M:Oh,you've got a brother, have you W:I've got two brothers.Kit,the one with the birthday is only fourteen.I've got a big brother who's married. His name's Don. M:Does your brother Don live near here W:Yes,not very far away.Cathy-that's his wife-works in the sweet shop over there. They've got a new baby called Liz,I mean Elizabeth really, but we call her Liz. M:Is that your mum over there calling you W:No,that's my aunt May,my mum's sister.I'd better go.Bye. M:Bye. Text 7 M:Excuse me,madam.Would you mind if I ask you some questions I need your help to complete a survey. W:Of course not.Go ahead. M:I'd like to know your opinion about modern pop music. W:Modern pop music Um…well,I don't really listen to pop music,or watch pop videos. M:Oh,why W:The music is too noisy, and the songs are really nonsense. And just look at their hair styles, the clothes they wear, and the way they behave. M:But,you know, young people are fond of pop music. W:You're absolutely right. My son, who's fifteen,is a real pop music fan.He listens to it all the time at home, and it really annoys my husband and me. M:Is that so W:Absolutely. My husband enjoys traditional folk music and classical music. He says it makes him calm and relaxed to listen to,and he says he gets a headache whenever he hears modern pop music. M:Sounds funny. W:And believe it or not,the moment my son turns on his music,my husband always demands he put his headphones on,and so does my son when his father listens to his. Each calls the other's music noise pollution, and the argument never ends. Text 8 W:Cliff! M:Er... W:It's me,Ann! M:Ann! W:I haven't seen you since we finished college. How are things Where are you living What are you doing M:I hardly recognised you! You've let your hair grow.It makes you look older. W:Come on!I'm not that much older! M:You must be twenty-seven. W:You're two years younger, and you look exactly the same as ever. What are you doing M:Teaching, what else W:How's it going Where do you live M:I still live in London, teaching in a comprehensive school there. Are you teaching, too W:No,I got married last year and had a baby recently. M:Congratulations! W:Thanks-so I'm taking the year off to look after the baby and do some studying. My husband got a job in Cardiff,so we've moved there. M:Like it W:Don't know yet.I've just started to get to know people, and with the baby I don't get about much. How about you Married M:Not yet. W:I'm surprised. We always used to say you'd get married first of all of us.You're so good-looking.Have you seen any of the others M:One or two-let's go for a cup of coffee somewhere, and I'll tell you about them. Text 9 W:Don,this is Alice Levy from across the street. M:Yeah. What's the problem Is anything wrong W:Well, yes, there is.We're having a lot of trouble sleeping over here because of your dog. M:Alice,do you know what time it is now It's 3:00 in the morning! W:Right. That's the reason I called.Your dog has been barking all night. You are going to have to do something. Can't you take him into the house M:No,we can't take him into the house. My wife's mother is visiting this week and she doesn't like the smell of the dog. W:Ugh!Well,we don't like the noise of the dog,so you've got to do something. M:OK,I'll go out and take a look.
