Six years ago, I went blind because of a sudden illness. Some normal things like answering the telephone, finding things, or opening and closing doors were difficult for me. I had no idea what facial expressions someone was making when I had a conversation with him. I no longer had the ability to talk with my eyes. How worried I was!
I had to depend on my parents. Hoping I could get better, they took me to see eye experts every day. No one was sure if I would ever completely recover, and if so, how long it would take. I was so sad that I even wanted to give up. My parents even changed their lives in order to make me happy. They would take me to baseball games and out to dinner anything to get me out of the house.
My parents had to take care of me everywhere. At restaurants, they ordered my food, laid it on the table, and then explained where everything was on my plate so I could finally eat it. My mom was amazing. Each day she would brush my hair and dress me up so I could walk out of the house with a little bit of pride. I depended on my mother to make me feel pretty. At an age when I should have been independent, I found myself depending on my parents too much.
My parents took great care of me and I slowly began to progress toward the end of the year. Little by little, I was able to see clearly. I will never forget the moment when I could see my mother’s face again. She smiled with happy tears in her eyes, though she looked much older than before.
The experience may be just a joke from life, but it shows the great love of parents. Parents’ love is the greatest love in the world.

When we look at a picture of Earth from space, there are areas of green, blue, and white. Most people will recognize that the green is land, the blue is water, and the white is clouds. Taken as a whole, Earth is mainly blue. That is because of the amount of water it has that covers the surface.
So, how much of Earth is water About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered in water. Of that 71%, the oceans hold 96.5% of the water. This water found in oceans is all salt water. The remaining 3.5% of the water is fresh water, which can be found in lakes, rivers, glaciers (冰川), and in the ground. Fresh water is what people use for farming, raising animals, drinking, and daily activities such as taking showers and washing clothes or dishes.
Does the amount of water stay the same For the most part, yes. Water on Earth is part of a closed system. That is, water is always moving and changing forms between ice, liquid, and gas. The form of the water changes all the time, but the total amount of water on Earth remains the same.
If Earth is not necessarily running out of water, why are people worried Why do we need to think about saving water First, humans can only use fresh water, which is only 3.5% of all of Earth’s water. Second, of this 3.5%, only 1% is available for human use. Most fresh water is found in glaciers far from where anyone lives. Third, the amount of water that is useful for humans is being used faster than it can be cleaned and put back into the environment.
Now, knowing the facts about water, it is our job to make sure we use Earth’s water in a good way.
8.Where can 96.5% of the water on Earth be found
A. In oceans. B. In lakes. C. In glaciers. D. In rivers.
9.What does the writer mean by saying “ Water on Earth is part of a closed system.”
A. The amount of water becomes smaller. B. The amount of water stays the same.
C. The amount of water keeps changing. D. The amount of water becomes larger.
10.What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A. Humans can use all the water on Earth easily.
B. Most fresh water is found in the ground easily.
C. Humans can’t use 2.5% of the fresh water freely.
D. Water for humans can be cleaned and recycled fast.
11.What is the main idea of the passage
A. The reasons why Earth is in different colors.
B. The people who use the most water on Earth.
C. The amount and different types of Earth’s water.
D. The proper ways for people to use fresh water.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer program or a machine to think and learn. It is also a field of study that tries to make computers “smart”. John McCarthy, a scientist, came up with the name “artificial intelligence” in 1955. Many things such as learning and problem solving can be done by computers, though not in the same way as we do.
An unusual goal of AI research is to create computer programs that can learn, solve problems, and think logically (逻辑地). At present we use the term AI for successfully understanding human speech, recognizing human faces, operating self-driving cars and competing in some game systems like Chess and AlphGo.
Math is the basic language of AI. If we raise the standard in the learning of math, our students will be more likely to become successful AI designers in the future. We not only want bright students, but also need to attract average students and give them the math skills which are needed to change them into AI designers. Besides, a good knowledge of computer science is also necessary for AI designing.
Some people also consider AI a danger to humans if it develops too quickly. Professor Stephen Hawking, a well-known British scientist, was not for this kind of technology. However, there are also scientists hope to create creative and emotional AI which can possibly understand human feelings or create art. Many ways and tools have been tried to discover this fascinating field.
AI is like a powerful tool that can be both helpful and risky. It can make our lives easier and solve big problems, but we also need to be careful with how we use it.
12.What do we know about Al from Paragraph 1
A. All problems can be solved by AI.
B. Machines with AI can think and learn.
C. AI works in the same way as humans.
D. AI has been around for less than 60 years.
13.What does the underlined word “ it” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. Chess. B. Alpha Go. C. The danger. D. AI.
14.The following is a school report. Which student is most likely to be a successful AI designer
Subject/Name Math (100) Art (100) Computer (100)

48.【答案】Dear Miss Wang,
Looking back on the past three years, I’d like to say thanks to you for helping me with my English.
When I was in Grade 7, I was not good at English. I just hid behind my text book and never said anything in class. Once I did very badly in an English test, and I lost heart. However, you had a patient talk with me and encouraged me to be more active in class. Since then, I have worked harder and made great progress. I feel lucky to be your student.
Thank you again. Wish you good luck.
Yours,
Li Hua
