If you have ever been disappointed because you don't have a good gardener, the clever robot may one day become the helper of your indoor plants.
The Hexa Plant is a six-legged robot that has been specially made to care for the potted (盆栽的) plant that it carries on top of its head. Using light and heat sensors(传感器), the robot has the ability to carry its plant in and out of the daylight. If the houseplant needs more sun, the Hexa will walk into the sunlight; and if the houseplant is getting too hot, the Hexa will go back into the area that blocks direct light. The Hexa Plant will even do a little dance when it senses that the plant needs to be watered to warn its owner.
The robot was developed by Vincross engineer and founder Sun Tianqi after he saw a dead Sunflower sitting in the darkness in a room back in 2014. "Plants only receive an action without responding(回应):" Sun Tianqi wrote in a blog post. "Whether they are being cut, bitten, burned or pulled from the earth, or when they haven't received enough sunshine, water, or are too hot or cold, they will hold still and take whatever is happening to them."
According to Sun Tianqi, for billions of years, plants have never experienced movement of any kind, not even the simplest movement. In their whole lives, they stick to where they were born. Sun Tianqi continued, "Do they want to break their own settings or have a tendency (趋向) towards this I do not know the answer, but I would love to try to share some of this human tendency and technology with plants. With the help of the robot, plants can have a trial to move."
The Hexa Plant model robots are not for sale, though Vincross does sell a Hexa robot model. It is said that in the near future the robots can open up a new market to watch over our household plants

Can you survive an unannounced storm Although there is expert broadcasting and we are equipped with cellphones, there are still some examples when the violent weather takes us by surprise.
While most Atlantic hurricanes form off the coast of Africa giving plenty of early warning, sudden Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico hurricanes form and move rapidly in less than a day's time, endangering everyone and everything in their path.
There have been oil workers trapped off the coast when sudden storms appeared. Field archaeologists have been stuck in seaside areas without storm warnings. A few decades ago, a Texas National Guard group was trapped on the beach by rain-forced flooding and had to ride out a major hurricane during a training exercise. There've been a few cases where travelers were trapped on an island or in a seaside area and unable to escape in time.
Escaping from the storm-threatened areas is generally a choice for most of us - but not for all. Each year thousands of islanders across the Caribbean face the danger of hurricanes without a public shelter to hide in. Most ride out the storm in their homes.
But there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself for some unexpected emergencies. Being prepared for the unexpected may be your best and only defense. If you're headed outdoors for a few days or weeks, you should always carry a flashlight (手电筒) with extra batteries, a GPS device (装置), and a basic medical box. If you're traveling in your car, remember you may suffer from high winds. You'd better not stay inside to avoid being blown away along with your car. Keeping your head and your courage up is crucial to survival in any type of danger. Let common sense guide you and always be prepared for the worst.

B.To encourage traveling.
C.To underline the danger of hurricanes.
D.To give some warnings.
11.(2.5分)In which part of a website would you most probably find the text
A.Food. B.Sports. C.Life. D.Culture.

In the tropical rainforest, there always exist battles, ones to claim the tree's dead body and the vast amount of nutrients that it contains. It's a battle that is fought throughout the natural world, involving a group of organisms that humans rarely notice.
On the floor of a tropical rainforest, it's dark, humid and hot, providing ideal conditions for fungi (真菌). Humans normally think of fungi as things like this— mushrooms of one kind or another. But these are just the fruiting bodies. They exist for most of the time hidden in the leaf litter and the earth as a network of fine white threads.
The threads of competing fungi envelop their victim's body, releasing enzymes (酶) which digest the tree's tissues and unlock the nutrients within. There are a million or so different species of fungi in the tropics. Some feed on dead plants. Others eat them alive. And some reveal their existence in an eerily beautiful way. In Africa, in Congo, this is known as chimpanzee fire. The mysterious glow becomes brighter as the fungi digests the tree. When fungi have fed sufficiently, they develop their reproductive organs.
Each can produce literally billions of spores (孢子), the tiny particles that carry the species' genetic blueprint. Each spore like this has the potential to kill a tree. The spores are so light that they can be carried by the slightest air currents. At least a billion float above every square meter of rainforest.
Recently, it has been discovered that these spores do far more than just bring death and decay. They are, in fact, at the very center of the rainforest's life support system. High in the humid air, the spores combine with molecules of water. Gradually, they collect into droplets, which fall as rain when they are heavy enough. Over two-and-a-half meters of rain falls every year in a rainforest. And in the center of almost every raindrop, there is a fungal spore.
12.(2.5分)What can we learn from paragraph 1

