①Have you ever shaken on a cold day You may not have noticed, but as you shake, your body warms up. Shaking is one way your body stays warm. It happens when messages are sent from the nervous system(神经系统)to the muscles(肌肉). This is how it works.
②The nervous system has two parts. One part is the nerves. They look like long, thin lines. Their job is to carry messages to all parts of the body. The spinal cord(脊髓)and the brain make up the other part of the nervous system. Messages from the brain travel down the spinal cord. They go to the rest of the body through the nerves. Muscles receive these messages.
③Imagine waiting for a bus on a street corner. It s a cold day, the bus is late, and you feel cold. Here s what happens.
④A control center in your brain senses that you re cold. It transmits a message down the spinal cord to all the nerves. The message races through nerves that connect to other nerves. Then it goes from the nerves to the muscles. The message says, "Warning! Prepare for action!"
⑤When a muscle moves, it makes heat. That is why you get warm when you run or play soccer. When your muscles get the message that you are cold, they get busy. First they tighten(收缩), then they loosen(松). They tighten then loosen over and over again. This makes you shake. You also get warmer.

A.By showing an event. B.By giving an example.

2.Which of the following about the nerves is TRUE
A.They lie in the spinal cord of the body.
B.Messages from the brain travel down them.

3.What does the underlined word "transmits" mean

It is believed in some ways that the daughter is the father's lover. But my experience has taught me in a different way. For a long time my father has been a very vague figure(模糊的形 象)to me. He was a man of few words, tall but slim and nothing else.
When I was in primary school, my father was never there to pick me up, and he never came to any of my parent-teacher meeting. He was always busy doing projects. I remember when I was in middle school, my head was badly hurt in a PE class. During my operation,my father was nowhere to be found. This hurt me most. At that moment, I considered( 认 为 )my father as a cold-blooded man who did not care about me at all.
But things seemed different at my high school graduation ceremony(毕业典礼), where I was chosen to represent my class to give a speech. My father, once again, told me he had a business trip in a place outside the city and would be unable to show up(露面). "Don't come. I will be very nervous if I see you," I told him.
I remember my speech went smoothly. After the ceremony was over and I was about to leave, I suddenly noticed a familiar-looking man sitting in a corner of the hall. It was my father! I was so surprised that I rushed to him with tears running down my face. "Well done," he said. His eyes were also filled with tears.
Later, I found out that my father had managed to finish his work by staying up late, and he drove for eight hours to get back. He had been sitting in the corner because he didn't want me to see him. My father remembered every word in my speech.
For much of my life, I described my father as a cold blooded man who only cared about his work. But when I thought deeply about this, it was obviously not true. At my graduation ceremony, I could feel my father's deep love. The fact is that seeing is not believing, and seeing may not be the fact if we don't perceive(感知) the world with our hearts and minds. There's no doubt that life doesn't lack(缺少) love, but sometimes our eyes have trouble seeing it.
5.What was her father's figure to the writer at first
A.A man full of words and warm-hearted.
B.A man of few words and nothing special.
C.A tall and strong man who is wise and hard-working.
D.A cruel and cold-blooded man.

A.The writer's father was in the hospital during her operation.
B.The writer's father attended her high school graduation ceremony.
C.The writer's father picked her up when she was in primary school.
D.The writer's father went to parent-teacher meetings when she was in primary school.
7.The writer rushed to her father with tears running down her face mainly because ________.
A.she gave a speech smoothly
B.the graduation ceremony was over
C.she was so nervous that she couldn't help crying
D.she was touched to find her father cared about her
8.What's the best title for the passage
A.My Busy Father B.Life Is Full of Love
C.Seeing Is Not Believing D.A Wonderful Speech

People all love watching fireworks. But let s stop and think about the price we pay for just a few minutes of excitement.
First, the amount of money we spend on fireworks is too much. The excitement is gone in a moment. What we really are doing is burning money. Yet, year after year, thousands of cities and towns spend our tax(税)dollars on firework shows. Those tax dollars would be put into much better use feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.
Second, there is the matter of pollution. Fireworks have chemicals(化学品)that are harmful to people and animals. Over the years, these chemicals will pollute the air we breathe and the water we drink.
Third, let s consider the rubbish left behind after a firework show. What a mess! We would expect that those who set off the fireworks would pick up the rubbish afterwards. But they don t. The mess they leave behind shows the kind of attitude(态度)many people have towards our environment.
__________ Some fireworks can hurt your hearing, especially the fireworks used in public shows that give off a big BANG. Hearing loss costs too much to pay for. Besides all the safety warnings, we still see hurts and deaths as a result of fireworks. About 10,000 Americans are hurt every year by fireworks. According to the Council on Fireworks Safety, children from the ages of five to fourteen are the ones most often hurt. Those sparklers(烟花棒)that seem so harmless cause 10% of the hurts.
In my opinion, all fireworks should be stopped selling. Public firework shows should be paid for through volunteer money, not tax dollars. Finally, those people playing with firework shows should be responsible for cleaning up the mess they make.
9.What does the underlined word " they" in Paragraph 4 refer to
A.Those people who set off the fireworks.
B.Those people who pick up the rubbish.
C.Those people who care about the environment.
D.Those people who breathe the polluted air and drink the polluted water.

