In a rough inner-city area in the eastern U. S., a small place was a lawless jungle. Broken glass, rubbish, and mindless drawings turned the space into a “no-go” zone for most of the residents. But one day, a small group of people living nearby decided that was enough. Seeking a resolution, they planned a project to turn the area into a community space, a space of healing, hope, and growth, not destruction and despair.
Moving in, the group realized that those who were using the space inappropriately early on must have a say. Then the group arranged a meeting, but no one came. Thinking outside the box, they started with one simple idea, building a white wall where anyone could leave their thoughts about the future of the site.
Not all of the suggestions were useful. But slowly, the group itself and others using the site began to see some progress. Those who would not usually have a voice in such discussions began to weigh in. They wrote things like “a place to meet up”, “a creative space” and so on. Someone else said, “Clean up first.”
The group began to clear the site, reusing materials that could be saved and removing the rest. One day, a couple of young men showed up and just started helping. Some other people passing by also took an interest and joined in. There were concerns that this would not last long, but over the weeks it remained. And, remarkably, someone even added a small side table. Colorful artwork was created.
The group added four small raised beds, planting crops in one of them. Gradually, as the greenery flourished, so did the bonds between the group and nearby residents. People who had never gardened before slowly got involved. The once-neglected corner blossomed into a bustling hub, a testament to the transformative power of collective hope and action.
4.What’s the aim of the project

Human beings’ curiosity about outer space hasn’t declined in the past decade, and with Jeff Bezos’ historic commercial flight to the edge of space this past summer, dreamers are that much closer to experiencing the Galaxy for themselves.
It’s reported that one company is aiming to make space a reality for people, and is pioneering a new age of space tourism. In 2019, the California-based company Gateway Foundation first explored the idea. Its dream was to make visiting space, in excellent accommodation, a future vacation choice. The project, now called Voyager Station, is run by Orbital Assembly Corporation, a construction company led by head of the Gateway Foundation and former pilot, John Blincow.
Space tourism draws closer as Orbital Assembly Corporation has announced plans to build the world’s first space hotel named “Voyager Station”, which is expected to open in 2027. With a date in close sight, the hotel’s architects and engineers are hard at work, aiming to design an out-of-this-world experience. They plan to decorate the suites with elegant bars and restaurants with a touch of space, as well as Earth-viewing lounges and unique space food treats. The team is also taking advantage of the reduced gravity that will be felt in the station to plan to let their guests weightlessly carry heavy objects, jump higher or run faster in ways people can’t normally do on Earth.
Gravity will remain in the rooms and bars though because Voyager Station’s scientific design makes it possible by creating artificial gravity within the hotel. The hotel is designed as a wheel that will steadily move and create simulated gravitational force, much like when a glass of water is spun around, the water doesn’t pour out. The hotel’s guests won’t feel much different than being on a huge ship steadily moving.
8.What do we know about the Gateway Foundation
A.It aimed to build a space hotel.
B.It made space a reality for people.
C.It promoted space tourism greatly.
D.It planned a historic commercial flight.
9.What will the Voyager Station team use the reduced gravity to do
A.Provide unique space food.
B.Let guests do space sports.
C.Offer recreational activities.
D.Decorate suites more easily.
10.Why does gravity exist in the rooms and bars
A.To prevent liquid from pouring.
B.To make guests feel comfortable.
C.To avoid guests’ travel sickness.
D.To keep things in normal positions.
11.What’s the text mainly about
A.Time for Space Travel.
B.Space tourism gaining popularity.
C.First-ever commercial flight to space.
D.First space hotel set to open in 2027.
An artificial intelligence (AI) trained on personal data covering the entire population of Denmark can predict people’s chances of dying more accurately than any existing model, even those used in the insurance industry. The researchers behind the technology say it could also have a positive impact on early prediction of social and health problems.
Sune Lehmann Jorgensen at the Technical University of Denmark and his colleagues used the data covering various aspects of 6 million people from 2008 to 2020 from Denmark. They changed the data into words that could be used to train a large language model, the same technology that powers other AI apps. These models work by looking at a series of words and determining which word is statistically most likely to come next, based on vast amounts of examples. In a similar way, the researchers’ Life2vec model can look at a series of life events that form a person’s history and determine what is most likely to happen next.
In experiments, Life2vec was trained on all but the last four years of the data, which was held back for testing. The researchers took data on a group of people aged from 35 to 65, half of whom died between 2016 and 2020, and asked Life2vec to predict who lived and who died. It was 11 percent more accurate than any existing AI model used to price life insurance policies in the finance industry.
Jorgensen believes that the model has consumed enough data that it is likely to be able to shed light on a wide range of health and social topics. This means it could be used to predict health issues and catch them early, or by governments to reduce inequality. But he stresses that it could also be used by companies in a harmful way. “Clearly, our model should not be used by an insurance company, because the whole idea of insurance is that, by sharing the lack of knowledge of somebody who is going to be the unlucky person struck by some incidents or deaths, we can kind of share this burden,” says Jorgensen.
12.What makes Life2vec more powerful in forecasting death risks
A.It is trained on vast amounts of data.
B.It goes through a large number of tests.
C.It uses the same technology as other AI apps do.
D.It is intended for the government to make policies.
13.Which of the following statements about Life2vec is true
A.All of the data was held back for testing.
B.Data adjustments were made to train a language model.
C.More data is needed to shed light on health and social topics.
D.It is the first AI trained to predict people’s likelihood of death.
14.Why should Life2vec be kept out of the hands of businesses
A.To guard public interests. B.To remove social inequality.
C.To keep its technology a secret. D.To maintain the government’s authority.
15.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A.Life2vec: Superior To Other AI Apps
B.New AI Can Predict Risk Of Early Death
C.Advanced Technology Addresses Social Problems
D.Insurance Companies: Keep Away From Life2vec
Nearly every cell in the human body operates on a circadian clock (昼夜节律), an internally driven 24-hour rhythm. Long-distance travel upsets those routines. 16 . While some degree of jet lag may be impossible to avoid, three sleep experts gave several suggestions for how to minimize the effects.
Shift your bedtime
Travelers facing a time change can prepare their bodies before takeoff by adjusting their sleep schedules, said Dr. Sairam Parthasarathy, director of the Center for Sleep. “Starting about three days before traveling east, move up your bedtime by 30 minutes each night,” he explained. 17 . “Go to bed progressively later over the days before your flight, and once you land, try to get some light exposure to delay sleep.”
18
What you do when you land may matter more than prep before your flight. Dr. Alon Avidan, director of the University of California Los Angeles Sleep Disorders Center, says that light exposure is the key regulator of circadian rhythms. He advises travelers who land in the morning to wear sunglasses to avoid seeing direct sunlight until early afternoon. As your trip progresses, it becomes more OK to see morning light.
Avoid naps
A midday nap is a serious no-go for travelers hoping to remove symptoms of jet lag. Avidan explains that an afternoon snooze “only prolongs the mismatch between your internal time and the external time. If you absolutely need some shut-eye to get through the day, take a strategic power nap of no longer than 20 minutes.” 19 .
Get moving
Emily Schmitt says that travelers should resist the call of the hotel bed and a room-service breakfast on their first morning in a new time zone. 20 . “It could simply be wandering down to your local coffee shop.” Schmitt said. Exercise, even low-key movement, supports healthy digestion and the battle against jet lag by keeping you alert until it’s time for sleep.
A.Make the most of your first day
B.Minimize your sunlight exposure
C.Instead, have it after a 20-min workout
D.The same applies to consuming caffeine
E.Thus the body get confused, making us jet-lagged
F.Sleeping longer risks sacrificing your night’s sleep
G.Those traveling west should reverse the instructions