B.Battles for nutrients occur in the rainforest.
C.Wild nature is being conquered by humans.
D.People are fully aware of the natural world.
13.(2.5分)What is the role of fungi in a tropical rainforest ecosystem

B.It glows to exist in the rainforest and produce billions of spores.
C.It fights against each other to occupy ideal conditions for its living.
D.It decomposes plants and releases nutrients back into the ecosystem.
14.(2.5分)How do fungal spores contribute to the rainforest's life support system
A.They combine with water molecules to form raindrops.
B.They facilitate the water cycle by reproducing more spores.
C.They float in the air to cool down the climate in the rainforest.
D.They contribute to dealing with the dead trees and bring new life.
15.(2.5分)What can be a suitable title for the text
A.The Mysterious Facts in the Rainforest
B.The Formation of Fungi in the Rainforest
C.The Challenge Fungi Face in the Rainforest

I was born and grew up in a small seaside town. In my childhood, I often played on the beach with my elder sister, chasing (追逐) the waves and enjoying the seaside scenery.
One sunny summer afternoon, my sister and I were playing on a big rock quite a distance from the beach. We were so happy that we didn't notice the water rising. When we decided to go back, we were shocked to find that the rock had almost been covered by water and there was no way back to the shore. Meanwhile, the wind blew harder and harder. We got into a panic, waving and shouting crazily towards the shore. Suddenly, I slipped (滑) and fell into the sea. My sister stretched out her hand to catch hold of me. However, she could not stay still, and slid off the rock into the sea, too.
"Help! Help!" We cried. I could feel my body tingling (酸麻) as I tried to breathe for air. I attempted to swim back to the rock, but the water was too deep and the waves were too strong. What made things worse was that the rough water made it almost impossible for anyone to hear our cries. Tears mixed with the water as I struggled in the sea. My sister, although using all her strength, wasn't able to pull me in. Instead, she was being pushed apart from me by the big waves. The two of us, scared to death, kept crying.
Luckily, two boys playing on the beach happened to see us. They quickly found a stick nearby and approached us cautiously, hand in hand. They tried to pull us ashore with the stick. But the stick was too short for us to reach. Worse still, the wind was getting so strong that the two boys were rocked from side to side, unable to stand steadily. Eventually, they had no choice but to go back to the shore to look for other people to help us.

I hope this email finds you well. Last week, I had the exciting opportunity to explore our school's newly opened smart library. I just can't wait to share with you my experience.
Upon entering the smart library, I was impressed by the cozy atmosphere with intelligent lighting and its advanced digital tools like tablets, Al-powered book recommendation systems and smart book checkout systems. The Al-powered book recommendation systems were fascinating giving me access to my desired resources instantly via tablets. Then there was a virtual reality corner where I experienced immersive reading. I also tried the smart book checkout systems, which made the borrowing process quick and easy.
My experience was incredibly refreshing. The cutting-edge technology allowed personalized access to library services, thus making studying more engaging and efficient. I expect to see how this smart library will continue to evolve and benefit our school community, How about libraries in your area

52.【答案】Another huge wave crashed over my head and pulled me under. I struggled desperately, trying to reach the surface, but couldn't make it. Seeing this, my sister swam as hard as she could towards me. "Hold on!" She yelled when she grasped my arm and tried to head for the shore with me. But she was soon physically exhausted and looked terribly pale. I felt a sharp pain in my lungs and could barely breathe. Both of us felt hopeless and thought we were not going to survive!
Fortunately, the two boys managed to find a lifeguard. Having learned what was happening, the lifeguard rushed fearlessly against the strong wind and huge waves. Such an experienced swimmer was he that he reached us in no time. He grabbed my arm and quickly carried me to the shore, where he left me taken care of by the two boys. Then, without delay, he returned to save my sister. We were so blessed to be alive and heartily thankful to that courageous lifeguard and the two boys who had saved our lives!
