Passage(1)
A beautiful piece of music was playing on the radio. I did
not know what it was, and I started listening carefully, but then I noticed my mind wandering as if to own the music.
It was like it was not enough for me just to enjoy the moment. I needed to memorize, understand, and analyze what
I was hearing to capture that moment. And in doing this, I was no longer enjoying it. What stopped me from
enjoying the music
In asking that question, I remembered the humanistic psychologist Erich Fromm. In his classic book To
Have or To Be he wrote about “having” and “being” as two different mindsets or attitudes towards life. Fromm
described how having was a dominant cultural mindset and ultimately at the root of many of our personal and
social problems.
The having mindset is so deeply ingrained within us that it can take over and push our being out of the way.
The having mindset raises an essential problem for humanity. Fromm writes about how it comes from our
materialistic culture in which having as a mindset is prioritized over a being mindset.
It often seems that most of us treat life as if we were just playing a giant game of Monopoly (大富翁) in real
time. Who can collect the most wealth and property and exploit (剥削) the other players It is a game in which we
learn to value only what brings us monetary gain. We truly need so little in the way of material things to be
contented in life. We need a sense of purpose, meaning, relationships, good health, and the resources to be safe and
secure.
It feels like we have no choice but to live as if we were the pieces on a Monopoly board. But we can be
aware of the choices we make in life and begin to adjust our lives either down the path of having or being. That
way, we can learn to enjoy a piece of music without needing to buy it, go for a walk, and appreciate the wildflowers
without picking them.
1.What can be inferred about the author from the first paragraph
A.He didn’t like music. B.He liked analyzing music occasionally.
C.He failed to enjoy the music. D.He listened to music casually.
2.What does the underlined word “ingrained” in Paragraph 3 mean
1 / 36
A.Rooted. B.Affected. C.Imagined. D.Discovered.
3.What’s the author’s attitude towards “having” mindset
A.Interested. B.Opposed. C.Positive. D.Unconcerned.
4.What does the author advise us to do
A.Play the game of Monopoly. B.Change our mindsets in life.
C.Aim high and seek your fortune. D.Find life purpose and help others.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.B
I did not know what it was, and I started listening carefully, but then I noticed my
mind wandering as if to own the music. It was like it was not enough for me just to enjoy the moment. I needed to
memorize, understand, and analyze what I was hearing to capture that moment. And in doing this, I was no longer
The having mindset is so deeply ingrained within us that it can take over and push
our being out of the way.(“拥有”心态在我们内心如此 ingrained,以至于它可以占据主导地位,把我们的“存在”
是固定句型,that 引导结果状语从句,由“it can take over and push our being out
故选 A 项。
Fromm described how having was a dominant cultural mindset and ultimately at
the root of many of our personal and social problems.(弗洛姆描述了“拥有”是一种占主导地位的文化心态,并且
The having mindset raises an essential problem for
humanity.(“拥有”心态给人类带来了一个根本性的问题)”和最后一段中“That way, we can learn to enjoy a piece
of music without needing to buy it, go for a walk, and appreciate the wildflowers without picking them.(这样,我们
But we can be aware of the choices we make in life and begin to adjust our lives
either down the path of having or being. That way, we can learn to enjoy a piece of music without needing to
buy it, go for a walk, and appreciate the wildflowers without picking them.(但是我们可以意识到我们在生活中所
Passage(2)
Most have probably heard of Henry David Thoreau and his
book Walden, even though his message of simplicity may sound outdated. Nowadays, smartphones flood us with
text messages. Many consumers are buying the latest digital devices, from tablets and fitness trackers to
commercial drones. Simple living seems to be a thing of the past.
Thoreau would beg to differ. As a writer who advocated the value of simplicity almost two centuries ago, he
was a contrarian (叛逆者) for his time. He lived during the height of the Industrial Age, distinguished by the rise of
large factories, expanding urban developments, and powerful machines.
Turned off by the constant busyness of this time, Thoreau withdrew from city life to live alone in the woods.
