一、when，while 引导的时间状语从句
1. when引导的时间状语从句可以表示一个时间点，也可以表示一个时间段。从
句中可以用短暂性动词，也可以用延续性动词。从句中的动作既可与主句的动
作同时发生，又可在主句的动作之前或之后发生。
如：It was snowing when we got to the airport. 当我们到达机场时，天正下着雪。
My key dropped on the ground when I was walking in the park.
当我在公园散步时，钥匙掉在了地上。
2. while引导的时间状语从句常指一个时间段，从句中的动词必须为延续性动
词。while有时还可表示主句的动作与从句的动作同时发生。
如：While he was reading，the phone rang.
当他看书的时候，电话铃响了。
Some students were reading while others were writing.
一些学生在读书，另一些学生在写字。
【注意】当时间状语从句中的动作与主句中的动作同时发生，且从句的动作为
延续性动词时，when与while 都可以使用。
二、过去进行时
1. 定义：表示在过去某一时刻或某一时间段内正
在进行或发生的动作。
2. 构成：was/were＋v.-ing
说明：当主语是第一人称单数形式或第三人称单数形式时，助动词用was，其余
人称用were。
3. 常用时间状语：
at that time；at this time yesterday；at 7：00 yesterday morning等。
4. 基本句式：
肯定句 主语＋was/were＋v.-ing＋其他.
否定句 主语＋wasn't/weren't＋v.-ing＋其他.
一般疑问句 肯定回答 否定回答 —Was/Were＋主语＋v.-ing＋其他？
—Yes，主语＋was/were.
—No，主语＋wasn't/weren't.
特殊疑问句 疑问词＋was/were＋主语＋v.-ing＋其他？
如：He was cooking at six last night.
昨天晚上六点，他正在做饭。
He wasn't cooking at six last night.
昨天晚上六点，他没在做饭。
—Was he cooking at six last night？
昨天晚上六点他在做饭吗？
—Yes，he was.是的，他在（做饭）。
—No，he wasn't.不，他没在（做饭）。

(过去进行时)
过去进行时表示过去某一时刻或某段时间正在进行的动作。过去进行时由“was / were + 动词-ing形式”构成。
Past Progressive Tense
(1)表示过去某一时刻或某一段时间内正在进行的动作，常与时间状语at that time, at that moment, at this time yesterday, at ten o’clock yesterday等连用。如：
基本用法:
Were you playing basketball at four yesterday afternoon
昨天下午四点你们在打篮球吗
(2)表示在过去一段时间内持续进行的动作(有时也可以有间歇)。如：
We were watching TV from seven to nine last night.
昨天晚上七点到九点的时候我们在看电视。
She was singing from 7:00 to 7:30 last night.
她昨晚七点至七点半在唱歌。
过去进行时的各种句式:
肯定句: 主语+ was / were + 动词-ing形式
否定句:主语+ was / were + not + 动词-ing形式
I was reading at this time yesterday.
昨天这个时候我正在看书。
I wasn’t reading at this time yesterday.
昨天这个时候我没在看书。
疑问句:
(1)一般疑问句: was / were + 主语+ 动词-ing形式。肯定回答: Yes, 主语+ was / were.否定回答: No, 主语+ wasn’t / weren’t. 如：
—Were you reading at this time yesterday
昨天这个时候你在看书吗？
— Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t.
是的，我在看。/ 不，我没在看。
(2)特殊疑问句：疑问词+ was / were + 主语+ 动词-ing形式。如：
What were you doing at this time yesterday
昨天这个时候你在做什么？
What was he researching all day last Sunday
上周日他一整天都在研究什么？
一般过去时与过去进行时的动作都是发生在过去。
一般过去时强调动作的发生或状态的存在在过去；
而过去进行时强调动作正在进行的延续性。
过去进行时与一般过去时的区别
I got up at five the day before yesterday.
前天我是五点起床的。
He was painting the lab the whole day.
他一整天都在粉刷实验室。
过去进行时
含义: 表示过去某个时刻
正在进行的动作。
结构：
was/were + doing
例句：
I was having an English
class at this time yesterday.
现在进行时
含义: 表示现在正在进行
的动作。
结构：
is/am/are + doing
例句：
I am having an English class.
过去进行时与现在进行时时的区别

when

while
(1) 若从句是一个短暂性动作，主句是一个持续性动作，可用 when 但不用 while：
It was raining hard when we arrived.
我们到达时正下着大雨。
(2) 表示主、从句正在进行的动作或状态的对比时多用while：
While she was making a phone call, I was writing a letter.
when 和 while 的区别
(3) when 可用作并列连词，表示“这时(突然)”，但while不可以；while 可以用作并列连词，表示“而、却”(表示对比)，但when没有这种用法。
We were about to start when it began to rain.
He likes coffee, while she likes tea.
While John was playing the piano, Mary left the house.
John was playing the piano when Mary left the house.
