This week, our reporters asked students to think about life in the future. They talked about lots of issues (议题) and different people have different opinions (观点). Today, we are going to see two students’ opinions about one of the issues. It is the issue of people living longer.
Mary’s opinion:
I think it will be a bad thing if people live longer in the future. Firstly, people will live longer, but babies will still be born. There will be more people. So the world will become more crowded. Secondly, if people live longer, they will spend the government (政府) a lot more money. The government pays each old person some money, a pension, to live on because they no longer go to work. If people live longer, the government will have to pay pensions for longer. Lastly, if people live longer, they will get sick and more things will go wrong with them.
Peter’s opinion:
I think it will be a very good thing. Today, lots of people work very hard all their lives. Then they stop working and retire (退休). Often, they do not get time to enjoy their retirement. They get sick and die. Doctors are looking for new ways of keeping people healthy. So people will enjoy their retirement. They won’t get sick all the time. Many people today save money when they are working. They put the money aside for their future. Then, when they retire, they have pensions of their own. In the future, people will do this more. Then the government won’t have to spend more on pensions.
( )12. What is the text mainly about
A. People will need more money in the future.
B. Where the old people will live in the future.

B. The government has enough money to pay pensions.
C. People will hardly get sick when they live longer.
D. The longer people live, the happier people will be.
( )14. How does the text develop (发展)
A. By telling stories. B. By listing numbers.
C. By asking questions. D. By comparing.
( )15. We can read the text in the part of ________ in a newspaper.
A. sports B. shopping C. education D. health

第一节 阅读表达(共5 小题;每小题2 分,满分10 分)
阅读下面短文,完成短文后的问题。
At the moment, it may be difficult to imagine, but many people believe that by the year 2100 we will live on Mars (火星). Our own planet, the earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. Luckily, we can start again and build a better world on Mars.
First of all, transport should be much better. At present, our spaceships are too slow. It takes months to carry people to Mars. However, by 2100, spaceships can travel at half the speed (速度) of light. It might take us two or three days to get to Mars!
There is a problem for us to live on Mars. The gravity (地心引力) of Mars is much smaller than that of the earth. This will be not safe because we could easily jump too high and fly slowly away into space. To avoid (避免) this problem, humans on Mars have to wear special shoes to make themselves heavier.
There will be no school on Mars. Every student will have a computer at home which is connected to the Internet. They can study, do their homework and take exams in online schools. Each student will also have his own online teacher called the “e-teacher”. However, in some ways, life on Mars may not be better than that on the earth today. First, food will not taste good. Meals will probably be in the form of pills (药丸) and will not be as delicious as they are today. Also, space travel will make many people feel ill. The spaceship will travel fast, so the journey to Mars will probably be very uncomfortable (不舒服).