He brought with him only the necessities of life and wrote about this adventure in his book Walden. In the book,
Thoreau is basically making a philosophical statement. We are not living meaningful lives due to modern
technology. We created powerful machines to make life more convenient. Unfortunately, these machines have done
the opposite. In his words, “men have become the tools of their tools”.
That is to say, we are not the ones controlling technology. Technology is controlling us. Every few minutes,
smartphones may distract us with messages. At least half of Americans check their phones several times an hour.
Meanwhile, information overload from social media can weaken our concentration and heighten confusion.
When technology causes that much distraction and confusion, it may be healthy to simplify life by reducing
technology overuse. Personally, I’ve done so in two ways. First, I use very little data on my phone and keep the
apps on it to a minimum. Most time, I only use my phone to call or text. Second, I quit most social media. Sure,
those two things aren’t as extreme as Thoreau withdrawing into the woods. Nevertheless, they’re realistic moves I
can make toward living a more meaningful life.
5.Why does the author refer to Thoreau’s book Walden in Paragraph1
A.To tell the characters of Thoreau. B.To attract more consumers.
3 / 36
C.To bring in the concept of simple life. D.To discuss the advantage of smartphones.
6.What might drive Thoreau to live in the woods
A.The purpose to keep fit. B.His plan of writing a book.
C.The pace of his time. D.His worry about technology.
7.What is the author’s attitude to Thoreau’s words “men have become the tools of their tools”
A.Tolerant. B.Doubtful. C.Approving. D.Critical.
8.What is the author’s main argument in this text
A.Modern technology improves our lives. B.Simplicity in a way helps live a meaningful life.
C.We should withdraw from modern society. D.Powerful machines are necessary for progress.
Most have probably heard of Henry David Thoreau and his book Walden, even
though his message of simplicity may sound outdated. Nowadays, smartphones flood us with text messages. Many
consumers are buying the latest digital devices, from tablets and fitness trackers to commercial drones. Simple
living seems to be a thing of the past.
Turned off by the constant busyness of this time, Thoreau withdrew from city
life to live alone in the woods.
That is to say, we are not the ones controlling technology. Technology is
controlling us. Every few minutes, smartphones may distract us with messages. At least half of Americans check
their phones several times an hour. Meanwhile, information overload from social media can weaken our
concentration and heighten confusion.
Many consumers are buying the latest digital devices, from
4 / 36
tablets and fitness trackers to commercial drones. Simple living seems to be a thing of the past.
When technology causes that much distraction and confusion, it may be healthy to simplify life by
reducing technology overuse.
Passage(3)
In today’s interconnected world, maintaining personal independence
is more important than ever. While cooperating with and relying on others are essential aspects of modern life, an
overdependence on external (外部的) systems, technology, or individuals can gradually destroy autonomy, kill
personal growth, and compromise one’s ability to deal with challenges.
First, independence develops self-reliance and adaptability. In a rapidly changing world, individuals must
adapt to unexpected circumstances, from economic downturns (衰退)to technological disruptions. For example,
someone who has developed financial knowledge and self-sufficiency is better equipped to handle economic
challenges than someone who relies entirely on others for support. Independence enables individuals to take control
of their lives and make informed decisions without being overly influenced by external forces.
Second, independence promotes personal growth and self-fulfillment. Relying too much on others can limit
one’s opportunities to explore, take risks, and learn from mistakes. When individuals independently pursue their
goals and passions, they gain confidence, skills, and a sense of purpose. For example, starting a personal project or
business without external backing challenges people to innovate and think critically, developing creativity and
problem-solving abilities.
Maintaining independence protects individuality and personal identity in a world where conformity (遵从) is
often encouraged. Social media and cultural trends can pressure individuals to agree with popular opinions or adopt
popular lifestyles, potentially hiding their true selves. Independence allows people to form their own beliefs, values,
and priorities, making them more empowered to contribute uniquely to society.
