Passage(1)
【2025 届山东省日照市高三下学期一模】When Madhvi Chittoor of Arvada, Colo., learned at the age of 6
that PFAS are found in all sorts of consumer products, she wanted to warn everyone. So she started with one person:
Colorado state senator (参议员) Lisa Cutter, a strong advocate for the environment. Cutter agreed to meet, and in
2021 she sat down with Madhvi at a bakery — Panera.
They talked about how PFAS, a group of manufactured chemicals used in consumer products since the 1940s,
have made their way into drinking water, soil, food products, and the air. Studies have found that exposure to
certain levels of PFAS can lead to negative developmental effects in children, increased risk of some cancers and
reduced immune function. Cutter already knew a little about PFAS but not enough to push her toward drafting a bill
about them. Madhvi, she says, “really planted the seed.”
The following year, Cutter went on to sponsor a PFAS bill that bans “intentionally added” PFAS in a wide
range of consumer goods. In order to have the bill passed, Madhvi testified (作证) at the state Capitol and spent
months emailing with Governor Jared Polis. After the bill passed, Polis recognized Madhvi’s hard work, inviting
her to the bill signing in 2022.
It was not the first time that Cutter and Madhvi worked together. In 2021, after Cutter proposed a measure to
ban single-use plastic bags in major retail stores and plastic-foam containers in restaurants, Madhvi advocated for
that bill too — speaking with city leaders and businesses, and conducting a signature campaign. At the beginning
of 2024, that measure finally took full effect.
And Madhvi, now 13, isn’t resting on her laurels. “There’s still more that needs to be banned, like PFAS in
toilet paper and cleaning products,” she says. She has kept up her advocacy locally and abroad. And on a recent
vacation in her hometown, she found time to organize a beach cleanup and speak at schools about pollution.
4.Why did Madhvi want to meet Cutter
A.To explore ways to resolve the PFAS problem.
B.To prevent her from purchasing PFAS products.
C.To seek support for a bill against the use of PFAS.
D.To inform her of PFAS’ negative effects on children.
1 / 40
5.How did Madhvi contribute to the passing of the PFAS bill
A.By drafting it together with Cutter.
B.By conducting a signature campaign.
C.By speaking with influential businesses.
D.By gaining support from the government.
6.What can be inferred about Madhvi from the last paragraph
A.She is tired from her work. B.She feels proud of herself.
C.She wants to achieve more. D.She cares little about fame.
7.What can be the best title for the text
A.Madhvi’s Environmental Campaigns
B.Colorado’ s Bills on PFAS and Plastics
C.A Teen’s Journey to Global Recognition
D.A Young Voice against Environmental Damage
【答案】4.A 5.D 6.C 7.D

Passage(2)
【 福建省泉州市四校联考2024-2025学年高三下学期开学】Hem an Bekele is not your typical high school
student.Rather than spending his free time playing video games or staring at his phone, this 14 year-old from
Fairfax, Virginia was calling professors and conducting experiments, all to create a soap that could treat skin cancer,
and to make it affordable for everyone who needs it.His work won him the grand prize in this year’s 3M Young
Scientist’s Challenge, a competition that encourages kids to think of unique ways to solve everyday problems.
Growing up in Ethiopia, Bekele found in pity that people working outside were likely to end up getting skin
cancer.Skin cancer did have cures and was treatable in most cases. However, the average price of skin cancer
treatment globally was almost $40,000.Those shocking statistics really inspired him to create a more accessible
solution. He started doing experiments and working on different things, and that turned into his bar of soap as a
project.
A lot of his research and development started in his family’s kitchen and in his basement. But as he reached
the final of the competition, he realized that he did need to do a little bit more outside of just his house. So he
reached out to people at University of Virginia and people at Georgetown, and he got a lot of assistance. The
number one person would be Deborah Isabelle, who helped him organize and structure his ideas during the finalist
competition.Bekele said that he definitely couldn’t have done that all by himself.
Bekele’s award-winning soap is a compound based bar of soap and it’s charged with different cancer
fighting chemicals. The color of the soap is a bit of a dark type of white and it has a rough surface, which could be
a good exfoliant(去角质剂).It does have a strong medicine smell and feel a bit stickier. The whole point of it
is that even once you wash off the soaps, the medicinal parts will stay on your skin.It can activate the body’s
immune cells to defend cancer.