A.Fourth, fireworks are dangerous.
B.Fourth, hearing is important to us.
C.Fourth, fireworks are too expensive.
D.Fourth, there are too many kinds of fireworks.
11.Which of the following ideas would the writer agree with
A.Public firework shows should be paid for by tax dollars.
B.The money people spend on fireworks should be better spent helping others.
C.Hearing loss is a small price to pay for the excitement that fireworks provide.
D.A small number of harmful chemicals in fireworks are nothing to be worried about.
12.What s the writer s purpose (目的)of writing the passage
A.To talk about firework safety.
B.To express opinions on fireworks.
C.To describe different kinds of fireworks.
D.To talk about noise during firework shows.

Hollywood is part of Los Angeles, California. It used to be the historical centre of movie studios and movie stars. And the word" Hollywood" was often used as a
metonymy (借代) of American cinema. But things are different there. Hollywood isn't quite the same as it used to be. Costs have gone up and confidence has gone down. Movie-makers are afraid to spend their money on expensive new ideas.

They use modern cameras and real houses instead of expensively made copies in a studio. Other states, especially Florida and Texas are working hard to take the film business away from California. They are offering better working conditions and lower costs.

"Compared to travelling, such social practice connects us and makes us learn how tough our parents are," said Dalin, 18, to the City Morning Post. Dalin, a senior high graduate, and her 12-year-old brother Xiaolin came up with the idea.
They learned to work hard to sell their vegetables. Every morning they had to wake up at 3 o'c1ock. Some of them went to the farmer's market to buy vegetables. Some of them went to the local market to take up a temporary stall (临时摊位). To 1ower the cost, they learned to bargain (讲价) with the sellers.
At about 6:30 am, they began to sell vegetables. They peddled (吆喝) 1oudly to attract (吸引) customers. After severa1 days, they got some experience too. For example, it was better to put vegetables in order and bigger ones on top. When the vegetables are too heavy, they should give customers an extra plastic bag.
When they finally packed up and went home, they had a small meeting. Everyone took notes and shared their feelings. "We are tired," said Dalin. "But we gained a lot."

For thousands of years, humans(人) have explored (探索) the Earth. Nowadays, we are exploring space. Astronomers (天文学家) are the modern-day explorers. Now, many astronomers are looking for new planets and new places for humans to live in the future. But where do astronomers start exploring
First of all, astronomers look for a star. That's because our own Earth moves around a star— the Sun. More importantly, it is neither too far from nor too near to the Sun for heat and light. So when astronomers have found the star, they look at the planets around it. In recent years, astronomers have found nearly 400 new planets with stars. However, many of these planets are either too near to the star or too far away.
However, if the planet is in a good place, astronomers look for three key things: water, air and rock (岩石). Water is important because all life needs water. Humans can drink it and they can also grow plants with water. And plants produce air for humans to breathe and food to eat. Rock on a planet is also important. That's because there is often water under the rock.
After many years of exploring, astronomers have found a planet like the Earth. It's Gliese 581g and it's near a star. The astronomers think it has water and rock and the temperature is between -31℃ and -12℃. That's cold, but not colder than Antarctica or the Arctic Circle, for example, Gliese 581g is bigger than the Earth. A year on Gliese 581g is only 37 Earth days, not 365 Earth days. But astronomers do not think these are big differences and some of them think Gliese 581g will be a new Earth. However, Gliese 581g is twenty light years from the Earth.
(1)How do astronomers discover a new planet for humans to live on Choose the right order.
a. Astronomers look for three key things.
b. Astronomers look for and find a right star.
c. Astronomers look at the planets around the star.
A.a-b-c. B.b-a-c. C.b-c-a. D.c-a-b.
(2)According to paragraph 3, which of the following things is the most important
A.Water. B.Air. C.Rock. D.Food.
(3)What does the underlined word "it" in paragraph 4 refer to
A.the Earth B.Gliese 581g C.the Sun D.Gliese
(4)What's the main idea of the text
A.Gliese 581g is already a new Earth.
B.There are some planets like our Earth.
C.Water, air and rock are important.