Critics might argue that independence risks isolation or the loss of community values. However,
independence does not prevent cooperation or meaningful relationships. In fact, truly independent individuals often
bring more value to relationships because they contribute from a place of strength and confidence rather than
dependency.
Maintaining independence in today’s society is vital for personal growth. While mutual support and
5 / 36
interdependence are valuable, they should not come at the cost of autonomy. Keeping a balance between
cooperation and independence ensures individuals can thrive in an ever-evolving world.
9.Who may handle economic challenges better according to Paragraph 2
A.People depending on themselves.
B.People making innovative decisions.
C.People influenced by external forces.
D.People relying on unexpected settings.
10.Why does independence matter in a world encouraging conformity
A.It makes people form common beliefs.
B.It allows people to maintain self-hood.
C.It enables people to lead cultural trends.
D.It helps people develop their intelligence.
11.Which can best describe an independent person in relationships
A.Confident and helpful. B.Isolated and indifferent.
C.Cooperative and proud. D.Critical and autonomous.
12.How is the passage mainly developed
A.By inferring and comparing. B.By showing cause and effect.
C.By giving opinions and examples. D.By stating problems and solutions.
【答案】9.A 10.B 11.A 12.C
For example, someone who has developed financial knowledge and
self-sufficiency is better equipped to handle economic challenges than someone who relies entirely on others for
support.
故选 A。
Maintaining independence protects individuality and personal identity in a world
Independence allows people to form their own beliefs, values, and priorities, making them more
empowered to contribute uniquely to society.
However, independence does not prevent cooperation or meaningful
relationships. In fact, truly independent individuals often bring more value to relationships because they contribute
from a place of strength and confidence rather than dependency.( 然而,独立并不妨碍合作或有意义的关系。
故选 A。
While cooperating with and relying on others are essential aspects of modern life,
an overdependence on external (外部的) systems, technology, or individuals can gradually destroy autonomy, kill
personal growth, and compromise one’s ability to deal with challenges.(虽然与他人合作和依赖他人是现代生活
For example, someone who has developed financial knowledge and self-sufficiency is
better equipped to handle economic challenges than someone who relies entirely on others for support.
Independence enables individuals to take control of their lives and make informed decisions without being overly
For example, starting a personal project or business without external backing challenges people to innovate and
Passage(4)
If you could take a pill to “cure” your loneliness,
would you take it The “loneliness epidemic (流行病)” has been widely reported and commented upon across the
world in recent years, affecting young and old. There have even been numerous urgent calls by governments to
address it. However, some researchers question whether we really have the credible data to back up such claims.
Should we struggle to eradicate it, as we would a virus or a disease
Psychologist James Hillman had concerns about viewing loneliness as a pathology (病理学). He noted that
7 / 36
solutions like socializing in recovery groups suggest we should get rid of loneliness. But Hillman argued that if
loneliness is a natural part of us, it will naturally come and go throughout our lives, regardless of our efforts to
avoid it.
I have spent much of my career researching loneliness, conducting hundreds of interviews and observing its
many versions across all ages. My findings suggest that loneliness is not a single feeling but a label for a range of
human experiences and unmet needs related to disconnection, which may be inevitable at times. In my book All the
Lonely People: Conversations on Loneliness, I present various examples of loneliness, drawn from numerous
projects and interviews, each offering a glimpse into different aspects of this condition.
Stories help us identify what loneliness looks like and how it is lived. They also show that loneliness is part
of most people’ s life journeys. Accepting this reality may be more sensible than pathologizing it, which can create
shame and force people to hide their loneliness.
This is not to ignore loneliness, which is challenging and difficult. But stories allow us to share our
loneliness, unburden ourselves, and connect with others. The suffering in loneliness often originates from being
alone with it. Ultimately, the answer to loneliness may lie in learning to live alongside it, rather than denying its
existence or trying to root it out.
13.What does the underlined word “eradicate” most probably mean
A.Remove. B.Change. C.Highlight. D.Identify.
