三、Teaching Aims—教学目标
1.Knowledge aim—知识目标:
Words and expressions: completely, shocked, terrorist, take down;
Important sentences: People often remember what they were doing when they heard the news
We were eating dinner in the kitchen when we heard the news on the radio.
Grammar: learn and know the passive voice(被动语态); questions and statements with the past progressive tense(过去进行时态)
2.Ability aim—能力目标:train students’ ability of reading and writing;
Improve their ability of making notes for an important event.
3.Emotional aim—情感目标:
Help students to form a right attitude towards terrorism and use the reasonable ways to solve problems.

Step 1. Lead –in and free talk
Share an important sports event -- China beat South Korea 1:0 at a World Cup qualifier (世界杯预选赛)in the Chinese city of Changsha on March 23,2017
How do you feel about the event Do you remember what you were doing
【目的】:从学生喜欢的足球话题入手,引出最近发生足球大事件,并让学生谈论看法和感受,可以活跃学生气氛,并由此导入本文话题。
Step2:--before reading
First, show the title of the passage and the two pictures in the passage and try to predict what we will talk about this class—尝试引导学生根据标题和图片推测本节课要讨论的内容是什么?

Can you tell how many events we will talk about in the passage
【目的】:引导学生运用通过文章标题和图片推测文章的内容和大意的学习策略,简单的问题引导并层层推进,激发学生的求知欲。

Fast reading—Read Para 1 and answer the questions
Detailed reading—Read Para 2 and complete the chart with four questions
【目的】:本环节首先运用速读法引导学生在第一段迅速获取事件及时间,在获取时间后播放视频让学生了解美国民权运动领袖马丁.路德.金,并了解美国五六十年代的黑人地位及黑人运动,为接下来的阅读做思想和背景知识准备。任务难度较低。然后第二段要求精读,并获取有效信息完成结构图。
Step4:--after reading
Discussion -- Why did they keep silence(保持沉默)
【目的】:让学生通过讨论进一步理解这一事件,并引导学生用正确的态度对待恐怖谋杀行为。
Step5:--The second event.(这一部分的处理方式与第一个事件基本相同)
1 before reading—show the picture of World Trade Center on the text and ask students where it is.
【目的】:通过展示图片让学生了解美国世贸中心大楼的相关知识,为接下来的阅读进行铺垫。
2 While reading
Fast reading—Read Para 3 and find what was the event and when
Show a short video about 9.11 event to let students know it well.
Detailed reading—Read Para4 and complete the chart with four questions
【目的】:本环节首先运用速读法引导学生在第一段迅速获取事件及时间,然后播放9.11时间视频让学生更真实的感受这一震惊中外的事件。然后第二段要求精读,并获取有效信息完成结构图。

【目的】:让学生通过讨论9.11事件,并结合与马丁.路德.金事件的共同点,再次倡导学生应该热爱和平,引导学生反对待恐怖谋杀行为,要用理性的方式解决问题。
Step6:--retell the two events with the key words given.
【目的】:本环节的设计实在前期阅读任务铺垫的基础上进行的,能帮助学生比较轻松的理清脉络,在复述中可以练习过去进行时态。
Step7:--writing and show
1.writing tips--根据上一环节复述中使用的结构图进行分析,清晰的为学生呈现了写作的构成要素,为学生进行了阅读技巧的指导。
2.talk in your group—利用课堂初引入的球赛事件、萨德部署事件、以及女排里约奥运会夺冠事件等,让学生展开讨论,也可以讨论其他学生感兴趣的大事件。

The trick happened in April in 1936.
The actor said aliens landed on the moon.
People believed the story because it was real.
When they knew the hoax, hundreds of people
had left their homes.
One of the world’s most famous tricks, however, happened in October rather than in April. In that month in 1938, actor Orson Welles announced on his radio program that aliens from Mars had landed on the earth. He described where they had landed and told how they were moving across the United States. Welles made it sound so real that hundreds of people believed the story, and fear spread across the whole country. By the time police officers announced that the story was a hoax, thousands of people had left their homes.