【 广东省红岭中学 2024-2025 学年高三下学期第五次统一考试】The world’s largest iceberg is on the
move again, drifting through the Southern Ocean after months stuck spinning on the same spot, scientists from the
British Antarctic Survey (BAS) have said.
Spanning an area of 3,672 square kilometers when measured in August — slightly bigger than Rhode
Island — the A23a iceberg has been carefully tracked by scientists ever since it calved from the Filchner-Ronne
ice shelf in 1986. It remained grounded on the Antarctic’s Weddell Sea floor for more than 30 years, probably until
it shrank just enough to loosen its grasp on the seafloor. Then, the iceberg was carried away by ocean currents
before it became stuck again in a Taylor column — the name given to a spinning vortex (涡流) of water caused by
5 / 40
ocean currents hitting an underwater mountain.
Now that the iceberg has broken free, scientists expect it will continue drifting along the ocean currents
toward warmer water and the remote island of South Georgia, where it is likely to break up and eventually melt,
BAS said in a statement published Friday.
While this particular iceberg probably broke away as part of the natural growth cycle of the ice shelf and
won’t contribute to rising sea levels, climate change is driving worrying changes in this vast, isolated continent,
with potentially devastating consequences for global sea level rise.
Throughout the iceberg’s journey, scientists have studied its erosion and the ways sea ice can influence
global ocean cycles of carbon and nutrients.
“We know that these giant icebergs can provide nutrients to the waters they pass through, creating thriving
(繁 荣 的 ) ecosystems in otherwise less productive areas,” said Laura Taylor, a biogeochemist who collected
samples from the water around the iceberg. “What we don’t know is what difference particular icebergs, their scale,
and their origins can make to that process.” “We took samples of ocean surface waters behind, immediately close to,
and ahead of the iceberg’s route. They should help us determine what life could form around A23a and how it
impacts carbon in the ocean and its balance with the atmosphere.”
8.What is the current status of the A23a iceberg
A.It keeps still in the Weddell Sea.
B.It is melting rapidly near South Georgia.
C.It is floating through the Southern Ocean.
D.It is stuck again in a Taylor column.
9.What probably caused the A23a iceberg to break loose from the seafloor
A.A strong spinning vortex.
B.The calving from ice shelf.
C.The melting of the iceberg.
D.The currents’ collision with sea mountains.
10.What might be the focus of the later study according to Laura Taylor
A.How the A23a influences the creation of thriving ecosystems.
B.Whether the A23a will cause rising sea levels.
C.How the A23a affects global ocean cycles of carbon and nutrients.
6 / 40
D.How the A23a impacts the carbon in the atmosphere.
11.Which of the following might be the most suitable title
A.What A23a will bring us after breaking free again.
B.BAS is tracking the largest iceberg, A23a
C.Moving A23a: Rising sea levels or thriving ecosystems
D.World’s biggest iceberg, A23a, is on the move again
【答案】8.C 9.C 10.A 11.D