14.What is the author’s research approach to studying loneliness
A.Observing physical responses in trials. B.Collecting a variety or typical cases
C.Reviewing published research papers. D.Taking a questionnaire survey analysis.
15.What is the main purpose of the author sharing “stories”
A.To inform how loneliness varies with age. B.To emphasize the importance of storytelling.
C.To show complexities of human loneliness. D.To express his sympathy for the suffering.
16.What is the author’s suggestion for the issue of loneliness
A.Overcome it by staying busy. B.Engage with social activities.
C.Coexist peacefully with it. D.Turn to experts for guidance.
【答案】13.A 14.B 15.C 16.C
根据划线词上文“If you could take a pill to “cure” your loneliness, would you take it (如果你
8 / 36
和下文“...as we would a virus or a disease (就像我们对付病毒
故选 A。
I have spent much of my career researching loneliness, conducting hundreds of
interviews and observing its many versions across all ages. My findings suggest that loneliness is not a single
feeling but a label for a range of human experiences and unmet needs related to disconnection, which may be
inevitable at times. In my book All the Lonely People: Conversations on Loneliness, I present various examples of
loneliness, drawn from numerous projects and interviews, each offering a glimpse into different aspects of this
condition.

Stories help us identify what loneliness looks like and how it is lived. They also
show that loneliness is part of most people’ s life journeys. Accepting this reality may be more sensible than
pathologizing it, which can create shame and force people to hide their loneliness.
Ultimately, the answer to loneliness may lie in learning to live alongside it,
rather than denying its existence or trying to root it out.
Passage(5)
The telephone has been used for over 100 years,
allowing us to chat with our friends happily while we’re doing dishes. But there are many young people for whom
the idea of answering a phone call is like being trapped underwater. If the only way to survive that imaginary
situation were to answer the ringing phone, they might give up.
Many never answer such a call for fear of the unknown. Some understandably don’t answer the phone
9 / 36
because some calls are unnecessarily time-consuming and the information can better be communicated through text
or email, and sometimes people who enjoy talking on the phone tend to use it as a platform for awkwardly
drawn-out and too personal conversations.
This fear goes beyond all that, and many are afraid even if the incoming phone call is totally innocent. A
recent survey has found that most young people show anxiety before making a phone call. What is going on here
When talking on the phone, a person typically has to respond live and may not be mentally prepared enough
to put a carefully-worded response together, a prospect which is even more difficult when talking to someone you
don’t know. In young people’s world filled with their preferred emails and instant messages, a phone call feels like
an arrow shooting through the boundary and buffer (缓冲) such forms of communication normally afford them.
Many think phone calls should be made for urgent and serious issues, but I’d argue that line of thinking is
complicated in nature. Those kinds of emergency calls are rare, and when you think that’s what phone calls should
be made for, you tend to see them all that way. But the phone call, properly made and timed, is meant to negotiate
that line when other options are unavailable, and provides a different kind of closeness and familiarity.
So if the phone starts ringing in front of you, try picking it up, which will give you strength to deal with
other scary unknowns. Besides, you can always respond with one pleasure; hanging up.
17.What is the imaginary situation in paragraph 1 intended to show
A.Pleasure from interacting with others on the phone.
B.Young people’s unwillingness to answer the phone.
C.The terrible consequence of answering a phone call.
D.The reason why young people advocate phone calls.
18.Why do young people prefer the use of emails according to the text
A.It doesn’t require live responses. B.It can boost their critical thinking.
C.It better reveals their true emotions. D.It is able to break many boundaries.
19.Which of the following shows the author’s opinion on phone calls
A.They are likely to be prior to other options.
B.They had better be avoided among strangers.
C.They should always be a signal of serious issues.
D.They are not necessarily reserved for emergencies.
