Retell the passage about China’s sea exploration over time. You are supposed to pay attention to the structure and use the words and expressions in the passage.
Retelling
In ancient times, silk from China found its way along what became known as the Silk Road. A trading route across the sea was extended along the coasts of the Indian Ocean, centered around Ceylon, where merchants from China and many other places met to negotiate trade deals. Between 1405 and 1433, seven large fleets, which were in a league of their own, under the command of Zheng He, set sail west on voyages of trade and explorations. Although China withdrew from further expeditions, these land and sea routes remained active channels between other cultures for long.
To reach out across the sea remains a strong desire today. The Belt and Road Initiative has been proposed, encouraging cooperation and strengthening the bonds between China and the world. Trading has grown greatly in China, and there is still an urgent need to study other important projects, which will drive China to reach out across the sea far into the future.

Group discussion:

Critical thinking
China’s sea exploration not only reflects the progress of human mind over time, but also demonstrate the fact that China is much stronger today than ever before. From expeditions for trading goods and making awareness of other cultures, to international cooperation and scientific research for the shared future of mankind, China is much more involved in international affairs and shoulders much greater responsibility for mankind.
1. What do you think is the significance of China’s reaching out across the sea
A student’s answer
2. What do you think is the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative
The Belt and Road Initiative is an “economic pie” that benefits the local population. Cooperation and trade across the historical Silk Road areas are encouraged and enhanced, and the bonds between China and the rest of the world are strengthened as well, which will lead to greater integration with China and other countries, in the hope of building a community of a shared future for mankind and achieve win-win development.
