二、阅读理解[十堰中考]
I have an 11-year-old son named Peter. I knew that playing sports would be good to our son. He would get some exercise , learn about teamwork and learn some physical skills. We continually encouraged him to have a try , but after a while it was clear that he didn ’t like team sports , and there was nothing we could do to change it.
We decided not to push him to take part in sports , even though most of his friends did sports. As time went by , we gradually realized that we had made the right decision. Don ’t misunderstand(误解) me. I have nothing against sports. Now my son isn ’t interested in sports , but I ’m not pushing him to do sports. Here are the reasons:
I want him to know I accept him unconditionally. I don ’t even want Peter to feel that I will love him only if he behaves in a certain way or takes part in some activities. Whether he succeeds or fails , he will always be my son , and that will never change.
I want him to form his own path(道路) in life. His path doesn ’t have to be the same as mine. In fact , we both have similar interests in several areas like music, computers and reading , but we ’re also different in many ways. Peter needs to be free to go his own path.
I want him to know that I don ’t judge(判断) my worth by his achievements. Every father willfeel proud ofhis son if he can make great achievements. So most parents always push them so hard. Sometimes we have seen ourselves indirectly through our own sons. Their achievements remind us ofour wonderful days in the past. We must make sure we don ’t want to make up for(弥补) our own regrets by pushing our sons to climb higher and go further than we did.
1.The advantages of doing sports don ’t include_____________.
A.getting some exercise
B.getting some exam skills
C.learning about teamwork
D.learning some physical skills
2.What was the writer ’s final decision?
A.Our son must master a kind of sport.
B.He should do the same thing as his friends.
C.We didn ’t push him to do sports he disliked.
D.We would push him to find what he was good at.
3.[词义猜测]What does the underlined word “unconditionally ” mean?
A.慎重地 B.无条件地
C.不耐烦地 D.犹豫地
4.How many reasons does the father give for not pushing his son to take part in sports?

Do you remember things that your mom and dad said again and again when you were a kid?
Julia
Of course! I always liked doing dangerous things—you know, climbing trees and things. And my dad said, “If you fall, you’ll break your leg.” And he always added, “And when you break your leg, don’t come running to me for help!” I didn’t understand the joke for years!

Oh, of course! My little brother and me, we loved TV and we sat and watched it for hours every day. And my mom always said, “If you watch TV all the time, you’ll get square eyes.” Well, we watched a lot of TV and our eyes are still normal. Haha!

You reminded me, Peter. My dad always said, “If you eat all your carrots, you’ll see in the dark.” I really like carrots—I ate them when I was a kid and I eat them now—but I still can’t see in the dark!

If I was angry or upset, I always made a face, and my mom said, “If you go on making that face, the wind will change and your face will stay like that forever!” That’s the only one I remember—but I think what she said is not true!

二、阅读理解[十堰中考]
I have an 11-year-old son named Peter. I knew that playing sports would be good to our son. He would get some exercise, learn about teamwork and learn some physical skills. We continually encouraged him to have a try, but after a while it was clear that he didn’t like team sports, and there was nothing we could do to change it.
We decided not to push him to take part in sports, even though most of his friends did sports. As time went by, we gradually realized that we had made the right decision. Don’t misunderstand(误解) me. I have nothing against sports. Now my son isn’t interested in sports, but I’m not pushing him to do sports. Here are the reasons:
I want him to know I accept him unconditionally. I don’t even want Peter to feel that I will love him only if he behaves in a certain way or takes part in some activities. Whether he succeeds or fails, he will always be my son, and that will never change.
I want him to form his own path(道路) in life. His path doesn’t have to be the same as mine. In fact, we both have similar interests in several areas like music, computers and reading, but we’re also different in many ways. Peter needs to be free to go his own path.
I want him to know that I don’t judge(判断) my worth by his achievements. Every father will feel proud of his son if he can make great achievements. So most parents always push them so hard. Sometimes we have seen ourselves indirectly through our own sons. Their achievements remind us of our wonderful days in the past. We must make sure we don’t want to make up for(弥补) our own regrets by pushing our sons to climb higher and go further than we did.
1.The advantages of doing sports don’t include_____________.
A.getting some exercise
B.getting some exam skills
C.learning about teamwork
D.learning some physical skills
2.What was the writer’s final decision?
A.Our son must master a kind of sport.
B.He should do the same thing as his friends.
C.We didn’t push him to do sports he disliked.
D.We would push him to find what he was good at.
3.[词义猜测]What does the underlined word “unconditionally” mean?
A.慎重地 B.无条件地
C.不耐烦地 D.犹豫地
4.How many reasons does the father give for not pushing his son to take part in sports?
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
5.[主旨大意]Which sentence can best describe the father in this passage?
A.He is a wise and open-minded father.
B.He doesn’t care about his son’s future.
C.He is brave and knows when to give up.
D.He is rich enough to support the whole family.

Build Good Relationships with Parents
We are supposed to build good relationships with parents.
Because a good family relationship will make our life happier and easier. Here are some things we can do.
Firstly, we can offer to help with housework such as doing the dishes or sweeping the floor so that our parents can have a rest after a day’s work. Secondly, we should communicate with our parents often and be patient with them. Share our happiness and sorrow with them. Last but not least, we should respect our parents at all times. Don’t make them angry and try to take their advice when we disagree with each other.
Parents give us everything they can give. Let’s build good relationships with parents from now on!

What Can We Do to Make Our Home a Happier Place?
Recently, we’ve had a discussion about what we can do to make our home a happier place in our English class.
We’ve shared different ideas.
Some say it’s a good idea to spend more time with our family. They think it’s not good to spend more time on the phone. They believe family members should share happiness and worries. When they meet problems, we can do something to cheer them up. Home is always the first place for us to get help and support. Others think it’s necessary to remember our family’s birthdays and prepare small presents. The feeling of being loved can bring us more pleasure.
In my opinion, showing love to our family is really important. Showing love is the first step to feel love. Sometimes even the smallest things like walking with our family make them happier.