20.Which of the following is the best title for the text
10 / 36
A.Should Young People Give Up Their Phones
B.Are Young People Ready to Make a Phone Call
C.Why Are Young People Frightened of Phone Calls
D.How Can Young People Overcome Phone Anxiety
【答案】17.B 18.A 19.D 20.C
But there are many young people for whom the idea of answering a phone
call is like being trapped underwater. If the only way to survive that imaginary situation were to answer the ringing
phone, they might give up.(但对于许多年轻人来说,接听电话的念头就如同被困在水下。
When talking on the phone, a person typically has to respond live and may not
be mentally prepared enough to put a carefully-worded response together, a prospect which is even more difficult
when talking to someone you don’t know. In young people’s world filled with their preferred emails and instant
messages, a phone call feels like an arrow shooting through the boundary and buffer (缓冲) such forms of
故选 A。
Many think phone calls should be made for urgent and serious issues, but I’d
argue that line of thinking is complicated in nature. Those kinds of emergency calls are rare, and when you think
that’s what phone calls should be made for, you tend to see them all that way. But the phone call, properly made
and timed, is meant to negotiate that line when other options are unavailable, and provides a different kind of
But there are many young people for whom the idea of answering a phone call
is like being trapped underwater. If the only way to survive that imaginary situation were to answer the ringing
phone, they might give up.(但对于许多年轻人来说,接听电话的念头就如同被困在水下。
C“Why Are
Young People Frightened of Phone Calls ”能很好地概括文章主要内容。故选 C。
Passage(6)
Since the industrial revolution, there have been concerns that new
machines would replace human jobs. Today, this fear is becoming a reality as robots and artificial intelligence (AI)
are advancing into various job sectors.
According to a March 2023 Gold man sacks report, AI could do a quarter of all the work currently done by
humans. In the EU and US alone, 300 million jobs might be at risk due to automation. Author Martin Ford warns
that this shift could be systematic, affecting many people in the meantime with potential widespread economic
applications.
However, not all hope is lost. There remain areas where human qualities, such as emotional intelligence and
creative thinking, are indispensable. Jobs in three categories are likely to be more secure against AI:
1. Truly creative role, especially those in science, medicine, law, and business strategy. While some creative
fields like graphic design may be vulnerable to ad, others that involve coming up with novel ideas will still need
humans.
2. Positions requiring complicated interpersonal skills, including nursing, consulting, and investigative
journalism. These jobs demand a deep understanding of human relationships, which AI cannot easily copy.
3. occupations needing mobility, proficiency, and problem-solving skill in unpredictable environments, such
as trade jobs. Electricians, plumbers, and welders (焊工) face situations that constantly change, making these roles
challenging for automation.
Ford emphasized that neither advanced education nor high-income positions guarantee safety from ad.
White-collar workers, who often write reports or analyze data, may find their jobs more threatened by AI than less
educated workers in physically demanding roles, like cleaning hotel rooms, which are harder to automate.
In conclusion, seeking employment in dynamic environments that involve unpredictable tasks can help
safeguard against job loss to AI, at least for now. For students preparing for their future careers, it’s wise to
12 / 36
consider fields that emphasize creativity, human interaction, and adaptability in complex settings.
21.What can we learn from the report in paragraphs
A.A significant number of jobs may be affected by AI.
B.Automation will create more jobs than it re moves.
C.The effect of ad on employment will be mild.
D.only low-skill jobs will be replaced by artificial intelligence.
22.Which of the following jobs is considered more secure against AI replacement
A.Graphic design. B.Data analysis.
C.Report writing. D.Investigative journalism.
23.What does Martin Ford stress about the impact of ad on employment
A.It will not affect the high-paying jobs.
B.It could primarily replace uneducated workers.
C.It could pose a less threat to the physically demanding jobs.
D.It will probably not influence white-collar jobs.
24.What suggestion does the passage provide for the students regarding the future career
A.To focus on careers that require routine and predictable tasks.
B.To seek employment only within dynamic and rapidly changing industries.
C.To consider occupations that highlight innovation, communication and adaptability.