能够概括文章内容,最适合作为文章标题,故选 D 项。
Passage(4)
【广东省深圳市高级中学 2024-2025 学年高三上学期第三次诊断考试】I often wake up to my alarm after
a short night and step out of bed to a day I’ve fought through countless times. I rush my morning routine and run to
my car. My radio switches to my favorite song, but I have to listen to an audible (可听的) book for an assignment
due tomorrow.
When I get to school, I start with Spanish, my hardest class. Despite being around all year, I have no clue
what’s going on. I then walk to my English class, in which I was stuck in the language rules. The assignments take
much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late
at night.
This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disorder in reading and spelling: assignments that
take three times as long as they’re meant to, late nights and early mornings to even slightly keep up with my classes.
I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class. But here, I am in my element.
Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged. Yes, my passion for history heightens my focus, but
my teacher’s willingness to work with me is what allows me to fly high.
Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible. I’ve had teachers who teach
lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t
work. A fix for that is as simple as providing alternative resources: a slide show students can go back to after class,
or perhaps even an activity that further plays with the concepts.
Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can
still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by
creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won’t be stuck into academic tracks that don’t push
them to their full potential.
4.Why does the author have to do his homework late at night
A.He is assigned extra homework. B.He fails to manage his spare time.
C.He needs time to do it well enough. D.He dislikes tasks related to languages.
5.What does the underlined part “in my element” in paragraph 4 mean
A.Burning the midnight oil. B.Biting off more than I can chew.
8 / 40
C.Feeling like a fish in water. D.Having butterflies in my stomach.
6.What does the author think of lecture-based classes
A.Satisfying. B.Inspiring. C.Rewarding. D.Demanding.
7.What does the author advise schools to do for students
A.Offer classes with alternatives. B.Ask educational experts to give lectures.
C.Advocate out-of-class activities. D.Get teachers trained in special education.
【答案】4.C 5.C 6.D 7.A
The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take
on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night.(作业耗费了我太多精力,而我追求完美的性格
I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class.

线单词下文“Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged.(尽管我已经落后了三项作业,但我仍
然积极参与其中。)”则表明作者喜欢这门课程。由此可知,作者对这门课程感到自在和舒适,愿意参与其中。
选项 C“Feeling like a fish in water”的意思是“如鱼得水,感到自在和舒适”,这个短语强调的是在某个环境或
领域中感到自在和舒适,能够充分发挥自己的能力。符合句意。故选 C。
6.推理判断题。根据文章第五段“I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected
to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work.(我曾遇到过一些以讲座为基础的老师,他

【湖北省武汉市第一中学2024-2025学年高三上学期12月联考】At just 17, Lauren Schroeder has already
made a significant impact on her community. Her voyage began at 14, volunteering at a food shelter. While
packing boxes with canned goods for needy families, Lauren detected a substantial shortage: fresh vegetables. This
observation sparked an idea that soon grew into a community-wide initiative.
Lauren pictured transforming part of her family’s 150-acre farm into a garden committed to growing produce
for local families. Her proposal was met with a hint of concern from her mother, Katie Schroeder. While supportive,
she also foresaw the extensive labor involved. Despite the agricultural background — her family typically planted
soybeans and corn — vegetable cultivation was a novel pursuit. Nevertheless, Lauren was eager to tackle the
nutritional deficiency she had uncovered.
The hard work began in earnest. Not discouraged by potential obstacles, Lauren dived into research to be a
seasoned vegetable cultivator and secured a grant (拨款) from the National FFA Organization to cover initial costs.
Subsequently, she spent two to three hours daily watering her crops by hand through the hot Iowa summers,
sandwiching this commitment between softball practices. Furthermore, she carefully tended to her garden,
combating weeds and harvesting crops, with green beans proving particularly challenging.
Eventually, with assistance from her younger brothers and sisters, Lauren’s half-acre garden produced 15
varieties of vegetables. In its first year, the garden generated 40 pounds of produce, benefiting food banks, nursing
homes, and soup kitchens.
Motivated by the early achievements, Lauren doubled the garden’s size. To date, she has donated over 7,000
pounds of produce, valued at approximately $15,000, commanding community respect. Her work has found a deep
echo among others, notably a mother from a local shelter who was grateful for the fresh food that reminded her
children of home.
Lauren’s inspiration is straightforward yet deep-seated. “I wanted to have something that would impact
people,” she told KWQC. Her actions demonstrate her belief in the power of community and the joy obtained
from helping others — a feeling that will undoubtedly shape her future initiatives.

