Paragraph 1: I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised.___________________
(二)学会分析情节 分析故事情节一般从故事六要素着手,即 who, when, where, what, why, how。

Pl:A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. Then we realized that the spray had only angered him even more, for he seemed much fiercer this time and violently pushed the fence like mad.My heart raced wildly, not knowing what to do.At this critical moment, Elli grabbed several pieces of garlic bread and threw them over the fence. It worked! The bear stopped the attack and ran to the bread. But it wasn't long before he ate up all the bread and came back again.
P2: At that very moment, the helicopter.arrived,"Thank goodness we are saved!"Elli cried out. Once the helicopter landed, we got onto it in no time, excited and relieved. When we were safe on the helicopter up in the air, I was amazed to spot that the bear had finally torn down the fence and ran towards the food we left behind.I quickly took out the camera and photographed the rare scene -we were robbed by a polar bear!
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night Did he get tired Have doubts Did he want to quit I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.

I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation.

Para.1 A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.
Para.2 I went to my teacher's office after the award presentation.
Para.1
Para.2
Para.1
To my surprise, I won the first place in the contest.
或What surprised me most was that I won the first place in the contest.
Informed of the good news, I was very happy.
Informed of the good news, a wave of delight taking hold of me, joy danced all the way to my heart.
My teacher felt proud of me.
No sooner had I put down the call than I called my teacher to share the good news, who felt extremely proud of me.
(句式:no sooner had +主+done...than...
I thanked him for all the help he had offered.
扩句:套用应用文感谢信的写法(without one's help, ...wouldn't have done...)
I thanked him for all the help he had offered, without which I wouldn't have achieved such a big success.
Finally came the award presentation day.
Finally came the award presentation day, when I gratefully delivered a speech with excitement.
Para.2
My teacher was waiting for me.
When I opened the door, I found my teacher was waiting for me, whose face was glowing like a diamond.
I expressed my gratitude again to him.
Looking into his eyes, I expressed my heartfelt gratitude again to him, with tears misting my eyes.
He delivered his congratulations to me and encouraged me.
He patted my back softly, delivered his congratulations to me again and encouraged me with pride, smile on his face lighting up the whole room.
From then on, I fell in love with writing.
From then on, I fell in love with writing, who is now a famous writer with hundreds of works.
It's my teacher's trust and encouragement that contributes to all my achievements today.
I hold the firm belief that it's my teacher's trust and encouragement that contributes to all my achievements today.
One possible version:
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was informed that I won the first prize in the writing contest and that there would be an award presentation in two days. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life on the road to writing.
I am a deaf man, from California, the USA, and I once studied at Gallaudet University in Washington, the world’s first school for the advanced education of the deaf.
It was Christmas time. The campus was nearly empty, so I was almost alone and felt quite lonely. It was my first Christmas away from my family - with no Christmas tree, no burning fireplace, no tasty dinner, no laughter and no gifts to open. Because of having no source of income, I just could not afford to fly home, and felt awfully sorry for myself at that special moment.
On a dark, rainy afternoon, feeling down, I forced myself to a nearby post office to send a package home. Normally, I wear a hearing aid from early in the morning till bedtime in the evening. That day I just did not want to hear anything, co I left my hearing aid in my dormitory room and was unable to hear anything completely.
The weather was extremely bad, making it hard for people to keep their spirits up. Inside the post office, each window had a line of at least a dozen people. I was standing in one of the lines with all the other customers, when the door swung open. In came a boy, perhaps 12 years old, who got well through. He was selling copies of The Washington Post for ten cents each. There was nothing else for me to look at, so I watched him silently.
He went up to each person and offered a newspaper for sale. Person after person, line after line, no one would like to buy. Most people just ignored him. Obviously, no one was willing to do him a kindness. Finally, he came up to me. I told him that I didn’t need newspapers because my college reading room was always supplied with newspapers. He left me and went on to other people. Twenty minutes later, no one bought any of his newspapers, and I started to feel some sort of pain for him, so I searched my pocket and found a quarter.
I gestured for the boy to come over.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At that moment, people around me began to buy the boy’s newspaper.

