“Tom!”
Still no answer.
“Where's that boy gone Tom!”
The old lady looked all around the room. She looked under the bed, but found only the cat.
“If I catch that boy,…” she murmured to herself.
She opened the door and looked out into the garden.
“Tom!” she shouted.
Then she heard a slight noise behind her. She turned round just in time to catch the boy as he came out of a cupboard.
“And what have you been doing in there ”
“Nothing,” said the boy.
“Nothing! Look at your hands and your mouth! What is that stuff ”
“I don't know, Aunt.”
“Well, I know. It's a jam. I've told you forty times that if you touched that jam, I'd skin you. Give me that stick.”
“Look out, Aunt! Look behind you!”
The old lady turned round and Tom was out of the door in a flash, over the garden fence and away.
“Damn that boy! Will I never learn He's always playing tricks on me. And he seems to know just now how far he can go, too. But I can't take a stick to him. I really can't. After all, he's my dead sister's boy. Ah well, he'll play truant today and I'll have to make him work tomorrow.”
At supper Aunt Polly tried to trick Tom into admitting that he hadn't gone to school.
“It was rather hot today, wasn't it, Tom ”
“Yes,” answered Tom.
“You didn't have to open your shirt collar where I sewed it, then.”
Tom was confident, now. He opened his jacket. His collar was securely sewed.
“Oh Tom,” said Aunt Polly. “You're a good boy really.”
She was sorry that she had been wrong about him.
“But Aunt,” came a voice. It was Sidney, Tom's younger brother. “Didn' t you sew Tom's collar with white cotton Look! Now it's black."
Tom was already running out of the door.

How to train your dragon by British author Cressida Cowell is one of the best pieces of children's literature. A child can make a whole alternative universe with a vivid imagination and Toothless, the hero's hunting dragon, thus turning a rainy day into an adventure of lifetime. However, if you have never read the book but instead choose to see the film version, you might think you were seeing a new-age war movie meant for adults rather than children.
Let' look at Where the Wild Things Are for further discussion. The story centers around a lovely eight-year-old boy named Max, who sails away to an island. Creatures living there declare Max their king. What an amazing piece of children's literature! A treasure for every child's library. Yet, children were crying in the movie theatre. Owls were falling from the sky, chicken's arms were being torn off, and a child was running around a dark abandoned world fighting evil as the only human. It was almost as if Hollywood could not imagine children enjoying a movie for its basic literature content. Hollywood might be right. But more and more its audiences are complaining that there is an increased amount of violence in children's stories today than in the past.
While there appears to be a trend in our society to make more violence, more accessible to younger children, books and literature are generally an exception. I truly believe that children's literature has become more vivid and colorful. This is a great treasure for the children, and is certainly not violent. What has changed the children's stories of today is not the writers, but the film industry. In some way, children's literature is just being strangely twisted. I wonder how much influence the author has over this.
104. It can be inferred that the film Where the Wild Things Are is .
A. moving B. frightening C. interesting D. amazing
105. According to the text, the author thinks that .
A. the film industry's treatment of children's literature is wrong
B. writers should provide more colorful works for children
C. there is an increase in violence in children's literature
D. children should read books rather than see films
106. How does the text mainly develop
A. By inferring. B. By giving explanations.
C. By providing examples. D. By making comparisons.

German artist HA Schult is an unusual artist who uses trash to make sculptures(雕塑). "We are living in the time of garbage(垃圾)," says Schult. "I created a thousand sculptures of garbage. They are a mirror of ourselves." Here, Schult was talking about his 1,000 trash sculptures in the form of humans. He first exhibited them in 1996 in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
"They are social sculptures," he explains. "They are not only sculptures for the eyes. They are sculptures to spread the idea that we live in a time of garbage." So far, Schult's social sculptures have been on show in Paris, in Moscow's Red Square, on the Great Wall of China, and in the desert next to the Giza Pyramids near Cairo.
HA Schult's work is unforgettable. Although his work has had a big influence on the art world, Schult remains humble(谦虚的) about his creations: "Artists have to learn every time. We are not important. All that is important is the time in which we are living."
Trash art has been around for years. But it seems that only the popular artists are regarded as true artists when working with trash. Why can't common people be considered artists when they use the same things and change them into some form of personal art Maybe it's because we all have our own preset(预先设置的) ideas of what art is and isn't, or who artists are or should be.
You can be an artist like Schult if you try. Look at used metal cans. What might be done with them Imagine them in any number of new uses, or imagine them simply as an art form. What about boxes or clothing Boxes can usually serve as new storage containers and houses for pets. And clothing Imagine taking old clothes and turning them into hats or hanging organizers(悬挂收纳盒).
107. What do we know about Schult's sculptures
A. They were first shown in Paris, France.
B. They show people the problem of trash.
C. They are mainly about social relationship.
D. They are designed in the shape of garbage.
108. Which of the following can best describe HA Schult
A. Careful. B. Humorous.
C. Not proud. D. Not confident.
109. According to Paragraph 4, the author might agree that .
A. trash art is not a real art form
B. it is difficult to be a true artist
C. the ordinary can also be trash artists
D. preset ideas are important to artists
110. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Could You Be a Trash Artist
B. What Are Social Sculptures
C. Do You Know About Trash Art
D. How Can We Deal with Used Cans

