DIY sailor Owen Warboys has finally launched his homemade boat-after spending nearly 30 years building it in his mum's garden.
Owen, 66, a retired engineer from Hordle, New Milton, Hants, first started work on the 40ft-long boat in 1982 because he could not afford to buy his own. He told mum Edith that it would only take five years but after suffering “a few problems” it lasted nearly three decades.
When he finally finished, he was left with the head-scratching task of getting the 18-tonne boat out of the back garden. After some time he found a way. A huge crane(起重机) was brought in to carefully raise it 40ft in the air over his mother's house and onto a lorry. It was then driven to the seaside and, to Owen's delight, it floated and showed no signs of leaking when lowered into the water.
Now, 28 years after he first started, Owen is at last preparing to set sail in his beloved boat, Wight Dolphin, with his long-suffering wife Anne. Owen said, “I am so relieved that it's finished. There were times when I thought it would never end but I'm the sort of person who likes to finish something once I've started.”
At first he persuaded his mum to let him do it in her garden and started taking in sheets of steel and pieces of wood. “My mother was happy for me to build it at her house but only because I told her it would only take five years.”
91. Why did Owen decide to make his own boat by himself

B. Owen retired early in order to make his boat
C. Owen's wife gave the boat the name of Wight Dolphin

Below are the four most famous bridges in the world.
Ponte Vecchio Bridge The Ponte Vecchio (literally "old bridge") is a bridge built in the Middle Ages over the Arno River in Florence, Italy, the only Florentine bridge to survive World War II. The bridge is unique for still having shops built along it, as was common in the days of the Medici. Butchers originally occupied souvenir sellers. It is said that the economic concept of bankruptcy originated here: when a merchant could not pay his debts, the table on which he sold his goods was physically broken by soldiers, and this practice was called "bancorotto (broken table)".
Golden Gate Bridge The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the strait between San Francisco and Marin County to the north. It is the masterwork of architect Joseph B. Strauss, whose statue graces the southern observation deck. The bridge took seven years to build, and was completed in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge used to be the longest suspension bridge span in the world. And today it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in San Francisco and California. Since its completion, the span length has been surpassed by eight other bridges. The famous red-orange color of the bridge was specifically chosen to make the bridge more easily visible through the thick frog that frequently covers the bridge.
Millau Bridge Started in 1998 and opened to traffic in 2005, the Millau Viaduct is a huge cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the river Tarn near Millau in southern France. It is the tallest highway bridge in the world, with the highest pylon's summit at 343 meters—slightly taller than the Eiffel Tower. The speed limit on the bridge was reduced from 130 km/h to 110 km/h because of traffic slowing down, due to tourists taking pictures of the bridge from the vehicles. Shortly after the bridge opened to traffic, passengers were stopping to admire the landscape and the bridge itself.
Charles bridge The Charles Bridge is a famous stone Gothic bridge that crosses the Vltava River in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the support of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava, the Charles Bridge was the most important connection between the Old Town and the area around Prague Castle. Connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. Today it is one of the most visited sights in Prague with painters, owners of kiosks and other traders alongside numerous tourists crossing the bridge.
95. Of the four bridges, which one has the shortest history
A. Ponte Vecchio. B. Golden Gate Bridge.
C. Millau Bridge. D. Charles Bridge.
96. Which of the following statements is TRUE about the Golden Gate Bridge
A. The span length ranks the 8th in the world.
B. Its color enables travelers to see it easily on foggy days.
C. It is the most popular tourist attraction in America.
D. It took Joseph B. Strauss 7 years to design the bridge.