I gestured for the boy to come over. As he approached, I took out the quarter and pointed to the newspaper, trying to make him understand that I wanted to buy one. Since I couldn't hear, I couldn't talk to him directly. So, I took out a pen and a piece of paper from my pocket and wrote, "Keep the change." He looked at me with wide - open eyes, filled with surprise and gratitude. Then he gave me the newspaper with both hands, bowed slightly, and said something that I couldn't hear but could feel the sincerity from his expression. Some people around cast strange looks at me, probably wondering why I would buy a newspaper when I had said I didn't need one before.
At that moment, people around me began to buy the boy’s newspaper. Maybe they were touched by my act of kindness. One by one, they reached out their hands, taking out money to buy the newspapers. The boy was busy receiving money and handing out newspapers, with a big smile on his face all the time. After a while, most of his newspapers were sold out. He walked up to me again, said a lot of words, and although I couldn't hear a single word, I knew he was thanking everyone. Seeing this, I felt a warm current flowing through my heart. Suddenly, I no longer felt lonely. This small act of kindness had not only brightened the boy's day but also mine.
Passage 1
My grandfather was a kind and wonderful man who considered me to be his favorite grandchild. He always took some extra effort to teach me as much as he could about life on the ranch (牧场), the animals and the outdoors. He had a way of making everything seem like a success, but as I would later learn, sometimes he told little“white lies” to make sure I always felt proud of what I had achieved.
I was about six years old when my grandfather asked if I would like to go fishing with him. I jumped at the chance; I had seen other kids and adults fish before, but I was always considered too young to fish myself. When my grandfather offered to take me fishing I knew that I was no longer a baby and I was more than eager to throw my line in the water and take my place amongst the older kids and adults. I was beyond excited. I ran to my grandparents’ old pickup truck and jumped into the front seat. The old man drove us ever so slowly to the large pond about a mile from the house.
My grandfather led me to a shaded spot underneath a big tree whose branches hung over the water’s edge. He seemed to enjoy the excitement I was showing and took a great delight in explaining to me about how to bait (上饵) my hook, how much line to leave between the hook and the cork (软木), and the importance of what he called his“secret fisherman’s trick”. After listening to every word he said, I took the pole and dropped my line into the still water, just as he did. We settled back and waited. I began to imagine taking home a big fish and being envied by everyone.
Hours passed and no fish appeared. Seeing my sadness, my grandfather suggested we leave our poles and go into the truck for a rest. I left the baited lines in the water and my grandmother gave me a glass of water then put me down for a nap (小睡). I slipped into sleep feeling that my first fishing trip had been a failure.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150个左右;
Suddenly my grandfather shouted, “Oh, boy! Your pole is moving!”

Steger grew up in Bellingham, Washington, about an hour’s drive from where he was now, trapped in the Mount Baker Ski Area. The remote place is marked by ropes and signs to warn people that they’re leaving the safe zone. Steger and his three fellows had all the required equipment, a two-way radio and a backpack with a shovel when they started their second skiing in the morning. On that Friday run, Steger’s friends were in front of him when Steger, moving through the trees, ran into trouble.
The front of his board hit a small branch hidden under new snow. Steger fell into a tree well (树坑). Before he could call for help, he was upside down in deeper snow than he’d ever been in. All he could see was blackness. One of Steger’s arms was pinned next to his body. Luckily, his other arm had ended up next to his face, so he managed to push the snow away from his mouth, creating a small air pocket. To prevent snow from falling in and covering his mouth, he pulled the tip of his jacket over his face. And now all he could do was stay calm and wait to be rescued.
He figured two or so minutes had passed. Then the two-way radio on his shoulder crackled with messages from his friends “Where are you Let’s know if you’re in front of us!” He replied and mentioned about his situation. He knew that his friends were downhill from where he was stuck. His friends were surprised and convinced him that they were on their long difficult way back up the hill to rescue him. Meanwhile, it was up to Steger to get himself out, or he’d die.
Then he felt his snowboard, still attached to his feet, move. Francis Zuber, 28-year-old, had gone to Mount Baker Ski Area that Friday to ski. As he sped down the slope, Zuber caught a glimpse of something red. That’s when he saw that the upside-down snowboard in a tree well was moving.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
“Someone might be trapped under the snow in the tree well,” Zuber thought.

