Most anima ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ls have little connection with animals of a different kind, unless they hunt them for food. Sometimes, however, two kinds of animals come together in a partnership (伙伴关系) which is good for both of them. You may have noticed some birds sitting on the backs of sheep. This is not because they want a ride, but because they find easy food in the parasites (寄生虫) on sheep. The sheep allow the birds to do so because they remove the cause of discomfort. So although they can manage without each other, they do better together.
Sometimes an animal has a plant partner. The relationship develops until the two partners cannot manage without each other. This is so in the corals (珊瑚) of the sea. In their skins they have tiny plants which act as“dustman”, taking some of the waste products from the coral and giving in return oxygen which the animal needs to breathe. If the plants are killed, or are even prevented from light so that they cannot live normally, the corals will die.
21.Some birds like to sit on a sheep because ________.
A.they can eat its parasites
B.they depend on the sheep for existence
C.they enjoy traveling with the sheep

23.We learn from th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e text that the coral depends on the plant for ________.
A.comfort B.light C.food D.oxygen

C.Some plants depend on each other for food.
D.Some animals live better together.

Papa, as a son ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )of a dirt-poor farmer, left school early and went to work in a factory, for education was for the rich then. So, the world became his school. With great interest, he read everything he could lay his hands on, listened to the town elders and learned about the world beyond his tiny hometown. "There's so much to learn," he'd say. "Though we're born stupid, only the stupid remain that way. " He was determined that none of his children would be denied ( 拒绝) an education.
Thus, Papa insiste ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )d that we learn at least one new thing each day. Though, as children, we thought this was crazy, it would never have occurred to us to deny Papa a request. And dinner time seemed perfect for sharing what we had learned. We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken lightly. Papa would listen carefully and was ready with some comment, always to the point.
Then came the moment—the time to share the day's new learning.
Papa, at the h ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ead of the table, would push back his chair and pour a glass of red wine, ready to listen.
"Felice," he'd say, "tell me what you learned today. "
"I learned that the population of Nepal is .... "
Silence.
Papa was think ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ing about what was said, as if the salvation(拯救)of the world would depend upon it. "The population of Nepal. Hmm. Well . . . " he'd say. "Get the map; let's see where Nepal is. " And the whole family went on a search for Nepal.
This same exper ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ience was repeated until each family member had a turn. Dinner ended only after we had a clear understanding of at least half a dozen such facts.
As children, ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) we thought very little about these educational wonders. Our family, however, was growing together, sharing experiences and participating in one another's education. And by looking at us, listening to us, respecting our input, affirming(肯定) our value, giving us a sense of dignity, Papa was unquestionably our most influential teacher.
Later during m ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )y training as a future teacher,I studied with some of the most famous educators. They were imparting (传授) what Papa had known all along—the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all my life. Not a single day has been wasted, though I can never tell when knowing the population of Nepal might prove useful.

Forgiveness
To forgive is ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.
36 Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) 37 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don't wa ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )it for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. 38 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the cont ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )rol away from your offender (冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
39 If ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to f ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )orgive yourself. 40 But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.
A. Why should you forgive
B. How should you start to forgive
C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D. Try to see things from you offender's angle.
E. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F. To make your ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.
G. If you wait fo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )r people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.