D.To avoid any jobs that could potentially be affected by automation.
【答案】21.A 22.D 23.C 24.C
According to a March 2023 Gold man sacks report, AI could do a quarter of
all the work currently done by humans. In the EU and US alone, 300 million jobs might be at risk due to
automation.
故选 A。
Positions requiring complicated interpersonal skills, including nursing,
13 / 36
consulting, and investigative journalism. These jobs demand a deep understanding of human relationships, which
AI cannot easily copy.
White-collar workers, who often write reports or analyze data, may find
their jobs more threatened by AI than less educated workers in physically demanding roles, like cleaning hotel
rooms, which are harder to automate.
For students preparing for their future careers, it’s wise to consider fields that
emphasize creativity, human interaction, and adaptability in complex settings.
Passage(7)
Americans spend more on lottery (彩票)
tickets than movies, video games, and concerts combined. Leading the way are the lowest-income households,
which spend an estimated $412 each year, four times the amount spent by the highest-income households. As
financial writer Morgan Housel describes in his 2022 book, The Psychology of Money, “without $400 for an
emergency, low-income lottery players are blowing their safety nets on something with a one-in-millions chance of
making a fortune. While a player may occasionally get lucky, the more they play over lotteries, the likelier it is that
their monetary losses will reach the intended average.”
So why do those living under the worst conditions spend so much more on them The financial knowledge
might explain that this behavior is born purely of ignorance, but Housel and scientific researchers point to
alternative psychological explanations. They highlighted the inequalities present in the U. S. and noted that
low-income players may consider lotteries to be a “social equalizer” which creates hope for material improvement
and a higher social status that cannot be achieved through conventional channels.
Is it really so ridiculous that a person laboring for 50 hours a week making $20 an hour would spend $10 a
week on lottery tickets to, at least for a moment, entertain the dream of becoming rich A millionaire choosing to
spend a tenth of their savings on a speedboat is arguably making a worse financial decision. The same could be said
14 / 36
of an office worker making $100,000 a year spending S200 each week to dine out wastefully.
As Housel points out in his book, the numerous ways we can spend our money, and even the modern
monetary system itself, have only been around for no more than decades. Our slow-to-adapt thinking systems are
not well-prepared for making solid financial decisions in a rapidly changing world.
“We all do crazy things with money because we' re all relatively new to this game and what looks crazy to
you might make sense to me,” Housel wrote. “But no one is crazy. We all make decisions based on our own unique
experiences that seem to make sense to us in a given moment.”
25.What can be inferred from Paragraph 1
A.Those who earn more spend more on lottery tickets.
B.Americans like playing the lottery tickets best.
C.Low-income households can’t afford to spend money on lottery tickets.
D.Those who place expectations on lottery tickets may lose hope at last.
26.According to Housel, what accounts for the popularity of lottery tickets among low-income players
A.They want to fight against inequality.
B.They lack a sense of financial management.
C.They can have anticipation for better life.
D.They need entertainment to meet psychological demands.
27.Why are a millionaire and an office worker mentioned in Paragraph 3
A.To justify the consumption of lottery tickets.
B.To make a contrast between different spending patterns.
C.To emphasize the misuse of money in distinct areas.
D.To showcase their financial decisions on distributing money.
28.What’s Housel’s attitude towards the low-income lottery players
A.Dismissive. B.Admiring. C.Critical. D.Tolerant.
【答案】25.D 26.C 27.A 28.D
Leading the way are the lowest-income households, which spend an estimated $
412 each year, four times the amount spent by the highest-income households. As financial writer Morgan Housel
15 / 36
describes in his 2022 book, The Psychology of Money, “without $400 for an emergency, low-income lottery
players are blowing their safety nets on something with a one-in-millions chance of making a fortune. While a
player may occasionally get lucky, the more they play over lotteries, the likelier it is that their monetary losses will
reach the intended average.”