【华中师范大学第一附属中学 2024-2025 学年高三下学期开学】About once a week, a veterinarian (兽医)
Kwane Stewart heads down to San Diego’s East Village to make his rounds, serving the dogs, cats and birds who
are the treasured pets of downtown’s homeless community.
Stewart’s parents were huge animal lovers. By age 6, he knew he wanted to be a vet. After graduation from a
Colorado veterinary science program, he spent the next decade as a veterinarian. In 2008, he worked as head
veterinarian at a country-run animal shelter in an area struck by the Great Recession. He saw pets abandoned and
the work was extremely depressing. Four years into the shelter job, Stewart said he was burned out with guilt and
ready to quit.
Then one morning on his way to work, he saw a homeless man and a dog. He treated the dog’s skin
condition and the animal was transformed. The owner was beyond grateful and said, “Thanks for not ignoring me
and for treating my dog.” “That was the moment for me. I got back to saving animals and doing it on my own

5.推理判断题。根据第二段中“He saw pets abandoned and the work was extremely depressing. Four years into
the shelter job, Stewart said he was burned out with guilt and ready to quit.( 他看到宠物被遗弃,工作非常令人沮

anything like that.” Gauff says. This is coming from a person who has bungee jumped off Sky Tower, New Zealand’

【2025 届黑龙江省“六校联盟”高三上学期联合适应性考试】I am a deaf man, from California, the USA,
and I once studied at Gallaudet University in Washington, the world’s first school for the advanced education of the
deaf.
It was Christmas time. The campus was nearly empty, so I was almost alone and felt quite lonely. It was my
first Christmas away from my family - with no Christmas tree, no burning fireplace, no tasty dinner, no laughter
and no gifts to open. Because of having no source of income, I just could not afford to fly home, and felt awfully
sorry for myself at that special moment.
On a dark, rainy afternoon, feeling down, I forced myself to a nearby post office to send a package home.
Normally, I wear a hearing aid from early in the morning till bedtime in the evening. That day I just did not want to
hear anything, co I left my hearing aid in my dormitory room and was unable to hear anything completely.
The weather was extremely bad, making it hard for people to keep their spirits up. Inside the post office,
each window had a line of at least a dozen people. I was standing in one of the lines with all the other customers,
when the door swung open. In came a boy, perhaps 12 years old, who got well through. He was selling copies of
The Washington Post for ten cents each. There was nothing else for me to look at, so I watched him silently.
He went up to each person and offered a newspaper for sale. Person after person, line after line, no one
would like to buy. Most people just ignored him. Obviously, no one was willing to do him a kindness. Finally, he
came up to me. I told him that I didn’t need newspapers because my college reading room was always supplied
18 / 40
with newspapers. He left me and went on to other people. Twenty minutes later, no one bought any of his
newspapers, and I started to feel some sort of pain for him, so I searched my pocket and found a quarter.

I gestured for the boy to come over.

【答案】I gestured for the boy to come over. Then I handed my quarter to him. He gave me fifteen cents in change,
but I politely declined. Hesitating for a moment, he handed me another two copies of newspapers. I told him that I
didn’t need them. He responded with a grateful smile. Realizing I was struggling to hear his words, he expressed
his gratitude loudly, positioning himself close to my ear. All the people in the post office turned in my direction,
and they all smiled. I could guess from the reaction of the surrounding people that the boy must have spread some
thankful words.
Al that moment, people around me began to buy the boy’s newspapers. A moment later, all the newspapers the boy
had were sold out, and he stood there with a look of surprise and joy. I had never imagined my simple action would
make such a significant difference. My mood lifted and the boy made my day. He had no way to know what effect
his shouted thanks would have on me - it changed my lonely Christmas into one of my finest. It dawned on me that
sometimes the easiest way to reconnect with happiness can be as simple as doing someone a kindness.

