved examining the ability of art experts to determine the authenticity (真实性) of artwork. ____18____ They have sharpened their intuition through years of experience and exposure to various art styles and techniques. ____19____ Leaders who listen to their intuitive wisdom make innovative decisions that lead to success in business. In personal relationships intuitive insights can help us understand the needs and feelings of others, fostering deeper connections.
Although intuition can provide valuable insights, it is not rock-solid (坚如磐石). ____20____ To use the power of intuition effectively, we can cultivate a few essential practices. Besides engaging in activities that enable our mind to gather valuable knowledge and patterns, gathering additional information to confirm or challenge our intuitive insights is very important. As a doctor in a famous hospital in the big city, my aid to a remote village is firm and unshakable. I am a regular visitor, not just as a medical volunteer but as a friend, a part of their extended family. The aid has been a test, and in overcoming it, we have all discovered a deeper sense of unity and purpose. The aid also has built a bond between us, one that will continue to grow stronger with each visit.
On a summer afternoon, the heat was almost unbearable, the air thick with the promise of a coming storm. As a volunteer in the remote village medical aid activity, I was aware of the urgency of our mission. The village was accessible only by a narrow dirt road, and we had to complete the medical consultations before the sun dipped below the horizon.
Shortly after I treated the last patient, I received an urgent message that made me nervous. A villager had been stung by an unknown insect and was experiencing a severe allergic (过敏的) reaction. Time was of the essence; it could be fatal if not treated timely.
I swiftly coordinated a response team, which included a local guide familiar with the shortcuts through the dense forest that separated us from the nearest hospital. We gently moved the stricken villager onto a stretcher (担架), and with the leading of the villager’s family, we began the race against time.
The journey was filled with challenges. The forest was a labyrinth (迷宫) of shadows and whispers, the damp and dangerous bushes. As it was night, our progress was slowed by the need to navigate by the dim light of our flashlights. The villager’s breathing became difficult, and his pain was clear.
In the distance, the faint but growing sound of helicopter cut through the evening silence — a rescue team was on its way. However, the trees were too dense for a safe landing. We needed to act fast, but the helicopter didn’t find us for a long time. Suddenly, an idea occurred to me while we nearly had a sense of desperation.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
I used our flashlights to shine on the dark sky.

Dear Johnson,
Knowing that you’ve been in a bad mood due to the failure in a game last week, I am writing to you to share my opinions.
As we all know, you are very excellent at chess. The failure last week really doesn’t matter, for it is normal to occasionally fail in the competition. Therefore, instead of feeling frustrated and losing heart, you’re supposed to summarize the reasons for the failure and continue to train hard, and then you’re bound to defeat your future opponents. You should trust yourself, because failure is the mother of success.
I sincerely hope that you can keep a good mood.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】One possible version:
I used our flashlights to shine on the dark sky. It was a flash of hope, a brilliant streak of color against the dark. The helicopter responded, circling lower, its searchlight passing through the night as it located us. We hurriedly cleared a small area, pushing aside fallen branches to create a landing place. The rescue team’s arrival was a masterful display of efficiency. The villager was quickly yet carefully transferred to the helicopter, which lifted off as swiftly as it had landed, disappearing into the night sky.
We returned to the village and found that the villagers were still waiting for us. Obviously, they were eager to know the situation of the injured. I told them that the villager had received timely medical assistance and the doctor said there should be nothing very serious about him. Upon hearing this, all the villagers breathed a sigh of relief. After expressing their gratitude to me, they slowly went back home. Sensing their sincere heart, I truly realized the significance of medical aid and was more determined to continue this career.
