Could表委婉请求的用法
在表示请求帮助或请求允许的疑问句中,常用could代替can,表示礼貌,委婉或不确定的语气,而can则不具备这些语气。这时不能把could看作can的过去式。
could与can表达“提出请求”的区别
A. can表示一般性的请求,语气随便,常用于熟人之间或长辈对辈、上级对下级的场合; 1). Can you tell us your story, Tony

B. could表示有礼貌的请求,语气委婉,常用于非熟人之间或晚辈对长辈、下级对上级的场合。

表示请求允许,could和can都可以,但could语气更委婉。

情态动词could 的用法
1. can 的过去时,表示能力,意为“能够,会”
I could play the piano when I was six years old.
2. 表示对过去、现在或将来的某种猜测,表推测,但把握不大。意为“可能”。
He could have gone home. 他可能已经回家了。
He couldn’t be at the school then.那时他不可能在学校。
3. 表示委婉的给出建议,委婉地向别人提出建议,意为“可以做…。”
4.用于委婉地请求别人做某事或请求许可(见前面的内容)
3)在表示可能性方面,没有时间区别,can 可能性比could 大;
can一般用于否定句和疑问句. He can’t be at home.他不可能在家.
注意和may not 的区别. He may not be at home.他可能不在家.
也可以用于肯定句An accident can happen if you do this.如果你这样做,可能会发生事故。
could和can的区别如下:
1)can 表示现在的能力,could 表示过去的能力.如:He can speak a little English now. She could play the piano when she was five.
2)在表示请求许可时,没有时间区别,在语气上could 更加委婉客气.
