A
Traditionally, baby boys are dressed in blue and baby girls are dressed in pink. We are taught this as children.
But as you grow up, this idea doesn’t mean much anymore. Take me, for example. I often wear pink or purple shirts. In fact, I’m wearing a pink shirt while I write this story!
While children might make fun of a boy wearing a pink shirt, I believe there really are no rules about what colors a man or woman can wear. That’s how it is in Australia and I’ve found it to be the case in China as well.
Yes, many men wear plain or even boring clothes in China. But there are many more who are quite happy to wear lots of creative things. Some men in China and Australia pay as much attention to their appearance as women. And in China, I always see men taking selfies (自拍) and posing for photos, just like girls do.
But if you think the idea of boys wearing pink is something new, think again. It isn’t original at all. Kassia St Clair, the writer of The Secret Lives of Color, said it was very different in the 19th century. She explains that pink was a color worn by men in the military (军队). Blue, she says, was the color for girls.
Somehow, over the following 100 years, this got switched (转变) around. But whatever the story is today, don’t let it stop you from wearing whatever color you want!
1.Baby boys typically wear ______ clothes.
A.pink B.purple C.blue D.yellow
2.The writer might be ______.
A.a woman B.a man C.a Chinese person D.a soldier
3.The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 means ______.
A.children can wear clothes in many different colors
B.pink is only for girls
C.boys cannot wear colorful clothes
D.people can wear whatever colors they like
4.Paragraph 5 explains that ______.
A.girls used to wear pink clothes
B.boys wore pink clothes in the past
C.popular colors have changed over time
D.boys used to wear blue clothes
5.What’s the writer’s opinion ______
A.There are no rules for what colors we should wear.
B.It’s uncommon for boys to wear pink clothes.
C.Men should act differently from women.
D.The difference between boys and girls is important.

ASIMO is a robot created by Honda in 2000. ASIMO is now the most human like robot in the world . It can jump, run, walk, climb stairs and even jump on one leg! It can also use its five fully funcitioning (功能 完善的) fingers to hold objects in its hands. ASIMO has cameras for eyes. It can also understand basic orders and is programmed to know American and British Sign Language, so it can communicate with deaf people.
Many people say that ASIMO is a fantastic creation because it can be used to help elderly and disabled people who cannot do basic important tasks, such as cleaning or washing up. In England, more than half of the people aged 75 and over live by themselves, and 5 million of them say that their main form of company (陪伴) comes from the television. The fact that elderly people are feeling lonely in a society which is built around communication through the Internet and social media is really sad.
Personally, although I think ASIMO is an unbelievable invention, I am upset by the fact that we are having to use a robot to deal with such a simple problem. It is a worrying thought that no one seems to care enough about the old people to make an effort to communicate with and be friendly to them. When it is finally released (发布) to be sold to the public. ASIMO will not be cheap, so not every lonely person will be able to afford one. So I really think that we must try our best not to depend on technology to do things that we can do by ourselves. Yes, technology is a wonderful thing and ASIMO is a mind-blowing creation, but we should not use its existence as an excuse not to make the effort to care for the old people.
1.The first paragraph mainly tells us about ASIMO’s ___________.
A.development B.future C.movement D.function
2.In many people’s opinion, ASIMO is great because ___________.
A.no other companies have such a creation
B.it is helpful to the elderly and disabled
C.some lonely people can chat with it freely
D.it can help people to do everything
3.The underlined word “mind-blowing” in Paragraph 3 most probably means “___________”.
A.exciting B.terrible C.boring D.useless
4.What’s the writer’s attitude towards depending on robots to look after the old people
A.Supportive. B.Doubtful. C.Against. D.Pleased.
5.What’s the main purpose of the writer’s writing the passage
A.To tell us how to communicate with the old people.
B.To show how fantastic technology is.
C.To explain why Honda created ASIMO.
D.To encourage people to provide more care for the old people.

For some students, getting better grades can seem like an impossible task sometimes. With the challenges of school, just paying attention in class or studying hard isn’t always enough. But what if there were other ways for students to improve their grades For parents and students who have ever wondered if this is possible, now you can stop worrying. Research suggests that a person who likes doing activities can improve their grades.
Scientists think that those students who are active are not just exercising their bodies, but also exercising their brains. In turn, they can be able to improve their grades at school.
In the most recent study, researchers found that when children played for half an hour each day, they were better at organizing their schoolwork as well as doing project work and learning traditionally “difficult” subjects, such as math.
What does this mean for children who aren’t active Researchers think that if kids don’t get enough activities, they are going to be at a disadvantage when it comes to school performance.
In the research experiment, a group of children skipped with ropes (跳绳), played basketball and did a number of other games or exercises. Another group of children didn’t do any activities. They took part in testing both before experiment and after the experiment. Testing was mainly for math and reading skills. Results showed that the children in the activity group did better on the tests than those who had no activity.
All work and no play will not only make Jack a dull (迟钝的) boy, but will also negatively (消极地) affect his grades in school, according to a new study published in the Journal of Pediatrics.
Parents complain children today are actually less active and they always worry about their grades. Dr. Belton, an expert, said, “If you’d like to see your kids do better in school, have them close their books, set down their pencils and go outside to play.”