【2025 届山东省日照市高三下学期一模】It was the summer of 2019, and I was part of a team of eight
climbers attempting to reach the top of Mount Rainier in Washington State. We had been training for over a year,
preparing for the physical and mental challenges of the climb. Our team, composed of experienced mountaineers
and a few beginners like myself, had grown close during our training sessions. We relied on each other for support,
encouragement, and motivation. If someone was struggling, the rest of us would step in to help, whether it was
carrying extra sports equipment or offering words of encouragement.
The first two days of the climb went smoothly. We made good progress, reaching Camp Muir at 10,000 feet
without any major issues. The weather was perfect, and our spirits were high. On the third day, we began our push
for the peak. The plan was to start early in the morning, around 2 a.m., to take advantage of the colder, firmer snow.
20 / 40
We roped up and began the climb, each of us focused on the task at hand.
As we approached Disappointment, Cleaver, a steep and dangerous section of the climb, the weather began
to change. The wind picked up, and the temperature dropped significantly. We could barely see more than a few
feet in front of us because of the dense fog, and the snow underfoot became unstable. Despite the challenging
conditions, we carried on, determined to reach the peak.
Then, disaster struck. One of our team members, Sarah, lost her footing and slipped. The force of her fall
pulled the rest of us off balance, and we all fell, sliding down the slope (斜坡). I felt a sharp pain in my leg as I hit a
rock, and I knew immediately that something was wrong. The rest of the team quickly regained their footing and

【答案】“I think my leg is broken,” I said painfully. The team members gathered around me, their faces filled with
worry. Our team leader, Mark, quickly assessed the situation. He gently examined my leg, trying to determine the
extent of the injury. Sarah, who felt guilty for causing the fall, was on the verge of tears. “I’m so sorry, this is all
my fault,” she sobbed. Everyone comforted her, emphasizing that accidents happen. Mark radioed for help, but due
to the poor weather conditions, the rescue team couldn’t reach us immediately. In the freezing cold, the team

huddled around me, sharing their body heat to keep me warm.
The rescue team arrived finally. They carefully strapped me onto a stretcher and carried me down the
mountain. The rest of the team followed closely behind, relieved that I was in professional hands. Back at the base
camp, I received medical treatment. Although my leg was broken, I was filled with gratitude for my teammates.
They had not only supported me during the accident but also made the decision to stay with me instead of
continuing their journey to the peak. The experience taught me the true meaning of teamwork and friendship.

at the fair. I am sure that Mr. Egan consulted our teacher, Ms. Cates, for suggestions as to who would be the student
directors, and I was pleasantly surprised when he approached me to be one of the students in charge. I was even
more surprised when he told me that the student I would be working with was Charlie Lyons.
Charlie and I have known each other since kindergarten but have never been close. Ever since we were
partners for the science project last year, there is very little we choose to say to each other. Needless to say, the
science project fell short of our expectations. In light of that event, I was shocked that Mr. Egan and Ms. Cates
found us a suitable match.
At the meeting with Mr. Egan, we divided the responsibilities between us. I would be in charge of setting up
the room and getting the volunteers to work the sale for all three days. Charlie would be in charge of all the books.
We were both quite satisfied with our jobs, and even more satisfied that there would be little contact between us.
With only two weeks to plan, I knew I could not waste time. I asked John and Rachel to help me with the
set-up and twelve other classmates to work at the fair. I figured that, between Mr. Egan, the friends who
volunteered to help, and me, we would be just fine.
Meanwhile, I tried on two separate occasions to start a conversation with Charlie about the progress he was
making, but each time his response was, “Everything’s cool.”
On the day of the set-up, my friends and I arrived, only to find Charlie with his head in his hands, surrounded
by a million boxes of books. I asked him, “Charlie, what’s wrong ”

