In December 2004, as a new professional photographer, I began to work on a project about communities who live on the sea in southeast Asia.
I went out to sea with them regularly. On the morning of 26 December, I was due to set out with a group of six fishermen in a small boat. It was about 8 am, and the sea looked different. The water was totally still. I could tell from the way the fishermen were behaving that something wasn’t right. They seemed to be discussing whether or not we should set off, but the eldest, who operated the boat, gave the go-ahead order.
About 20 minutes later, one of the fishermen pointed to a small white spot far in the distance. It looked like a football. It was getting bigger and bigger very quickly. We were aware that this was a tsunami wave speeding through the ocean like a tornado.
With a big wave, you would usually try to get as far out as possible into the open sea. The deeper the water, the weaker the wave. But we weren’t far enough out to be safe, nor close enough to the shore to make it back before the wave would hit the land. We were trapped.
When I realized that the fishermen, who were born on the sea, were afraid, I began to feel really scared. At some point the elder took control. No one panicked or screamed. The captain told the six of us where to sit, so we would balance out the boat.
I was sitting on one of the benches in the middle, with my back facing the five to seven meter high wave. I took hold of my seat firmly, closed my eyes and said goodbye to the world, my family and friends, in my mind.
Suddenly there was a huge noise and a sudden movement. The wave had hit the boat, but in the very second of impact, the incredibly skilled captain got it right. He managed to sail up and on to the wave. Then the boat glided from the tip of the wave down behind it, into safe waters. He had saved us all.
Surviving gave me a deep understanding of how short life can be. I’ve been going back to southeast Asia almost every year to thank the people who saved my life.
4. What happened before they set out to the sea
A. They found something unusual. B. They didn’t want the author to go with them.
C. They received the warning from the captain. D. They knew the disaster was on the way.
5. Why the author felt scared in the article
A. Because they came across a shark. B. Because their boat was out of order.
C. Because he realized a tsunami was approaching. D. Because the water was very deep.
6. Which of the following words can best describe the captain
A Smart and modest. B. Experienced and clam.
C. Kind and honest. D. Humorous and determined.
7. Which of the following would be the most suitable title for the article
A. The Daily Life of Fishermen B. A Dangerous Sea Adventure
C. How to Survive a Tornado D. A Photo of a Tsunami

Traditionally, China’s astronauts are selected from among fighter plane pilots with ample flying experience, as they can control the machinery and have the training to stay calm in space.
Yet among the three astronauts aboard Shenzhou XVI, which is taking them to Tiangong, China’s space station, is Gui Haichao, a professor from Beihang University. He is the first civilian that China has sent into space, and will conduct space science experiments, collect and analyze data and maintain the lab devices on the space station.
That’s good news for the nation’s space science, as he will be more professional in carrying out research experiments on the space station.
It is also good news for China’s astronautics sector, as it shows that the nation is confident enough to send persons other than military pilots into space. It means that the level for traveling into space is being lowered, offering hope that one day ordinary people will be able to buy a ticket for a trip into space.
Besides Gui, there is also Zhu Yangzhu, a space flight engineer from China’s astronaut team, who will serve as a professional rather than a pilot. Zhu’s teaching experience in college, similar to that of Gui, is also evidence of Chinese astronauts’ educational background being raised.
Twenty years after Shenzhou V took China’s first astronaut Yang Liwei out of the Earth’s atmosphere, China already has a full team of astronauts ready to further our understanding of the cosmos (宇宙).
Mission commander Jing Haipeng is on his fourth trip into space, making him the Chinese astronaut with the richest experience in space travel. In the 15 years between his first mission and this one, China has progressed from sending astronauts into space to supporting their stay for half a year on its newly constructed space station.
8. What does the underlined word “ample” mean in the first paragraph
A. Enough. B. Continuous. C. Curious. D. Intelligent.
9. What do we know about Gui Haichao
A. He is a fighter plane pilot.
B. He went to space aboard Shenzhou V.
C. He is the first civilian that China has sent into space.
D. He has the richest experience in space travel.
10. What can we infer from the 4th paragraph
A. Ordinary people can travel in the space at present.
B. Military pilots won’t take part in the space exploration.
C. The cost of space travel for ordinary people is very low nowadays.
D. China’s aerospace technology has reached a new level.
11. What is author’s attitude to achievement of the space exploration in China
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Indifferent.

Many years ago, when I was a little child, my elder brother whispered to me that there wasn’t Santa Claus in the world before Christmas. Hearing this, I immediately rushed to my grandmother’s house because she was my most trustworthy person and she would tell me anything she knew to me. It so happened that she was at home. After I told her what my elder brother had told me, she shouted “No Santa Claus Ridiculous (荒谬)! Don’t believe it” What upset most was that the rumor had been going around for years, and it mad me mad, plain mad.
“Now, follow me.”
“Go where, Grandma ” I asked. “Where” turned out to be Kerby’s General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. “Take this money,” she said, “and buy something for someone who needs it. I’ll wait for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby’s.
I was only eight years old. I’d often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy and who to buy it for. I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid with bad breath and messy hair. He sat right behind me in Mrs Pollock’s grade-two class.
Bobby Decker didn’t have a coat. I knew that because he never went out for recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn’t have a cough, and he didn’t have a coat. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.
“Is this a Christmas present for someone ” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. “Yes.”
The nice lady smiled at me, put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in Christmas paper.

I am sorry to see that you have been under a lot of pressure this term. I have gone through the same struggle as you, so here I’d like to offer several pieces of advice.
Firstly, you need to be more positive and confident. What’s more, it also helps to make a timetable to improve your efficiency. Last but not least, why not try to strike a balance between work and rest Proper relaxation can better prepare you for the upcoming tasks.
Hope my advice can be of help to you.
Yours,

【答案】参考范文
That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in Christmas paper. She wrote “To Bobby, From Santa Claus” on it, after which she drove me over to Bobby Decker’s house, explaining I was officially one of Santa’s helpers. Grandma parked down the street from Bobby’s house, and I took a deep breath, and dashed for his front door. Seeing no other people notice us, I put the Christmas present down, pounded his doorbell and then Grandma and I hid in the car.
Grandma and I waited breathlessly for Bobby Decker’s front door to open and finally it opened. Out went Bobby Decker. Seeing the coat in the bag, he looked very astonished and then called his mother to go out. After hearing them say “Thanks” to Santa Claus, I felt very proud of what I had done. At that time I decided to be Santa’s helper for ever. It was on that night that I realized the truth that he who has no Christmas in his heart will never find Christmas under a tree.