They highlighted the inequalities present in the U.S. and noted that low-income
players may consider lotteries to be a ‘social equalizer’ which creates hope for material improvement and a higher
social status that cannot be achieved through conventional channels.
Is it really so ridiculous that a person laboring for 50 hours a week making 10 a
week on lottery tickets to, at least for a moment, entertain the dream of becoming rich A millionaire choosing to
spend a tenth of their savings on a speedboat is arguably making a worse financial decision. The same could be said
of an office worker making 200 each week to dine out wastefully”(一个人每周工作 50 个小时,每小时赚 20 美元,
故选 A。
We all do crazy things with money because we're all relatively new to this game
and what looks crazy to you might make sense to me,” Housel wrote. “But no one is crazy. We all make decisions
based on our own unique experiences that seem to make sense to us in a given moment.”
Passage(8)
Melancholy and suicidal ideations have experienced a twofold
increase among the youthful populace of America, as per a recent investigation promulgated by the American
Psychological Association.
What are the probable catalysts for this alarming trend The ubiquitous presence of cell phones and the
pervasive influence of social media are identified as likely culprits.
“An augmented number of US adolescents and young adults in the latter part of the 2010s, in
contradistinction to those in the mid-2000s, have grappled with significant psychological turmoil, severe depressive
episodes, and a heightened incidence of suicide attempts,” opines Jean Twenge, the principal investigator and a
professor of psychology at San Diego State University. “These escalating patterns are either feeble or entirely
absent among individuals aged 26 and above, thereby intimating a generational metamorphosis in the prevalence of
mood disorders rather than a uniform augmentation across the entire spectrum of ages.”
Twenge postulates that this disconcerting trend is partially attributable to the meteoric rise of digital culture
over the preceding decade, which may have distorted the modalities of social engagement to such an extent that it
has had a palpable impact on the incidence of mood disorders.
The study meticulously scrutinized data derived from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, which
meticulously monitored drug and alcohol consumption alongside mental health concerns in an extensive cohort of
over 200,000 youths, aged between 12 and 17, from the year 2005 to 2017, and nearly 400,000 adults from 2008 to
2017.
The prevalence of major depression within the preceding 12-month period escalated by a staggering 52
percent among children from 2005 to 2017 and by 63 percent among young adults in the age bracket of 18 to 25
from 2009 to 2017. Additionally, there was a precipitous 71 percent rise in young adults experiencing grave
psychological distress within the antecedent 30-day span from 2008 to 2017.
So, what distinguishes the present epoch from those that preceded it According to Twenge, empirical
research indicates that the younger generation is not availing themselves of as much somnolent repose as their
forebears did.
While older Americans may have achieved a greater degree of stability in their lives, the digital era has
likely precipitated a peak in sleep-disrupting social stressors for teenagers and young adults, she posits. Moreover,
17 / 36
older adults are comparatively less prone to permit electronic devices to interfere with their nocturnal slumber.
These findings underscore the exigency for further research to comprehend the differential impact of digital
communication vis-à-vis face-to-face social interaction on mood disorders and to devise targeted interventions
tailored to the unique needs of younger demographic cohorts.
As for her sage advice She advocates for the cessation of phone usage at least one hour prior to the onset of
bedtime.
29.What might Professor Twenge agree with?
A.Mood disorders show no difference across all ages.
B.Teens are less likely to let devices interfere with sleep.
C.Digital cultural explosion might cause depression in teens.
D.The past decade has seen a sharp decrease in teens mental disorders.
30.How is Paragraph 6 developed?
A.By stating facts. B.By giving examples.
C.By providing statistics. D.By presenting theories.
31.What do the underlined words “social stressors” in Para 8 mean?
A.Interaction modes. B.Mental health issues.
C.Drug and alcohol use. D.Cell phones and social media.
32.From which is the text probably taken?
A.A biology textbook. B.A medical case.
C.A travel guidebook. D.A science magazine.