【答案】One possible version:
He responded in despair, “There are a lot more books here than I expected.” My initial impulse was to say,
“This is your mess. Figure it out yourself.” But instead I said, “Let me see if I can get some help.” Charlie nodded,
appreciating the support. Then, we, together with other helpers, rolled up our sleeves and started sorting them by
genre. Hours passed by as we worked side by side. Slowly but surely, the chaos began to transform into a perfect
fair, and our avoidance of contact into smooth communication. I was surprised that the book fair was a success and
even more surprised that we could actually work well together.(98 words)
After the book fair was over, I couldn’t stop wondering why Mr. Egan put us together. I approached him,
eager to figure out his intention of this unlikely pairing. However, his reply was quite simple, “I knew that this
would be a great experience for both of you. It wasn’t so much about running the book fair as it was a lesson in
how important it is to communicate and to work alongside others when necessary.” Hearing what he said and
thinking of what happened between Charlie and me, I couldn’t help but smile. Sometimes, the most valuable
lessons are learned amidst the challenges we face and the people we least expect to be our allies.(100 words)

Sensing my bad mood, Tex decided to cheer me up. He dashed out of my room and returned a minute later,
dumping a basket full of stuffed animals all over me. “A teddybear picnic!”
“No, Tex, not today.” I got up, dragged myself to the living room and flopped into the chair, feeling grumpy
(暴躁的). Tex stood in the doorway, a disappointed look on his face.
Although I knew Tex was just trying to help, I couldn’t shake off my bad feelings. Just then, my friend Ollie
arrived, excitedly holding a brand-new basketball. He suggested that we head to the park and try it out.
Feeling too absorbed in my bad mood, I sighed and told Ollie that I was too busy being in the world’s worst
mood to do anything at all. Curious about my annoyance, Ollie asked what had happened. I told him Tex had
interrupted my reading and for some unknown reason, it had put me in a really grumpy mood. Ollie then mentioned
that when he was in a bad mood, he liked to move his body.
“I’d love to move,” I said. “To a tropical island!”
“Not that kind of move!” Ollie said “I move my body. You know, skateboard, basketball, go for a walk, and
do jumping jacks. Exercise makes me feel e on!”

I sighed, thinking that exercise was the last thing I wanted to do in my grumpy state. But Ollie’s words
echoed in my mind, and I realized that maybe he was right.

【答案】范文
Unwillingly, I agreed to go to the park with him. When we arrived at the park, Ollie handed me the
basketball and challenged me to a game of one-on-one. At first, I was not in the mood, but Ollie kept on
encouraging me. As we dribbled and shot the ball, I found myself slowly getting into the game. Focusing on it, I
began to feel a glimmer of joy and excitement. After a while, we were both laughing and enjoying ourselves. The
fresh air, the laughter, and the joy of playing basketball made us forget about the time.
At sunset, I was on my way back home, tired but no longer in grumpy mood. When I entered the house, Tex
looked up at me with eager eyes, yet hesitated to approach. “Hey, buddy.” I smiled at him, ruffling his hair. “How
about reading the story to you before bedtime ” Tex’s eyes lit up, and he nodded excitedly. That night, Tex climbed
onto my bed once again, snuggling up beside me, content to listen to the story quietly. I couldn’t help but feel
grateful for Ollie, who helped lift me out of my negative emotion and allowed me to enjoy the moment.

seventh-grade teachers organized a two-week-long summer camp for the students at a nearby camping site. All the
children were happy to hear about the trip and immediately asked their parents’ permission.
One of the scholars, a 13-year-old named Sam, came to the summer campsite in his dad’s old Lincoln. As he
was dropped off, all the other kids and parents looked at the very old car, especially against the array of luxury cars.
As the day progressed, the other students began using their phones and taking pictures together. Meanwhile,
Sam sat under a tree and read a book. He had a phone too, although it was old with big buttons. He rarely brought it
out, except in the morning and at night to call his parents. When he did use his phone, the other children would
whisper and laugh at him. Nevertheless, Sam did not mind them.
On the second day of camp, the instructor taught the kids how to light a fire from raw materials and set up a
tent. While everyone was having difficulty completing the tasks, Sam was able to light the fire and set up the tent
faster than the instructor. Everyone was shocked at his speed, and when one classmate asked why he learned it so

1 / 22

Bekele won 25,000 prize money and he was going to use it to continue research. He said, “I still need a lot
of resources to be able to conduct this research, so this money will definitely help me achieve it.”

