Breathe, wave and smile. Along with more than 300 other seniors, I marched into the stadium on the afternoon of May 10. The audience burst into deafening cheers. The huge stadium shook with all the whistling and clapping.
It was as if a Hollywood superstar had walked on stage. And indeed, every single senior that day was a star of the moment. Each deserved it. The seniors had been preparing for four years for this once-in-a-lifetime moment—the graduation ceremony.
Seated, I waited anxiously for the opening speech. As a foreign exchange student, I was not able to receive a diploma. However, I still had the wonderful feeling of being part of things. Like the other graduates, I was dressed in maroon(紫褐色) cap and gown.
Our principal, Mr. Glover, delivered a short, warm greeting. The US national anthem followed and then, hands on chests, a solemn Pledge of Allegiance (效忠誓言).
Students who had done well academically gave farewell speeches. The tears in some eyes convinced me that many had deep feelings about the occasion. It was as the class motto says, "Life brings us tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry; the smiles fade; but the memories last forever."
Then came the most important part of the ceremony. Hundreds of names were announced. Each graduate walked across the stage to receive his or her diploma from the principal. From the different cheers each graduate got, we had the funny sense that it was a kind of competition of who could cheer the loudest.
To be honest, the presentation of diplomas got boring. A girl sitting next to me even started yawning. But it wasn't boring for those receiving the diploma: they would treasure the moment the principal placed the sacred brown document in their hands for the rest of their lives.
A new page in the book of that person's life had turned. They were glimpsing(开始领悟) their futures: Futures of challenge, hardship, perhaps loneliness too, which would take all of their courage.

Spending time online is normal behavior for teenagers. But too much Internet use by teens—or too little, for that matter—might be related to depression, a new study finds.
The findings, reported in the journal of Pediatrics, do not mean that the Internet is to blame. For one, teens in the study who spent no time online were also at increased risk of depression symptoms.
Instead, the researchers say that both heavy Internet use and non-use could serve as signals that a teenager is having a hard time.
For the study, Dr. Pierre-Andre Michaud and colleagues at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, surveyed 7,200 individuals ages 16 to 20 about their Internet use.
Those who were online more than two hours per day were considered "heavy" Internet users, while those online anywhere from several times per week to two hours were considered "regular" users.
The teenagers also answered a number of health-related questions, including some standard questions about "depressive tendencies" that gauge(测量) how often a person feels sad or hopeless.
Compared with regular Internet users, the study found, kids who were heavy users or non-users were more likely to be depressed or very depressed.
Among male teens, heavy users and non-users were both around one-third more likely to have a high depression score, compared to "regular" users. Among girls, heavy Internet users had an 86 percent greater chance of depression, while non-users had a 46 percent greater likelihood compared to regular users.
That was with factors like family income and any chronic health problems taken into account.
However, the average depression scores among non-users, regular users and heavy users alike were all towards the lower end—between 1 and 2 on a scale of 1 to 4, with one being "not depressed at all".
99. According to the passage, what may cause the teenagers' depression
A. Surfing online and chatting online regularly.

C. Spending too much time online.
D. Both B and C.
100. From the new study in the passage, we know that .

B. girls who are addicted in the Internet are more likely to suffer depression
C. boys who are addicted in the Internet are more likely to suffer depression
D. the teenagers have to answer questions like family income and health problems
101. The passage is developed by .
A. examples B. comparisons C. figures D. inference
102. What's the author's attitude to the problem
A. Satisfied. B. Disappointed. C. Anxious. D. Worried.

Technology is changing the way that many students are learning in school. It's also changing the way that information about students is collected and stored. Schools have always kept record of information about students such as test scores, number of absences, behavior, and school-wide graduation rates. But new technology is making it easier for schools to collect more detailed data(数据) about students. Schools around the country are using digital(数码) tools such as homework sites and apps that record student progress in subjects. Schools can also check and record how students behave in class. Much of this data is collected and stored by the technology companies that create the programs, and not by the schools themselves.
Supporters of these digital programs say that they help teachers and schools to find out areas in which students need help and that the programs make it easier for teachers to plan lessons more effectively. Digital programs are a 21st Century way of recording students' progress.
But some parents and educators are worried that the programs may not protect students' personal information. They worry that information about their children is being collected and stored without their knowledge, and could possibly be sold to other companies. "Schools are handing off student data to strangers without parents knowing about it," Leonie Haimson, co-chairwoman of a group called the Parent Coalition for Student Privacy, told TFK. "We don't know what those strangers are going to do with this data and how long they are going to store it for, and that's a trouble."
At TFK, we are devoted to protecting students' privacy, which is why the TIME FOR KIDS Classroom App does not collect personal information on students. Teachers control student information and give student IDs and classroom passwords. All the information is cleared at the end of the school year.
The government is taking steps to protect students' privacy. Many states, including New York and Virginia, now have laws that limit the sharing of student data with companies. President Barack Obama recently announced new student digital-privacy law. It keeps companies that work with schools from using student information for marketing or advertising purposes.
What do you think Should tech companies be able to store data on students Write a 200-word response. Send it to tfkasks4you@. Your response may be published in a future issue of TIME For Kids. Please include your grade and contact information for your parent or teacher if you want your response to be published. The deadline for responding is Feb. 13th, 2016.
Then, be sure to voice your opinion!

八、短文7选5(5选5等)(共5小题;共10分)
A hobby is an investment of time. It also can be an investment of money and commitment. Many people choose to develop more than one type of hobby. 107. When it comes to choosing the hobby, consider the following factors.
Hobbies are usually an activity of some sort that brings out a certain skill that you have. When you have a talent like painting or woodworking, it can be easy to determine which hobby suits your skill. 108. Skill can be developed and challenged as you go along. It is not a necessary requirement. A hobby is fitting because you love it, not because you're a professional at it.
Some people particularly enjoy taking part in hobbies that they can do in a group with others. It can be a lot more fun to become a member of a hobby group than to sit alone in your basement. 109. It's important to share interests and network with other hobby enthusiasts that do what you do.
Hobbies are generally an activity that you undertake because of the joy it brings you. Of course many people have discovered the joy that also comes with a hobby that earns you a living. 110. Just make sure you make the choice that fits your lifestyle and personal preference. 111. But most of the skilled hobbies like art, building or writing have a series of lessons or tutorials that you can take to further your skills. In some cases it's a really good idea to take lessons, especially if you are clueless as to where or how to begin. Step by step books for most hobbies can often be found in bookstores as well.
A. However, hobbies don't have to be skill related.
B. Most hobbies can easily be done within your own home, at your leisure.
C. Look one up or start your own.
D. Read hobby books to learn more about your chosen hobby!
E. Make a list of things that you enjoy or don't know about.
F. It can be a necessary part of selecting the hobby that is right for you.

Senior three student will face a problem after they pass by the college entrance examination. Should I choose a good major and a good university Some students preferred to consider majors first so that they can learn what they are interested. It will also make it possibly for them to take their favorite jobs in the future. However, those who think differently believes that the environment is important to one's development. They think that students graduate from key universities are often more likely to find a good job. In my opinion, the best choice is to choose a good major at a good university. But if we can obtain both, the first thing to consider is a good major, because no matter where we study, we can still achieve a lot in the certain field if we try our best.