A. it attracted many famous painters there
B. it was supported by Kin Charles IV
C. it was the only stone Gothic bridge crossing the Vltava River
D. it promoted the trade between Eastern and Western Europe

Small seating in the economy-class(经济舱) sections of airplanes is not just uncomfortable but potentially life-threatening. Space has become so tight that passengers cannot protect themselves in the event of a crash.
A report on a long distance flight from the doctors of Vienna stated that only 10% in economy class could adopt the recommended brace position on the plane's safety tips in case of emergency, and they were the smallest of the group. And 30% of their fellow passengers traveling in first class could adopt the position, which is internationally recognized as improving the chances of survival in the event of a crash. The authors of the report are now calling for greater space between seat rows to increase safety.
A spokesman for British Airways (BA), which is responsible for safety on all British planes, opposed the idea that small seating was a threat(威胁) to passengers. "We don't think it is a safety matter," he said, "We have high safety standards and all UK aircraft meet them." In the past month, both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic introduced sleeper seats, stressing the outstanding comfort in the front of the planes. But that space gained is space lost in economy.
Until recently, economy class was at least "bearable"—with an 86-centimeter seat. Scheduled Airlines such as BA and KLM gave passengers enough leg room and comfortable seats. But the arrival of new, weight-saving seats caused economy class to take a turn for the worse. Extra rows have been put into the plane, with the result that the average seat now is 79 centimetres. Singapore Airlines has become the latest carrier to narrow down its seats. It announced free wine for economy passengers last September, but at the same time reduced leg room by 8 centimetres.
Economy class on Scheduled Airlines is now often little better than economy on Qatar Airways. Some Qatar Airways even offer the chance to upgrade—at a price—to seats which, at 89-91 centimetres, are roomier than those of most Scheduled Airlines.
98. What can we learn from the passage
A. Scheduled Airlines produced new comfortable seats for economy class.
B. Doctors from Vienna said less space between seats could cause danger.
C. Spokesman for BA declared that narrow seat space was a threat.
D. Qatar Airways offered larger seats with no more charge.
99. What might be the author's attitude towards reducing the space of economy seats
A. Neutral. B. Sceptical. C. Supportive. D. Disapproving.
100. Where does the passage most probably come from
A. A biography. B. A book review.
C. A magazine. D. A realistic novel.
D
One and a half years ago, my friend and I separately received an invitation to our best friend's wedding. Then we both decided to go to the nearby town to attend the wedding and come back together. After the reception was over, we were waiting for a public transport bus to go back home. It was nine o'clock at night, and although many buses passed, none stopped.
We waited for an hour and were getting desperate. We wouldn't be able to stay overnight because it was weekday, and we both needed to work the next day. It was almost 10 p.m. when a family who had attended the same wedding passed by in their car. Probably sensing that we were waiting for some means of transport, they stopped and gave us a lift.
I was so touched by their kindness, and I expressed my gratitude to them.
When we reached my hometown, the family dropped us at the nearest point from where we could catch a shared taxi to get back to the spot where we had parked our bike. On the way, a laborer stopped the taxi. The driver saw his clothes and asked him whether he had money to pay the fare.
The laborer shook his head and said, "No".
On hearing this, the driver refused to take him.
I remembered my own trouble a few minutes earlier, and I told the driver to allow him to sit with us, as I would pay his fare. What an immediate opportunity to pass on the family's act of kindness! That night, I felt lightness in my heart, and I went to sleep happily and filled with joy about what I had gotten to do. How I wish this chain of kindness could continue all over the world with your help! That is why today I especially share my story with you!
101. How did the author and his friend get to their hometown
A. By taking a taxi. B. By walking.
C. With the help of a laborer. D. With the help of a family.
102. The reason why the driver permitted the laborer to get in at last is that .
A. the driver showed mercy on the laborer
B. the laborer finally agreed to pay his own fare
C. the author promised to pay the laborer's fare
D. the driver dislikes to take another passenger
103. The author writes the passage mainly in order to .
A. make such act of kindness spread in the world
B. make people remember a moving story forever
C. tell what shall people pay attention to in the wedding
D. tell how people should deal with the strangers on the way

I prefer my English classes to be taught in English only. What we all know, a good learning environment is of greatly importance if we want to study English well. Classes teaching in English provide students for a better environment. When English is an only language in class, students will have more opportunity to practise listening and speaking. However, there were problems with this method. Sometimes we may find difficult to follow the teacher and some slow learners may even give up learn English. In spite of these difficulties, but I believe practice makes perfect. With enough practice, we can overcome the difficulties and benefit from English classes in the long run.