Passage 3
In 2015, Emma Carlson Berne had just had her third child. She loved her role as a mother, but she often felt consumed by it, like her life would never return to normal. One day, when her baby was about three months old, she decided that her whole family — her husband, her two young boys and her new baby boy — should get out of the house and go to a restaurant.
They tumbled out of the car, ready with a diaper (尿布) bag, books for the kids to read, a seat for the baby and bags of snacks. As soon as they stepped onto the curb, her baby was ready to nurse again, and Berne knew she had to get inside.
“I was already feeling pretty shaky,” she recalled. “So we all pile into the restaurant. We’re very messy; we’re very loud.”
Her baby thrashed (剧烈扭动) around as she tried to nurse him under a blanket, and she worried he was about to cry. Berne began to feel hopeless. “I was feeling a little teary-eyed because, although we were doing it, this was really hard.”
A short time later, her unsung hero appeared: an older woman, who reminded Berne of her own mum. This woman came up and stood there and looked at them. And Berne was sort of preparing that she was gonna say how cute the baby was. Instead, the woman took them all in.
She said admiringly, “What a beautiful family.”
Then she looked at Berne’s two young boys, ages 6 and 3, sitting quietly on Berne’s side of the table. And she said, “It’s not easy to sit at a table for a long time.” The woman saw her older children in a way few people seemed to, now that they were no longer in the infant (婴儿) stage. “Nobody ever noticed them anymore,” Berne recalled.

Passage 4
A Valentine’s Day joke is a funny but super sweet way to celebrate love without being quite so serious! Old Lady Hayes deserved it. She often screamed at us for “borrowing” some roses from her garden. Well, she had it coming.
At least, that’s the way we saw it as George finished tying the string to the red, heart-shaped box. We giggled(咯咯笑)as Ron added the final touch: two plastic red roses, glued to the lid. George practiced pulling the box by the string. I couldn’t wait to see it fly away when she tried to pick it up.
I was the first to notice my dad in the doorway. I froze. Within seconds, my anxiety was shared by all. Dad walked slowly to the empty candy box. He picked it up, and watched it swing back and forth. Then he looked into the eyes of the frightened boys.
“It doesn’t seem so long ago that I was playing Valentine’s Day jokes.” he said. “One year my cousins and I decided to pull one on our grandma even though we loved her. We just wanted to have some fun. We tiptoed to her doorstep and drew a gift there with red paint. Then we kicked the door and hid behind the bushes. When Grandma finally appeared, she looked down and reached for the fresh paint. Slowly, she figured out our joke. She smiled, absently wiping red paint on her clean and white apron(围裙).”Dad paused and for the first time I noticed that his eyes were wet. “Grandma died later that year. I never had another chance to give her a real Valentine.”
Later that night a red heart-shaped box was placed on Mrs. Hayes’ front doorstep. As we hid behind the bushes, the cool night air wrapped around us, adding a chill to our excitement. “Do you think she’ll scream ” I whispered. “Maybe she’ll think it’s a real gift this time,” George replied, trying to hold back his giggles.

A storeowner was tacking (用平头钉钉) a sign above his door that read “Puppies For Sale.” Signs like that have a way of attracting small children, and sure enough, there are many kids approaching, talking and laughing about those little friends, among whom is a little boy. Walking slowly with a little strange posture, he appeared under the storeowner’s sign. “How much are you going to sell the puppies for ” he asked, obviously with an uncertain voice.
The storeowner replied, “Anywhere from $ 30 to $ 50.”
The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. “I have only $ 2.37,” he said. “Can I please look at them ”
The storeowner smiled and whistled and out of the kennel came Lady, who ran down the aisle of his store followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur. One puppy was moving slowly considerably behind. Obviously, there was something with its back legs. Immediately the little boy singled out the slowly-moving, limping puppy and said, “What’s wrong with that little dog ”
The storeowner explained that the vet had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn’t have a hip socket It would always limp. It would always be lame. The little boy became excited and let out a cry, saying “That is the little puppy that I want to buy.”
Looking at the boy with a puzzled expression, it seemed that the storeowner couldn’t believe what he heard and said, “No, you don’t want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I’ll just give him to you.” All kids there also gave the boy a surprised look, whispering to each other, giving a glance at one of his legs.

