When I was young, my mum used to give the family something 11 for meals — she would make breakfast food for dinner.
I still remember one night my mum 12 some bread in front of my dad, something very burnt. I waited to see if anybody noticed. To my surprise, my dad just took his 13 , smiled at my mum and then turned to ask me how my day at school had been. I’ve 14 what I told him that night. 15 I do remember watching him put some butter on that bread. He ate it away as usual, every single bit.
After dinner, my mum said sorry to my dad for burning the bread. And I never forget what he said, “I 16 burnt bread, dear. It doesn’t matter at all.”
After school I went to kiss Dad good night. I asked him 17 he really liked his bread burnt. He held me in arms and 18 , “Your mum worked very hard all day. She’s really 19 . And you see — a bit of burnt food never hurt anyone!”

This is the 23 to a happy life.
So don’t get angry if the bread gets burnt. Remember, 24 bread never hurt anyone. Be kind to those around you and a happier life will surely come 25 to you.

In Los Angeles, a waiter served a group of teens. The waiter remembered his experience as a young high school student. So he made sure the teens had a pleasant experience at the restaurant. The waiter made sure of it.
After serving all the teens doing a great job, he was left a tip(小费), only $3. 28. That was hardly enough to buy a drink at Starbucks.
The waiter went home. And he felt angry for the students who did not know the value of hard work. They looked down on people like him. Or so he thought.
After several days, the waiter forgot about it. His life went on as usual. But ten days later, he received a letter from the teens.
About a week and a half ago, on October 7, my three friends and I came to eat at this restaurant as our own homecoming celebration. It was an exciting experience for us to be here alone, and it was all new to us. And you were the best waiter we could ask for. You were kind, helpful, and didn’t treat us like babies! So I want to say thank you for making our “grown—up” experience so amazing and fun.
I would also like to say sorry on behalf of(代表)my group. Since we were new to all of this, reasonable(合乎情理), but we had completely forgotten(and didn’t know, to be honest)what a tip even was, let alone how much to give. So we emptied our pockets, and all our money added up to $3. 28. Having no idea of how small this really was, we left. Later, we realized our mistake and felt terrible. We knew we had to make it right.

The scientific method is used for simple experiments that students may do in the classroom or very difficult experiments that scientists are doing all over the world. It is a way of thinking that helps you to avoid drawing incorrect conclusions.
There are usually four steps in the scientific method, including observation (观察), hypothesis (假设), experiment, and conclusion. The steps may not always be completed in the same order, but the first step is usually observation and asking a question about your observation. For example, you had a sick stomach, and ate a candy bar. An hour later, you observed that you felt much better. Here, you can ask a question, such as, “What makes a sick stomach feel better ”
The second step is to state a possible answer to the question, or a hypothesis, such as “” A good hypothesis includes three things: The explanation for the observations, it is able to be tested, and it will usually predict new outcomes or conclusions.
The third step is the experiment, to test the hypothesis. An experiment is a test which will either challenge or support the hypothesis. The hypothesis will then be true or false.
The final step is to think about what happened when you tested the hypothesis and draw a conclusion. The conclusion will either clearly support the hypothesis or it will not. If the results support the hypothesis, a conclusion can be written and you can share it with the rest of the world. If it does not support the hypothesis, you may choose to change the hypothesis or write a new one based on what was learned during the experiment.

36.Which of the following sentences about the experiment is TRUE
A.An experiment is a test to always support the hypothesis.

C.An experiment is a test to either challenge or support a hypothesis.
D.An experiment is only used when scientists are trying to prove a hypothesis.

One day, a farmer’s donkey fell into a dry well. The poor animal cried for hours before his owner finally found him. The farmer tried hard to pull him out from the well but failed. He felt very sorry for the donkey but after carefully thinking about the situation, he decided that he would not save the donkey. Since the donkey was too old and it was not worth the trouble of saving. So he invited his neighbours to help him bury (埋葬) the old donkey in the well so that it would make him end his pain.
Hearing many people coming to help, the old donkey was excited at first. As they began to scoop the dirt into the well with shovels (铲子), he soon realized what was happening. He felt very upset and cried sadly again. As the farmer and his neighbours continued throwing the dirt on his back, he suddenly had a good idea. Some time later, when the farmer finally looked down into the well, he was surprised at what he saw: every time the dirt landed on his back, he shook it off and took a step (步) up!
Soon, everyone was amazed when the donkey stepped proudly over the edge of the well and ran away quickly! It seemed that it would bury him at first, but it actually helped him later because of the manner in which he faced his trouble.
That is life! Just like the donkey, life is going to throw dirt on us, all kinds of dirt. As long as we face our problems in an active way, and refuse to give in to any trouble, each dirt is like a stepping stone with which we get out of the deepest wells. Never stop and never give up. Success is just on the way.
