Kids stood at a middle school waiting for a motorcycle to appear. Even after the school bell rang (响), they stood still, hoping that the two - wheeler would turn up soon.
Poo vara san, the librarian(图书管理员), has a wish : He wants to reach the children as quickly as possible. The wish to reach the school before the last bell is written on his face . On the motorcycle, kids won't miss the backpack(箱). As he arrived, children all ran to him . With a big smile, he opened the cover of his backpack ,letting the happiness fill the air. The books in it were given to them every 15 days free of cost.
The story behind this began in 2006. After Poo vara san gave up his job as an engineer , he turned to social work and started Regenboog India Foundation, an NGO(非政府组织) . He found that children from poor villages could hardly have enough books to read.
So, the mobile library was started in 2008. The beginnings were hard. They carried books in vegetable baskets to the schools,and later brought in an old motorcycle.Today,the NGO has four librarians to give out books. It also uses a small car to get to readers in 100 schools. The children discuss the stories they read, and they seem to be finding many worlds through the books.
In these schools, each student is provided with an ID and can borrow two books at a time , and the books should be returned in 15 days. For those finishing 10 books, one book is given for free. That is just enough time to travel around the world, meet new friends and come back in time for Poo vara san's return.