Passage 6
My dad helped me build a tree house in our backyard. My sister was at camp for three whole weeks and I was on the best baseball team in town. It was all good until Jeremy Ross moved into the neighborhood. I did not like Jeremy Ross. He laughed at me when he struck me out in a baseball game. He had a party on his trampoline (蹦床) but I wasn’t even invited.
Jeremy Ross was the only person on my enemy list. I never even had an enemy list until he moved into the neighborhood. I hung the list up in my tree house, where Jeremy Ross was not allowed to go. My dad told me that when he was my age he had enemies too. But he knew a good way to get rid of them. I asked him to tell me how.
“I’ll show you how!” he said. He pulled a really old recipe book off the kitchen shelf. Inside, there was a worn-out scrap of paper with faded writing. “Enemy Pie,” he said, satisfied. I was wondering what exactly is in Enemy Pie. But Dad said the recipe was so secret. I begged him to tell me something or anything. “I’ll tell you this,” he said. “Enemy Pie is the fastest known way to get rid of enemies.” This got my mind working. What kinds of things — disgusting things — would I put into a pie for an enemy
When Dad was preparing for the pic, I brought Dad some weeds, earthworms and rocks, but he didn’t think he needed those. I went out to play alone. I shot baskets until the ball got stuck on the roof. And all the while, I listened to the sounds of my dad chopping and stirring and blending the ingredients of Enemy Pie. I thought the Enemy Pie must be the most awful thing in the world. To my surprise, I smelled something really good. I asked Dad what was wrong. Enemy Pie shouldn’t smell this good.

On New Year’s Eve, the air was filled with excitement and expectation. Every kid was overjoyed, and one such kid was little Johnny. Johnny was thrilled because he was going to the market with his father to buy various items that he liked. The market was bustling with activity, and all the businesses were decorated with colorful lights, creating a festive atmosphere.
As Johnny and his father walked through the market, they were surrounded by the sounds of vendors calling out their wares, the laughter of children, and the clatter of shopping carts. The air was filled with the scent of freshly cooked food and the bright lights of the decorations. Johnny’s eyes widened in wonder as he took in the sights and sounds of the bustling market.
While wandering through the market, Johnny’s attention was drawn to a shop with a large number of caged birds. The birds were constantly slamming their beaks against the cage in a desperate attempt to escape. Many of them were dripping with blood, and their feathers were ruffled (竖起) and dirty. Johnny felt a pang of sorrow and was deeply moved by the plight (困境) of the birds.
Unable to control his emotions, Johnny approached the shopkeeper. “Why have you captured these helpless birds ” he inquired, his voice trembling with concern. Johnny thought to himself that it was not right to limit someone’s freedom, especially for innocent creatures like these birds.
The shopkeeper looked at Johnny with a mixture of frustration and sadness. “I don’t like it,” he admitted, “but I don’t have any other options. I need the job and also require funds to feed my family.” Listening to the shopkeeper’s explanation, Johnny understood the complexity of the situation. He turned to his father and said, “Dad, can we buy these birds and set them free ” Meanwhile, he was searching for money in his pocket. “What about all those items you were planning to buy, Johnny What if the man loses his job ” Johnny’s father inquired.

Ever since the factory closed, he’d been unemployed, and with winter coming on, the cold had finally hit home.
It was starting to get dark and light snow was coming down. He’d better get a move on. Then he saw an old lady trapped on the side of the road. But even in the dim (昏暗的) light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her car and got out.
Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her He didn’t look safe and seemed jobless. He looked poor and hungry. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm By the way, my name is Bryan. ” The lady felt a little relieved after hearing what Bryan said. She got in her car and thought maybe he was helping for money.
Bryan found all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. He crawled (爬) under the car looking for a place to put the jack (千斤顶) , cutting his finger a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands were hurt. As he was doing the work, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. Passage 9
In the year when her parents determined to go their separate ways, Alice initiated the allocation of a considerable span of her time to the Polka Café, a venue that surfaced as the exclusive location where she could truly immerse herself in rumination, and her mother seemed to manifest no dissent regarding her spending the bulk of the summer there.
Antecedent to the commencement of the summer season, two momentous occurrences had materialized. The primary occurrence, without doubt, was the egress of her father from their domestic abode, and the secondary one was the disintegration of her amicable bond with Sarah. Alice was incapable of precisely identifying how their relationship had degenerated to such a deplorable state. They had been involved in a vehement quarrel at school shortly subsequent to her parents’ public announcement of their irrevocable decision to part.
On every occasion when her friends questioned the non - appearance of her father, who no longer served as her escort to school each morning, Alice would unfailingly proffer the untruth, “My father is preoccupied with business engagements elsewhere.” She discontinued extending invitations to them for recreational gatherings at her residence and fabricated a plethora of pretexts to evade social interaction with any other individuals. “I am occupied with alternative arrangements,” she would communicate to Sarah.
On a particular day, as they were proceeding homeward from school, Sarah accosted Alice in a somewhat irritated intonation, “Alice, what is the underlying issue Why are you refraining from engaging in dialogue with me ” Alice simulated auditory impairment and persisted in her forward movement, entertaining no inclination to deliberate on the matter with Sarah at that juncture, or with anyone else for that matter.
“I am speaking with utter earnestness, Alice. My mother has divulged the pertinent details to me,” Sarah further stated. “I am cognizant of the situation unfolding with your parents.” This disclosure caused Alice to come to an abrupt standstill. In reality, their habitation was in a compact community where confidential matters were notoriously short – lived, yet Alice had cherished a feeble aspiration that the news would remain under wraps for a sufficient duration to enable her to ascertain the appropriate moment to broach the subject herself. She was overcome with feelings of mortification and emotional injury, yearning to reveal the information to Sarah in accordance with her own volition.
Consumed by a surge of fury, Alice launched a verbal assault. “How can you have the audacity to assert that you possess any knowledge!” she vehemently exclaimed. “You are an exceedingly despicable friend. I harbor no desire to engage in any form of verbal exchange with you ever again!”