3 / 22
before it became stuck again in a Taylor column — the name given to a spinning vortex (涡流) of water caused by
ocean currents hitting an underwater mountain.
4 / 22
C.How the A23a affects global ocean cycles of carbon and nutrients.

6 / 22
4.Why did Lauren initiate the community garden
A.To pursue a new hobby. B.To explore plant cultivation.
C.To fill a food shelter’s vegetable gap. D.To gain recognition in her community.
5.How did Lauren overcome her lack of experience in vegetable farming
A.By doing trial and error. B.By conducting thorough research.
C.By engaging in fundraising activities. D.By maintaining consistent hard work
6.What do we know about Lauren in the initial process of vegetable cultivation
A.She was passionate and determined. B.She was inexperienced but creative.
C.She was observant and popular. D.She was concerned but hardworking.

The rest of the team quickly regained their footing and
managed to stop our slide, but I was unable to stand.

【湖北省武汉中学 2024-2025 学年高三上学期 12 月月考】Our school holds an annual book fair each
January, where new and used books are available for students to purchase. Our librarian, Mr. Egan, is the school
sponsor (主办者) for it. Traditionally, the tenth-grade students are responsible for the planning, set-up, and selling
at the fair.
13 / 22

【湖南省长沙四大名校2024-2025学年高三下学期2月月考】Last Sunday afternoon, I was reading a book
and had just come to the most interesting part when my little brother, Tex, rushed into my room. “Look at these
cool paper airplanes I made!” Tex exclaimed, throwing one directly at my head.
Annoyed, I asked him for some peace and quiet so I could continue reading. “Ooh! I want to read!” said Tex.

He climbed onto my bed and eagerly asked if I could read the book out loud to him. I replied that I didn’t want to
read out loud.

【吉林省长春市实验中学 2024-2025 学年高三上学期期末】As the school year came to an end, the
seventh-grade teachers organized a two-week-long summer camp for the students at a nearby camping site. All the
children were happy to hear about the trip and immediately asked their parents’ permission.
Everyone was shocked at his speed, and when one classmate asked why he learned it so
fast, Sam replied: “My dad and I went camping every Saturday since I was seven. So starting a fire and setting a
tent is normal to me.” Patrick Letter, one of Sam’s classmates was amazed at Sam’s skills. “That’s so cool! I wish I
went camping with my dad. He works every day, so we never really went anywhere together,” he said. Most of the
kids lowered their eyes, knowing that they, too, never had activities with their busy parents.

【江苏省苏州中学、海门中学、姜堰中学、淮阴中学等四校 2024-2025 学年高三下学期 2 月联考】One
rainy evening, as I was walking home from school, I heard a faint meowing coming from a nearby alley. Curiosity
led me to investigate, and there, in a corner, huddle d a tiny, soaking wet kitten. Its eyes were filled with fear and
helplessness.
I couldn’t just leave it there. I scooped up the little creature and wrapped it in my jacket to keep it warm.
When I got home, my parents were surprised to see me with a stray kitten, but they understood my concern and
allowed me to keep it for the night.
I dried the kitten with a towel and gave it some milk and a small blanket to sleep on. It purred softly, as if
thanking me. That night, as I lay in bed, I thought-about-how the kitten must have been alone and scared in the cold
rain.
The next day, I took the kitten to the veterinarian to make sure it was healthy. The doctor said it was just a
little undernourished and needed some love and care. I decided to name the kitten Luna.
Over the next few weeks, Luna grew stronger and more playful. She would follow me around the house and
curl up on my lap when I was reading. I was determined to find her a forever home.
One sunny weekend, I organized a small adoption event in the neighborhood park. Many people came to see
the cute kitten, but no one seemed quite the right fit. Just as I was starting to feel disheartened, a little girl
approached with her parents. Her eyes lit up when she saw Luna, and she gently stroked the kitten’s fur.
I could tell from the look on her face that she would give Luna all the love and attention she needed. With a
heavy heart but a smile on my face, I handed Luna over to the little girl.
Amazed and thrilled, the little girl hugged Luna tightly in her arms.

