There is a big food chain in nature. For example, the lion may be one of the strongest animals in the land food chain. The shark is one of the most dangerous animals in the sea. Although there are all kinds of dangerous animals in nature, people are at the top of the whole food chain. Because we can make the animals and plants our food if we want to. But we are facing danger as well. Lots of animals and plants are fewer than before. So we should learn to protect the animals and plants in nature. If we protect animals and plants, we are protecting ourselves.

There are lots of dangerous and terrible insects in Northeastern India, but the tree-bees are the most terrible. They are killers. Unlike most bees, they will sting(叮咬)you only if they are disturbed(打扰), tree-bees will attack(攻击)you in thousands for no reason. And they will chase(追赶)you for your life.
Walking along a dusty road while I was on holiday there last year. I found myself, without the least warning, in the centre of such an attack. The air above me suddenly became thick(厚的)with bees. Though the weather was hot, I felt cold because of them. Until then I had never heard of Indian tree-bees, but I had recently seen a film called “The Angry Swarm” before, it was about killer-bees.
I began running to the village and it was a really hard time, because the killer-bees followed me all the time. When I reached the village, I found some workers building a house. I ran towards them for help. But as soon as the workers saw the bees with me, they ran for safety at top speed.
Soon my eyes have completely closed. I fell into a pile of brick dust. I pushed myself wildly down into it until my head and shoulders were covered. And then I tried hard to get out of the dust, the angry bees made a new attack on me. I was tired out and soon I lost my consciousness(意识).
Later I learned that two quick minded villagers ran to a pile of dry grass and quickly surrounded(包围)me with a thick wall of fire and smoke until the bees were driven away. They stayed with me, taking stings(蜂针)out of my body for the next three hours until a doctor came and gave me further treatment.

Winter is hard for most animals. So some birds and animals fly to the south.
The groundhog (土拨鼠), however, deals with winter differently. As soon as it feels the weather turning cold, it starts to dig a hole at least five feet underground. There it makes a comfortable home with leaves and grass. It spends the cold winter months in its underground bed and it won’t wake up until spring.
The groundhog doesn’t eat at all during the winter. Instead, it eats as much and as often as it can during the summer. As winter comes, the groundhog becomes so fat that it can hardly move. When it starts to feel sleepy, it goes back to the home and falls into a deep sleep. Its breathing almost stops, its heart slows to about four beats a minute and its body temperature falls to just above 0℃ during the sleep. When it wakes up in spring, its weight (重量) is only half of what it was in the fall. By February or March, it’s ready to leave its hole.
So years ago, when science and technology was less developed, people often waited for the first groundhog to stick its head out above ground as it showed that spring was coming. This gave rise to a number of stories. One of them is about a groundhog called Phil. This animal could forecast (预测) the weather. Phil stuck his head out above ground and looked around every February 2nd. If he saw his shadow (影子), it meant that there would be an extended (延长的) winter of six weeks. If the weather was cloudy and he didn’t see his shadow, it meant spring would be early.

Two baby pandas born in a French zoo have finally got names! They were named Yuan Dudu and Huan Lili. Olympic gold medal winner Zhang Jiaqi and French soccer star Kylian Mbappe were chosen to tell their new Chinese names to the public at a special event on Nov 18.
There were five different pairs of names on the zoo’s website for people to pick. 46 The names stand for friendship between France and China, as well as a wish for the babies’ good health.
Pandas usually have two names, a nickname (乳名) and an official name. The nickname is for baby pandas. 47 If there are twin baby pandas, the older one gets a nickname with the character “Da” and the younger gets a nickname with the character “Xiao”. They mean “older” and “younger” in Chinese. For example, the panda “Jingjing” gave birth to twins. The older one would be nicknamed “Jingda”, while the younger would be “Jingxiao”. 48 Some pandas get their nicknames because of their appearances, while others are named after their birthplaces.
After they get their official names, nicknames are no longer used. This is because the pandas go into a special database (数据库). 49 The pandas also get a special code to show who they are, just like our ID card numbers. All of this helps with scientific research.
50 For example, the Chinese government will name a panda before giving it away as a gift to other countries.
A.This way, people can tell them from each other easily.
B.More than 122,000 people chose the names from them.
C.If there is a third baby, it will get a nickname with “San” (“three”).
D.Zhang Jiaqi and Kylian Mbappe picked the two names from them.
E.Their names will carry information about their family relationships.
F.Choosing names online is not the only way to name the baby pandas.