Tom always wanted to follow in his elder sister Emily’s footsteps, no matter what she did. For instance, when Emily practiced playing the piano, he would sit beside her and randomly press the keys, even though he was in fact a total stranger to music. Each time, Emily would feel a bit annoyed, wondering if he could find something else to do.
This time, it was Tom’s first week at swimming lessons, while Emily had been swimming for two years. Emily stood by the poolside, waiting for her tum to demonstrate freestyle swimming. She frowned as she watched Tom across the pool. Couldn’t he find his own activity “Emily, it’s your turn!” Coach Susan called out. Emily dove into the water and swam a graceful lap, earning applause from the coach and other kids.
Emily noticed that Tom had wandered away from the beginners’ group to watch her swim. “Tom!” his instructor, Coach Mark, called from across the pool. Tom seemed not to hear. Only after being called three times did he slowly return to his group. It was Tom’s turn to try floating. He looked extremely nervous. When he attempted to float, he accidentally took in some water, causing surprise and laughter among the other children.
Feeling embarrassed, Tom ran towards the changing room. He was gone from the pool area, just as Emily had wished. But this time, it didn’t feel right. After informing Coach Susan where she was going, Emily hurried to the changing room. She found Tom crying. Seeing Eaily, Tom cried even harder. “I don’t want to take swimming lessons anymore,” he sniffled.
This was Emily’s chance. If she said nothing. Tom might quit swimming forever. “Tom, everyone finds things difficult at first,” Emily said gently. “When I started swimming, I choked on water too. But you shouldn’t give up because of one mistake. We can practice together, and I’ll help you get better.”
Hearing Emily’s words, Tom eventually stopped crying and nodded. The siblings held hands and returned to the poolside, ready to face new challenges together.

注意:
1.续写词数应为 150个左右;
Suddenly my grandfather shouted, “Oh, boy! Your pole is moving!”

Years later, my grandmother revealed the truth about that day.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Suddenly my grandfather shouted, “Oh, boy! Your pole is moving!” I awoke, my heart racing with excitement. “Quick, grab your pole!” he urged, and I jumped to my feet, still half-asleep but filled with hopes. As I took hold of the fishing rod, my grandfather guided me, showing me how to make it slowly. “Keep your line tight!” he instructed, his voice steady and encouraging. I finally saw a flash of silver in the water. “That’s it! You’re doing great!” my grandfather cheered. With one final pull, I managed to bring the fish to the shore.
Years later, my grandmother revealed the truth about that day. She had seen my grandfather secretly place a fish on the hook of my fishing pole, ensuring that my first fishing experience would be a success. I was so amazed by my grandmother’s words. I knew that my grandfather loved me, but I never knew the extremes he went to in order to make my first fishing experience a good one. My greatest hope is that one day people will remember me like I remember my grandpa.

“Someone might be trapped under the snow in the tree well,” Zuber thought. Without hesitation, he quickly skied towards the moving snowboard. When he got closer, he shouted, “Is anyone there ” Steger heard his voice and replied loudly. Zuber realized the situation was urgent. He took out the shovel from his backpack and started to dig the snow around the tree well. The snow was hard, but he didn’t give up. After several minutes of hard work, he finally saw Steger’s face. With great effort, he pulled Steger out of the snow.
Once they were out, Steger wrapped Zuber in a bear hug. “Thank you so much! You saved my life,” Steger said, his voice full of emotion. Just then, Steger’s friends arrived. They were shocked to see Steger safe and sound. They all expressed their gratitude to Zuber, saying that his help was a lifesaver. Zuber smiled and said, “I’m just glad I could help. It’s what anyone would do in that situation.” Then, they all sat down for a while, sharing their experiences and feelings. After that, they skied down the mountain together, with a new friendship formed among them.