【江西省赣州市赣抚吉十五校联考 2024-2025 学年高三上学期 12 月月考】It started out as an innocent
game of basketball in my son’s school. Sugg, Ivan’s gym teacher, thought that maybe a few of the kids’ fathers
could get together one night to “work out”. The game became a regular Thursday gathering. Most times the kids
would hang out and cheer us on. Actually, they’d cheer on their gym teachers.
“Sugg scored over twenty points! He’s the greatest,” my boy kept saying one night. I knew a boy would have
heroes other than his dad. I could handle that, insisting: “He plays every day. He’s fat and he doesn’t have much
hair. Wait till I practice more and lose some weight.” Ivan thought about this for a second. “He is not fat but strong
with a unique haircut.” he said quietly.
This got me down. My wife said I was silly, explaining that Ivan was just competing with me through Sugg.
Well, if the kid wanted to play basketball, let’s play basketball. I could make it.
Eventually my game improved. Fitter and faster, I could skillfully dribble (运球), shoot and pass the ball.
“You did better than other dads,” he said one night after a game. “Yeah, you had two steals (抢断), two rebounds
(篮板球), and you shot five for eight finishing with eleven points.” I gave him a little hug, feeling thrilled yet a bit
surprised as Ivan watched me play so carefully.
One day, Sugg announced that our Thursday-night group joined a local basketball league. I came home the
next day with a green uniform. “Can Mom and I come to your first game ” Ivan begged. “No.” I said. But they still
came.
The gym at the school was packed. We came out in our shiny green outfits, however, with ten tight faces.
The game started. On the bench instead of on the court, I cheered wildly to show Ivan that being on the second

【江西省吉安市六校协作体 2025 学年高三上学期 1 月联考】“Did you write your thank-you notes ” I
asked my son, Jon. “Not yet, Mom,” Jon replied, rolling his eyes. “I’ll do it when I get back from Jim’s house.”
“Sorry, that’s not going to happen!” I snapped. “You’re not leaving this house until you’ve written a note to
everyone you came in contact with during your interview.” “Even the receptionist who was rude to me ” Jon asked
with a puzzled expression. “Especially her,” I said.
Jon had just finished interviewing with his first- choice company. It was a rare opportunity considering that
jobs were in short supply. After an hour, Jon came out of his room and handed over eight thank-you notes. To my
delight, they were all sincere and heartfelt — even the one to the receptionist who had been less friendly.
Before Jon left to visit his friend, he turned to me and announced, “Mom, I’m pretty sure that a thank-you
note to the CEO or the receptionist isn’t going to land me this job. But if it makes you happy, then it’s worth it.”
Jon was twenty-one years old, and I felt foolish telling a grown man what to do, but I also didn’t want him living in
our basement for the rest of his life!
Ten days after the thank-you notes were mailed, Jon received a call from the company that he had

interviewed with. When his cellphone rang for the second time, I asked, “Jon, why don’t you want to answer a
phone call ” “Oh, they’re just calling to let me know that I didn’t get the job,” Jon said sadly. “I’m sorry to
disappoint you, but they only give you a call when you get the job.” I explained.
For days, Jon had been worried that his school loans would be due after graduation and that he didn’t have a
job lined up. He had thoroughly convinced himself that he didn’t get the job, but I knew better. Jon hesitated to
answer the cellphone. But after my efforts, Jon finally gave in and went into the next room to make the call.
