With the Easter Holidays just around the corner, here are three different ideas to inspire you to make the most of the break, whatever your age.
Botany Bay
With stunning views of white cliffs and chalk stacks, this beach is a great spot to spend a day relaxing and playing on the sands. Located in Kent and with lifeguards on duty, it’s a great spot for splashing in the surf, exploring the rockpools, and hunting for fossils (化石). The Saxon Shore Way passes along the clifftop so it’s an easy walk along to other fantastic beaches like Joss Bay, or across to Margate.
The Lake District
If you’ re adventurous, climb the rocks at Keswick — or perhaps take a gentler stroll around one of the lakes, like Buttermere. It wouldn’t be a trip to the Lake District without getting on the water though. Explore the waterways of this beautiful location with different views from a kayak on Derwent Water. If you pass through Grasmere, be sure to stop at the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop for authentic gingerbread, rum butter, and other treats to delight the whole family. You’ll also find William Wordsworth’s grave (坟墓) just behind the shop in St. Oswald’s church if you’ re interested in the local Romantic poet.
Bristol
Travel to the southwest to explore bustling (熙攘的) Bristol. Full of amazing restaurants housed in warehouses that ha rk back to the city’s maritime history, Bristol has got more than enough to keep the whole family entertained no matter what they like to get up to. The iconic Clift on Suspension Bridge boasts some of the best views in Bristol. There are also fascinating museums, amazing parks for picnics and games, and even a surf centre nearby. Shop, eat, play — whatever you fancy doing, Bristol has it all.
1. What can we know about Botany Bay
A. It is a great spot to explore the waterways.
B. It’s easy to walk along to many famous beaches.
C. It’s not necessary to hire a car for Easter holiday.
D. It’s the best choice to make the most of the break.
2. What activities are not mentioned in The Lake District
A. Climbing rocks. B. Visiting museums and parks.
C. Enjoying authentic food. D. Going sightseeing.
3. Where can the text be found
A. On a tourist website. B. In a science fiction.
C. In a geography text. D. In a tourism research.
B
The father of an 8-year-old boy says his son is now the youngest person to climb California’ s El Capitan. After four days of guided climbing, Joe Baker and his son Sam reached the top of the cliff (悬崖) face inside Yosemite National Park last week.
“We made it!” Joe said. “What an amazing week! I’m so proud of Sam. He completed the youngest rope climbing of El Capitan! In a few years he might be back breaking more records.”
Rock climbing has been a favorite pastime for the Baker family. Though Sam’s mother didn’t join the climbing, she is also a crazy climber. The family set up a website to record Sam’s adventures and collect money to make films that inspire parents to adventure with their kids. Sam began training at least 18 months ago and did well in a test run. They began the climbing on October 25 and reached the top on 28. They made the journey with the help of two guides.
But their achievement has not been without controversy (争议): as the climbing made headlines around the world, some members of the Yosemite climbing community began to say publicly that what the pair had done was not actually called climbing. The Bakers used a technique known as “jugging” which needs using handheld devices to slide up a fixed rope that’s been placed by a guide, without touching the rock face.
Reaching the top can not be so simple. The climbing takes many days, which means carrying up all necessary food, water and other heavy equipment. It also involves setting up and sleeping on a small platform that’s suspended (悬) thousands of feet in the air. The rock face is very exposed, a term (术语) used to describe a place that’s steep (陡峭的) and unprotected.
4. What do we know about Sam from the first two paragraphs
A. He is the best climber in California.
B. He has been trained by his father.
C. He is the youngest climber reaching the top of El Capitan.
D. He is planning another mountain climbing with his father.
5. Why did the Bakers found a website
A. To record their happy life.
B. To encourage families to experience adventures.
C. To show off Sam’s climbing experience.
D. To advise parents to climb El Capitan with their kids.
6. What’s some members’ attitude to the achievement of Joe and Sam in paragraph 4
A. Supportive. B. Impressive. C. Unconcerned. D. Doubtful.
7 What can we learn about the climbing from the last paragraph
A. It is challenging and fun. B. It needs some courage.
C. It requires high-tech equipment. D. It affects most climbers’ sleep.
C
The human brain is a powerful natural computer that has evolved over tens of thousands of years. But what would you get if you combined this biological computer with a real one
Researchers at Indiana University Bloomington in the US have linked human brain-like tissues (类脑组织) to an electronic chip (芯片), which can perform simple computer tasks. Their creation, named Brainoware, is part of a growing field called biological computing that might one day outperform (超过) current computers, according to Nature.
The brain-like tissues the researchers used, also known as brain organoids (类器官), weren’t part of a living person’s brain. They were “grown” from human stem cells (干细胞), which are capable of producing different types of cells and forming body tissues. It took two months for the stem cells to mature into an organoid.