Then the woman turned to Berne. And she said, “Look at you, Mum. You’re doing such a good job. It must be very challenging to raise the three children. You are so great.” Berne felt very grateful to her warm words, tears in her eyes. She brightened up at her words of encouragement. The woman brought out a box of chocolates from her bag and gave them to the children, who were excited at the sweets. Berne was too moved to say anything to express her gratitude. Then the woman gently patted on Berne’s shoulder, gave them one last smile, and left on the street.
Nearly 10 years later, Berne is still moved by the woman’s thoughtfulness. And she has often recalled it with friends and family. If she could speak to the woman now, this is what she would say, “Thank you for seeing all of us. And thank you for seeing me. Me, someone who wasn’t often seen during these early days, and someone who was sometimes feeling pretty invisible. And I have never forgotten it.” Now her children have grown up, and her life has become better than before. When Berne meets other women struggling to get out with kids, she often says some warm words to them, just like what the older woman talked to her.

Just then, we heard the door click open. Out came Mrs. Hayes with a lamp in her hand. When her eye fell on the red, heart-shaped box, she leaned closer with a mixture of confusion and excitement. Driven by curiosity, she reached out her hand, picked it up and opened it with trembling hands. On seeing the candy, she could hardly contain her joy. A broad smile spread over her face. Seeing the surprise and happiness in her eyes, we couldn’t help giggling, covering our mouths with hands.
Hearing the giggles, Mrs Hayes looked up at the bushes. We had nowhere to hide, so we jumped out of the bushes, yelling “Happy Valentine’s Day!”. She stood rooted to the spot, speechless with surprise. Recovering from the shock, she walked to us and hugged us tightly, saying “Thank you all!” with tears of happiness welling up in her eyes. At the same time, a great wave of warmth swept over us. The box of candy would be treasured as it was a reminder of an amazing Valentine’s Day.

Strangely, the little boy got quite upset and firmly insisted on buying it. He looked straight into the storeowner’s eyes, pointing his finger, and said, “I don’t want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I will pay full price. In fact, I’ll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents a month until I have paid for him.” Then, firmly and proudly, he handed the money to the storeowner.
The storeowner hesitated, trying to explain. “You really don’t want to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies.” To this, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted left leg supported by a big metal brace. He looked up at the storeowner and softly replied, “Well, I don’t run so well myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands!” Happily, the little boy went away with the little puppy, eyes filled with softness and love.

One possible version:
But Dad told me: “In order for it to work, you need to spend a day with your enemy. Even worse, you have to be nice to him.” It sounded incredible and awkward but thinking that I could get rid of this enemy forever, I resolved to meet him. After greeting and chatting, we were able to have fun together. He told me how to play on his trampoline and when we climbed up on the roof to get the stuck ball, Jeremy noticed my tree house. He asked whether he could go into the house. Considering I should be nice to him, I said okay to him. But I climbed up ahead of him and tore the enemy list off the wall. Time passed fleetly in our laughter.
We played games delightedly until my Dad called us for dinner. As was predicted, Dad brought out the pie. But at this point, I didn’t think Jeremy was my enemy anymore. He was eager to eat the delicious pie. I panicked and shouted: “Jimmy, don’t eat it! I think it’s poisonous or something!” He looked at me curiously. “If it’s so bad,” Jeremy asked, “then why has your Dad already eaten half of it ” I turned to my Dad and he was eating Enemy Pie! Although I was still confused about the pie, what seemed obvious was that from that day on, I had lost my enemy forever and had a new close friend!

She expressed her gratitude for his coming to her aid. The old lady felt so warm in her inner heart as she watched Bryan, a stranger, selflessly change her flat tire in the cold. “You’ve been a blessing today, Bryan, ” she said. Bryan just smiled, saying it was nothing. She asked him how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She had already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. But he simply declined and then the car could start again.
Before she drove off, the old lady handed him a small piece of paper with her phone number and address. It read, “If you’re ever in St. Louis, come to me. Maybe I can help you. ” Bryan smiled, feeling a warmth that transcended the cold evening. As he watched her car disappear into the distance, he realized that sometimes, the simple act of helping others can light up not just their day, but also one’s own heart. He headed home, determined to keep looking for work, knowing that kindness always finds a way.

My mother has divulged the pertinent details to me,” Sarah further stat
