The story began on a boring Friday afternoon, and everyone was looking forward to finishing class and going home. As our teacher gave out our Time for Kids magazines, I was thinking about my plan to buy a toy on the weekend. However, one small article in the magazine caught my eyes, and changed my life. It was a story about the activities against malaria (疟疾).
Other students had their eyes stuck on the clock, but mine were in the article. From it I learned malaria kills one million people each year. I felt like crying. "How can we prevent malaria " I asked myself. I also learned malaria often happens in Asia, and people there tie bed-nets (蚊帐) over their beds to prevent the insects from biting them during the night. What could I do for them That night I was sleepless, and the article stayed in my mind. I decided to do something.
I thought of some ways to raise money. I thought about organizing a dance party—doing something more than putting up notices at school. Later, I decided to put the matter in my own hands. My birthday was coming, and on the invitation to it, I asked my friends to bring donations (捐款) for bed-nets instead of gifts. I raised $400 at the party.
Weeks later I got an invitation to a friend's birthday party. As I was looking at the invitation carefully, something caught my eyes: "Sophie asks you to bring donations to buy bed-nets instead of gifts." I smiled to find that I made somebody else do as I did.
I could never think of the amazing feeling that comes from giving.

Once a king got two nice falcons (猎鹰) from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly.
After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was staying on the branch of a tree quietly, just keeping still. The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could solve this problem. He asked a farmer who lived in the forest to go into his palace to train it at once.
The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. "It is unbelievable!" shouted the king. How could you make it happen ”
The farmer replied, "It's very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested."