Twenge postulates that this disconcerting trend is partially attributable to the
meteoric rise of digital culture over the preceding decade, which may have distorted the modalities of social
engagement to such an extent that it has had a palpable impact on the incidence of mood disorders.(特温格认为,这
The prevalence of major depression within the preceding 12-month period
escalated by a staggering 52 percent among children from 2005 to 2017 and by 63 percent among young adults in
the age bracket of 18 to 25 from 2009 to 2017. Additionally, there was a precipitous 71 percent rise in young adults
experiencing grave psychological distress within the antecedent 30-day span from 2008 to 2017.(从 2005 年到 2017
根据“...the digital era has likely precipitated a peak in sleep-disrupting social stressors for
teenagers and young adults...(……
……)” Moreover, older adults are comparatively less prone to permit electronic devices to interfere
with their nocturnal slumber.(此外,老年人相对来说不太容易让电子设备干扰他们的夜间睡眠。)”
Melancholy and suicidal ideations have experienced a twofold increase among
the youthful populace of America, as per a recent investigation promulgated by the American Psychological

Last week witnessed huge success of our school's English Week themed “Embrace English, Show
Ourselves”.
Among the many events, the one that has left a lasting impression on me is the “English Drama Night”.
Students from different classes grouped together to perform English plays, ranging from classic Shakespearean
tragedies to contemporary pieces. I was not only impressed by my fellow students’ excellent command of the
English language, but also deeply moved by their vivid portrayal of the characters.
The week serves as a reminder that learning English is not just about mastering grammar and vocabulary. It

1 / 18
A.Rooted. B.Affected. C.Imagined. D.Discovered.
3.What’s the author’s attitude towards “having” mindset
A.Interested. B.Opposed. C.Positive. D.Unconcerned.
4.What does the author advise us to do
A.Play the game of Monopoly. B.Change our mindsets in life.
C.Aim high and seek your fortune. D.Find life purpose and help others.
2 / 18
However,
3 / 18
independence does not prevent cooperation or meaningful relationships. In fact, truly independent individuals often
bring more value to relationships because they contribute from a place of strength and confidence rather than
dependency.
Maintaining independence in today’s society is vital for personal growth. While mutual support and
interdependence are valuable, they should not come at the cost of autonomy.

He noted that
4 / 18
solutions like socializing in recovery groups suggest we should get rid of loneliness.
Passage(5)
The telephone has been used for over 100 years,
allowing us to chat with our friends happily while we’re doing dishes. But there are many young people for whom
5 / 18
the idea of answering a phone call is like being trapped underwater. If the only way to survive that imaginary
situation were to answer the ringing phone, they might give up.
Many never answer such a call for fear of the unknown. Some understandably don’t answer the phone
because some calls are unnecessarily time-consuming and the information can better be communicated through text
or email, and sometimes people who enjoy talking on the phone tend to use it as a platform for awkwardly
drawn-out and too personal conversations.
6 / 18
C.They should always be a signal of serious issues.
D.They are not necessarily reserved for emergencies.
20.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.Should Young People Give Up Their Phones
B.Are Young People Ready to Make a Phone Call
C.Why Are Young People Frightened of Phone Calls
D.How Can Young People Overcome Phone Anxiety
7 / 18
safeguard against job loss to AI, at least for now. For students preparing for their future careers, it’s wise to
consider fields that emphasize creativity, human interaction, and adaptability in complex settings.
8 / 18
might explain that this behavior is born purely of ignorance, but Housel and scientific researchers point to
alternative psychological explanations.
The same could be said
of an office worker making $100,000 a year spending S200 each week to dine out wastefully.
9 / 18
28.What’s Housel’s attitude towards the low-income lottery players
A.Dismissive. B.Admiring. C.Critical. D.Tolerant.

While older Americans may have achieved a greater degree of stability in their lives, the digital era has
10 / 18
likely precipitated a peak in sleep-disrupting social stressors for teenagers and young adults, she posits. Moreover,
older adults are comparatively less prone to permit electronic devices to interfere with their nocturnal slumber.