Ten years ago, I made a decision. This decision has greatly changed the way I communicate with others, the way I spend my free time and what I research, although I did not know it at the time.
It wasn’t long after I got my first smartphone that I began to notice that I couldn’t pay attention to my work all the time. I also noticed that smartphones didn’t just influence people at work. They competed for our attention when we spent time even with the closest people in our lives. A year after buying my smartphone, I decided that I was going to research whether smartphones influence happiness.
Since then, my partners and I have done a lot of experiments. We’ve found that friends with their phones on the table while eating enjoyed the experience less than those sharing a meal with their phones put away. In another study, parents asked to be on their phones while enjoying a science museum with their children found the experience less meaningful than parents asked to limit (限制) their phone use.
Based on these results, you might think I believe that smartphones are ruining our lives. I’ve even had friends tell me that they are more self-conscious (自觉的). When they use their phones around me. The truth is that I neither hate my phone nor judge the way others use their phones.
However, I have to say that the research has influenced the way I use my phone. I usually put it on silent, so that I have more control over my attention. In fact, I would argue that my smartphone has improved my happiness. With it in my pocket wherever I go, I can save time when ordering my morning coffee, finding the best restaurant or doing my banking. What’s more, without my smartphone, I would not have met my husband.
1.What decision did the author make ten years ago
A.To buy a smartphone.
B.To study if phones influence happiness.
C.To pay less attention to work.
D.To spend more time with loved ones.

A.its examples B. its purpose C. its results D. its steps
3.What does the underlined word “ruining” probably`mean
A.Making...shorter. B.Making...worse.
C.Making... harder. D.Making...busier.
4.Which of the following does the author agree with
①The phone saves her a lot of time.
②The phone keeps her family life busy.
③The phone has helped her find a life partner.
④The phone makes her more focused on work.
A.①④ B.②③ C.①③ D.②④

Many kids do housework such as doing the dishes, making the bed, and folding the clothes. In exchange, they get some money or other computer time. Paying kids for housework is one of the most popular topics, especially at a time when everyone is more careful about money. Some parents think since adults are paid to do their jobs, we should pay kids for everyday housework.
But some people don’t think kids should get rewards(报酬) for doing housework. Susie Walton, an expert, believe that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn’t worth doing unless you get something in return. “Running any kind of housework is a team effort,” Walton said. “A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all have responsibilities in the house, and families decide how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like what they want.”
Other people believe that getting a reward encourages kids to do housework, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to get money. There are also apps(程序) that gives kids points and digital gifts that can be redeemed(兑现) either online or in the real world. “Our goal is to give kids lawful power so they can get rewards,” says Chris Bergman. “And kids need rewards to help encourage them. ”

Nowadays, people often go to another country to study or to work. Many find it difficult to adapt (适应), though. According to the research, up to 70% of adults experience homesickness at some point in their daily life.
Almost anything can cause homesickness -a smell, a taste, even a color can remind them of home. Mohammed Barakat sent us a message on Facebook about his longing for “the smell of rain and green” during the Sudanese rainy season, Mari Damian misses “the smell of Christmas cakes”. “I feel a bit sad today because I’m homesick. I miss the delicious plates of spaghetti with a special sauce my mother used to make. She is a great cook. But I work abroad and I have to deal with occasional (偶尔的) feeling,” said a young man.
According to Dr. Susan Matt, who wrote a book about the subject, people used to see it as a dangerous disease. The ancient Greek poem Homer’s Odyssey talked about it. But the modern term was created in the 17th century to describe the feelings of Swiss soldiers, who longed for their homeland while fighting elsewhere in Europe. They suffered great depression.
Modern technology can limit this feeling, allowing people to keep in touch with loved ones easily. Skype is a lifeline because it can allow grandparents far away to watch their grandchildren grow up. People should not allow homesickness to stop them living in the present. I follow advice given by Dr. Wood: I write down three new things that I've been grateful for every night, as well as three things I'm looking forward to most every morning.
What about you Have you experienced homesickness What do you miss when you are away from your home and family

Have you ever heard that “Success is a journey, not a destination(终点)" As a man aged 30, I believe it's true. It is, in fact, my law of life. In my eyes, what matters is not necessarily where you are in the end, but what you achieve while you are trying along the way. It means that no matter what it is, as long as you try, you can never fail. It means you can learn from your mistakes and continue on the next journey a little more wisely.
I think St. Louis Rams, a professional American football team in Missouri, as a whole shared my law of life. They played every game with their full potential(潜能)instead of letting a few winning games got to their heads. They had the goal of playing in every Super Bowl, a football game played in the US each year on the first Sunday in February. Even though they lost some games, they didn't give up.
It doesn't matter if you don't have the ability to be on top in the end, or to win the game. What matters is that you worked hard the whole time. You should understand that success is a non-ending journey. Everyone should realize that someone will win and someone will lose. But what's important is that both sides need to try their best. After all, it's not who wins or loses, but how well you play the game and you should remember this in your own life.

A discussion about whether students should be allowed to use mobile phones at school is held in an English class. There are some different opinions among the students and the teacher.
Student A:
We are preparing for adults’ life. So we should be allowed to use the tools that we will use in our adult life. When we go to work, the need to use mobile phones will be very strong. Not preparing us for that world is thoughtless (欠考虑的).