In my experience working with children, self-confidence or a lack of confidence can have a big effect on whether a person is able to overcome the challenges they are experiencing, such as fear and anxiety as well as other concerns. When children build their self-confidence, meaning they believe in themselves more, they become more comfortable with themselves. 111.
Create a pretend play.
Allow a child to create a puppet show (木偶表演) to express the difficulty he is having. For instance, if the child is afraid of the dark, have him come up with a puppet show about a puppet that is afraid of the dark. 112. If the child doesn't seem to be coming up with a way to help the puppet overcome his fear, present some questions to see if he can come up with a way to help the puppet.
113.
Many children with low self-confidence display behaviors that suggest they do not believe they can do things on their own. To encourage independence, when a situation appears in which the child states he can't do it or wants you to do it for him, encourage the child to do the activity. 114.
Raise self-awareness.
Helping children to become more aware of who they are can help build self-confidence. Children with low self-confidence may not be very decisive. They may say I don't know a lot or may hesitate when you ask them questions about themselves. 115. To do this, be supportive of the answers they provide by making sure not to discount or make them feel like they need to change their answers in any way.
A. Develop speaking skills.

W: She is helping Mrs. Devore prepare the report.
M: What's the new typist's name I haven't met her yet.
W: Her name is Laurie Fisher.
M: Are you checking all her work
W: Yes, I am. I'm showing her all the different forms.
M: How is she doing
W: Very well. She is learning everything very quickly.
(Text 9)
W: I've got to say that every dog has his day.
M: Why do you say that
W: Do you remember Julia, the woman who used to be in my department
M: No. What does she look like
W: She's thin and tall, with long brown hair and white glasses. She never wore dresses.
M: Oh, I remember her now. So what's new with her
W: Well, now she is a sales manager in Lucy's company.
M: What That's really unbelievable. She used to be such a quiet woman.
W: Yeah, it's really hard to believe.
M: Well, I guess we should not judge by appearance. So what's new with you
W: Nothing special.
M: Didn't you want to change your job a while ago You always wanted to be a sales manager, but there are no opportunities for that in our company.
W: I know. But I have no choice. You know, I'm not young any more ,and I'm getting ready to have a baby.
M: That's great. Mike must be very happy. He has been looking forward to having a child for years. What made you change your mind
W: My nephew. He's really lovely. I want to have a little boy as lovely as he is.
(Text 10)
M: Have you read the fantasy story His Dark Materials They say it's very interesting.
W: No, but I've heard about the author Philip Pullman.
M: Really I know almost nothing about him.
W: His life actually had a rather sad start. Pullman was born on October 19, 1946, in a small town in the UK. His father was a pilot and so the family traveled a lot when Pullman was very young. But his father was killed in a plane crash in 1953.
M: Oh, that's terrible.
W: Yeah, but his mother remarried in 1957, and then the family moved to Australia. There little Pullman discovered two characters, Superman and Batman, which he liked very much, and it was at that time that he made up his mind to write fantasy novels when he grew up.
M: What was he like in school
W: He was always a good student in Australia, and in 1963 he went to study in a university in southwestern England. But he didn't enjoy the English course, so he was never a top student at the university.
M: Do you know when he began to write his first novel
W: Well, I forgot when he began, but I know he published it in 1972, four years after he graduated from university. He began to write His Dark Materials in 1993 and became famous immediately after the first part of it was published. Want to go and see if they have it in the library
M: Sure!