The researchers then placed one organoid onto an electronic chip with thousands of electrodes (电极). Although organoids are much simpler and smaller than an actual brain, they act similarly to human brains, such as responding to electrical signals, which is what our brain does all the time. These responses lead to changes in the brain, which fuel our ability to learn.
To test Brainoware, the researchers used it for voice recognition by training it with 240 Japanese recordings spoken by eight speakers. They found that the organoid reacted differently toward each voice. With an accuracy of78 percent, it successfully identified the speakers by showing different neural (神经的) activities.
According to the researchers’ work published in December, combining organoids and electronic chips could increase the speed and efficiency of AI in the future. Also, such models can be used to study human brains, according to Nature. Using Brainoware to model and study neurological disorders (神经系统疾病), such as Alzheimer’s disease, is one example. It could also be used to test the effects of different treatments for such diseases. “That’s where the promise is: using these to one day hopefully replace animal models of the brain,” Arti Ahluwalia, a researcher in Italy, told Nature.
8. Why did the author mention the human brain in the first paragraph
A. To give an example. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To compare with the computer. D. To give the background information.
9. What can we learn about Brainoware from the passage
A. Brainoware can create an electronic chip.
B. It may surpass current computers in the future.
C. It can link brain-like tissues.
D. Brainoware contains the technology which is connected with current computers.
10. What’s the main idea of paragraph 4
A. Organoid’s advantages.
B. The differences between organoids and actual brain.
C. Organoid’s components.
D. How organoids work in Brainoware.
11. What’s the best title of the passage
A. From Mind to Machine B. Human Brain’s New Invention
C. The Development of Brainoware D. The Cure of Neurological Disorders

Struggling to remember your password again New tech called a “passkey” will soon make logging in easier and more secure, writes our tech expert James O’ Malley.
The way passkeys work is by turning your phone into something a bit like a wallet, which you can use to store membership cards to all of your apps and services. When you need to log in to a website, you’ll just have to tap a button on your phone and your passkey wallet will flash the right credentials, letting you in without any trouble. And even if you’ re logging in to a device that doesn’t have access to your wallet, when you type in your email address, the website will send a message to your phone to check your credentials.
And how does it keep this virtual wallet safe By using the same “biometric” check your phone uses — a face scan or a fingerprint that cannot easily be forged (伪造).
Once passkeys are applied, they won’t just save us from having to remember passwords but perhaps logging in with a passkey will actually be significantly more secure than typing a password.
James O’ Malley noted: “It’s a really clever idea, and that passkeys are going to make our digital lives even more secure.” Because they help guard against two common forms of digital attack. First, it guards against data breaches — situations where hackers (黑客) gain access to a database of passwords. This is because, unlike most people who repeat their passwords, each passkey is unique. And secondly, passkeys make things much harder for scams (诈骗). Because when you log in and your digital wallet has to send over an unlock code, the code it sends will only be valid for a few seconds at a time — so even if a hacker does get hold of your key very briefly,30seconds later it will be useless anyway.
So, next time you’ re complaining in frustration that you can’t remember your password, don’t worry too much. It won’t always be like this!
12. How does the passkey work
A. By turning your phone into a virtual wallet.
B. By flashing the right credentials.
C. By storing and providing the needed and secret information.
D. By sending a message to your phone to check your credential.
13. What does the underlined word “credentials” mean in paragraph 2
A. Membership card. B. Identification.
C. Email address. D. Message.
14. What is true according to the passage
A. Passkey can offer your biological information to log in your apps or services.
B. Passkey is more secure because hackers can’t access the database of passwords.
C. Passkey is reliable because it can protect people from being scammed.
D The password offered by the passkey is different when people log in every time.
15. What’s the best title of the passage
A. Passkey: a wallet needn’t password
B. Passkey: a practical virtual wallet
C. Forgetting your password will soon be a thing of the past
D. Passkey: new technology to secure your online apps

【答案】One possible version:
Emma started crying. Miss Maria went to her and wiped her tears and said, “You understand now my dear That’s how everyone else felt when you laughed at them. My child, instead of laughing, you can help the other person to get out of the uncomfortable situation. Trust me, it will make you feel much better.” Emma realized how bad she made everyone else feel.
Emma said sorry to everyone, especially Elva. “Elva, I am so sorry. I didn’t know you were hurt this much. I apologize to you for my foolish behavior.” “I understand. It’s OK and I forgive you. You realized your mistake and that’s enough for me, as long as you don’t do the same thing again,” Elva replied. “No! I have learned my lesson. From now on, I’ll help people in trouble rather than laugh at them for being stuck or unable to figure out the answer.” Afterward, Emma and Elva became friends and helped each other out when in trouble.
