People usually do cleaning to have a comfortable place to live in. However, some mental(精神的) or physical health problems can make it difficult for people to clean up the mess. Luckily, Brogan Ingram, a 29-year-old psychology(心理学) student, is there to help.
Every weekend, Brogan helps people in her neighborhood clean their homes for free. "Someone may think cleaning is not important. But that's not true. A dirty home can give people a lot of stress and make easy things seem impossible. I hope my cleaning service can bring people some peace," Brogan said.
Four years ago, Brogan started making cleaning videos. Now, she has many followers online. She often tells them that it's important to do cleaning. But it's fine if they can't do the chores well. Just relax and take their time. She also brings the families meals, vegetables and fruit, and toys(玩偶) for their kids.
Brogan also gives advice on cleaning in her videos. "It's best to make a small habit of cleaning every day. Music can make the work more interesting," she said.

①My oldest child Annie is eight and Andy is six. I do well in teaching kids to do chores from a different perspective(角度) than someone who has fully-grown kids.
②What are my secrets(秘诀) Before you get excited to learn the secret, I need to tell—there's no actual secret.
③It all starts by you just picking a chore. Let's say I want to teach Annie about cleaning toilets(马桶). In the beginning, I take her with me while I do the chore. I show her step by step how to clean the toilet, so she knows how to do it. And also she knows what I expect the toilet to look like after cleaning. I'll do this for a few weeks.
④After a few weeks, I let her try cleaning the toilet on her own, with me there watching her. For another 4—5 weeks, we would do this and I only give a hand as needed. Then, I would let Annie do the cho re on her own. But that doesn't mean I cross it off my list(清单). If the chore isn't done in a right way, Annie will have to go back and do it again.
⑤Then what if my children don't want to do a chore Well, if they don't finish a chore, then there will not be snacks for them after the meal. If they want them, they will do their chores. And that works.
⑥There might be a cho re that cannot wait. I will do it, but my children have to pay me from their own money to do the job. The money goes into my Mad Mommy Money fund(used mostly for chocolate and cookbooks).
20.What is the right order(顺序) of the mother's teaching way
①Letting Annie do the chore by herself.
②Showing Annie how to do the chore.
③ Watching Annie do the chore.
A. ①②③ B. ①③② C. ②③① D. ②①③
21.What will happen to the kids if they don't do a chore
A. They can't eat their favorite chocolate.
B. They have no snacks to eat after the meal.
C. They can't get paid for the chores they do.
D. They have to buy some cookbooks themselves.
22.Who should be the readers of the passage
A. Children. B. Experts. C. Writers. D. Parents.
23.Which of the following shows the structure(结构) of the passage
A. ①②③④/⑤⑥ B. ①②/③④⑤/⑥ C. ①/②/③④/⑤⑥ D. ①/②③/④⑤⑥
C
Do teenagers in small villages do chores at home How about the teenagers in big cities To know the answers, we made a survey last month. We asked 4,000 teenagers in China. Half of them come from big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The others are from small villages. We made a diagram(图表) according to our survey. Here is the diagram showing the results.
We can find out that teenagers in small villages do more chores than those in big cities. Maybe it is because they live a harder life. We will give our advice to parents in big cities. We think parents should give their children some chores to do because it's a good chance for teenagers to learn how to take care of themselves.

38.Can you cook by yourself Do you like the homework of making a meal These days, primary and middle school students are required to take the Practical Activity Class(实践活动课)at least one class hour every week. The topic of cooking was discussed mostly by parents and students. Learning practical skills plays an important role in shaping a person s character for sure.
Some schools and students have already practiced their practical activities. Gu Quan, 13 years old, from No.18 Middle School, used to be a lazy boy. In his own words, he hardly ever did any housework. But things have changed since No.18 Middle School made housework part of its students homework. Doing the dishes, cooking and making the bed... All of these tasks have become part of Gu Quan s daily life.
At the beginning of each month, every student gets a list of housework to do every weekend. Their parents help them keep a record of their performance. The tasks are common and simple in daily life, such as sweeping the floor, washing cups and cooking food. On holidays like Mother s Day, students should prepare presents for their mothers. Huang Yixi, 14, has learned several life kills, including cooking. “I used to be afraid of fire,” she said. But she managed to overcome her fear and complete her cooking tasks. At the same time, she also learned how tired her mother gets after doing housework every day. On Mother s Day, she made a cake for her mother to show her thanks. “I ve begun to better understand my parents and want to help them more,” she said.

39.【答案】Dear Wang Lei,
How are you going these days I have different ideas about doing housework. I think we students should do housework at home. I help my parents do housework every day. It s useful and meaningful to do housework.
Here are my reasons. First, if we often do housework, we can often use our hands and brains. This can make us smarter. Second, doing chores can help us learn some basic life skills, such as cooking and doing the dishes. It s necessary for us to learn how to take good care of ourselves. Most importantly, helping with housework can give our parents a break from their busy work. In this way, they can have more time to relax.
I hope you can enjoy doing housework from now on.
Yours,
Joe
