Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related to math.
However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. Green’s class.
Mr. Green always greeted us with open arms as he said. “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. Green had a true passion(热情)not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. Green ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. Green greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. Green’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. Green weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. Green. We didn’t know it at that time, but he was changing our attitudes.
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down. but Mr. Green kept reminding me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”
24.What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A.Dream. B.Dislike. C.Duty. D.Passion.
25.What first made the author look forward to math class
A.Mr. Green’s attitude. B.Her interest in math.
C.Her friends’ encouragement. D.The top achievers in her class.
26.How did the author change in math
A.She made slow progress.
B.She fell in love with math.
C.She became a straight-A math student.
D.She became comfortable with hard math.
27.Which of the following can best describe Mr. Green
A.Honest and humorous. B.Strong and friendly.
C.Strict and responsible. D.Passionate and active.

For hundreds of years, America’s wilderness has been reduced due to growing cities, leaving outdoors lovers like hunters with fewer chances. By around 1900, too much hunting drove America’s deer nearly into extinction, less than a half-million deer, from 45 million in 1450.
Law makers began to make rules to protect deer and keep ecological balance(生态平衡)。And it did make a big difference. By 2000, the deer population had comé up to 38 million. Those days, millions of deer lived side by side with humans and could freely find enough food resources.
Gradually, the number of deer was increasing too rapidly, which was not good for both the animals and people. City hunting plays an important role in keeping ecological balance. particularly in places where the animals sometimes cause major problems.
“City deer hunting is a management practice used in many cities and suburban areas across the United States,” says Jason Andrews, program manager of the Urban Deer Hunt in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the early 2000s, a high number of car accidents were caused by deer. And there was also significant vegetation degradation(植被退化)in many cities. Many possible solutions were researched by the city government. Some suggested hunting deer and other wild animals, but others were against that practice.
In the end, researchers determined that the most effective and sustainable(可持续的)population management solution would be hunting with hows. “City deer hunting is popular in cities that have too many wild deer as well as wooded areas,” says Andrews. “In Cedar Rapids, all parts of the city have right habitats to keep deer population, thus hunting is allowed. I must note that hunting is only allowed on private lands. No parks or any other public grounds can be hunted.”
28.What can we learn from paragraph 1
A.The deer population was dropping rapidly.

B.The Number of Deer in the US
C.People’s Attitude to Deer Hunting

Due to social events in recent years, the relationship between social media and teenagers mental health has been under heated discussion.
On Sept.30, a British court decided that content on social media platforms led to the depression(抑郁)of 14-year-old Molly Russell. Russell interacted with 2.100 posts related to pessimistic(悲观)and self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website.
The correlation has also been proved by science. A study in 2019 showed that the frequent use of social media by teenagers can lead to a decrease in their mental health.
So, how can we make sure that teenagers won’t get hurt while using social media Chan,18, from the University of Macao shared her experience. Chan said that she one cam e across short videos romanticizing(浪漫化)mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. She immediately reported them to the platform.
But she said that the users’ power to control videos is still limited. “It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to get rid of content that is potentially harmful.” She also noticed that the age of social media users has become increasingly younger. Society should pay attention to this, she said. “Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’(监管模式)with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand ” she said.
Wu Chengyu,18, studies at Tianjin Experimental High School. He said that several years ago he came across a game that attracts teenagers to self-abuse and depression. He quickly chose to ignore it so he wouldn’t be influenced. This is the same way he reacts when exposed to negative content on social media.
In Wu’s opinion, teenagers today should improve their social media literacy(素养)。telling real from fake and good from bad. “Also, everyone can be a content creator on social media.” he said. “We should all strengthen our awareness of ethics”.
32.What led to Russell’s depression according to a British court
A.Her interaction with others online.
B.Negative information on social media platforms.
33.Which of the following statements does Chan probably agree with
A.A supervision mode ought to be introduced by parents.

A.Parents. B.Schools.
C.Social media platforms. D.Content creators.
35.What does Wu suggest teenagers should do

Why are you doing this I often hear that or similar questions. Many people don’t understand why I like travelling by bicycle. 36 But for me, it’s the best way to travel.
When I sit on the bike, I am free and flexible. I can stop at any time to cat or start the stove to enjoy a coffee with breathtaking views. I’m not dependent on bus or train, 37 I come to places I would never have seen. My bike makes it possible for me not to plan beforehand, which leaves space for adventure. Because adventures don’t come around the corner during a planned hotel: vacation.
1 am in the nature the whole day. The wind blows across my face. 38 I see monkeys hanging directly above me in the tree, whales swimming along the cost, a bear waving at us and many more animals. Smelling the blackberries, I’m stopping to fill my stomach. In the car, bus or train, I would have missed all of these.
39 Some long-term cyclists spend 4,000 dollars per year or less. And I spend about 350—450 dollars a month. This is due to two reasons: I have no transport costs. And I also have the freedom of wild camping, during which I can cook for myself. All these factors contribute to a cheap travel.
I could tell hundreds of stories. Because of getting to know so many people, I have experienced a lot. The travel form itself invites many to ask questions. And the best thing about it is that all these stories make me rich. I’m rich in memories, of which I always think with laughter. 40

I was a freshman in high school, eager to start a new chapter in my life. Little did I know that my journey would be marked by an unexpected friendship. My deskmate, Tom, was a stutterer(结巴). Sometimes, it made me really uncomfortable.
The first day of school was exciting. I found my seat and settled in, only to be greeted by a nervous stutter from my deskmate. “H-Hello, I’m T-Tom.” he said. I tried to be polite. but inside, I felt embarrassed. I was worried about how his stuttering would affect me. especially during class discussions. I avoided him as much as possible, not wanting to be associated with the awkwardness he seemed to bring.
One day, during a particularly challenging math class, I was struggling to understand a complex problem. The teacher, Mrs. Lee, noticed my confusion and asked if I needed help. noticeable under the pressure. To my surprise, he explained the problem clearly; and I began to see him in a new light. His intelligence and kindness shone through his stutter, and I felt guilty(内疚的)for my previous behavior.
As the weeks went by, I started to pay more attention to Tom. My friends noticed the change and asked about it. I shared my initial dislike and later admiration for Tom. They encouraged me to give him a chance, reminding me that everyone has their struggles. My parents, too, noticed my shift in attitude and discussed the importance of empathy and understanding. They told me about the times they faced difficulties, showing me that everyone has strengths beyond what people might see as weaknesses.