Whether we rode our bikes, or played ball, or sat and played cards, we talked and dreamed about those soft, creamy sandwiches.
My dad worked nights, coming home to join us for breakfast, and then sleeping till late afternoon. When he came home one morning, I heard the jingle (叮当声) of change in his pants and something ugly slowly came into my mind. All day long I kept coming into the house and listening at his door. When I heard his seeping sounds, I Cracked the door And there hanging at the foot of the bed were those pants. I sipped in and took a handful of change. It was enough for my friends and me to eat like greedy pigs. And I became a hero to my band of friends.
That went on every day for about two weeks. I had gotten good at slipping in and sipping out, and then ran to my friends and we headed to the store.
One day there was no change in dad’s pocket so I felt hesitated a moment, then took out two whole dollars. I had been okay. with taking the change, but those dollars made my face hot. 20.本段小标题是“Get moving(动起来)”,说明本段是关于锻炼的,空后“Exercise, even low-key movement, supports healthy digestion and the battle against jet lag by keeping you alert until it’s time for sleep.(运动,即使是低强度的活动,也有助于健康消化,并通过让你保持警觉直到该睡觉的时间来帮助你对抗时差反应)”说明了运动的好处,空格处应该也和运动锻炼有关,C选项“Instead, have it after a 20-min workout(相反,锻炼20分钟后再吃)”说明了要锻炼20分钟后再吃饭,和锻炼有关,因此符合语境,故选C。

故填with。
故填an。
40.考查时态和主谓一致。句意:在这部作品中,最难的部分是中央的小步舞曲,然而在这里它被演奏得流畅而富有舞蹈性,与精致的精确度温柔地融合在一起。此处陈述一般事实,时态用一般现在时,主语One of the trickiest movements为第三人称单数形式,be动词用is。故填is。

Dear Andrew,
I’m writing to share with you a themed activity called Folk Culture Campus Tour in our school last Friday. You can’t imagine how meaningful and impressive it was.
We invited three famous folk artists to this activity. One artist performed sugar painting, and we were amazed at the vivid shapes of animals made of sugar. Another artist demonstrated paper cutting. And the third taught us how to produce clay figures. We were all impressed by their excellent manual skills.
The activity turned out to be a huge success. Not only did we learn about our traditional culture, but also it enriched our school life.
Yours,
Li Hua

47.【答案】
Early that afternoon, I hid myself in our basement, crying. I've never done such a thing before. I felt guilty and frightened. I didn't know how my father would punish me when he knew it. Just then the basement door opened and I heard someone come in. I didn't look up, but I knew it was my father. He came up to me and I could hear my heart beating. but I felt a hand gently touching my head. I looked up and tears came down. I said vaguely, "Dad, I..., I was wrong. I secretly took money from your pocket every day to invite my friends to eat sandwiches, and even today I took two dollars. "After that, I lowered my head again and waited for my father's furious reaction.
In a moment I will never forget, he said, “Son, I’ve known since the first day you took the money.” I was shocked to hear my father say so. Suddenly I didn't know what to say. Dad continued,“ But, son, I'm waiting for when you can realize your mistakes. I put change in my pocket every day, and even changed into two dollars today. You know, mistakes are like these money, more and more, bigger and bigger. Fortunately, you found the mistake that made you fell uncomfortable and have the courage to admit it. I think you've done a good job, son. Since then, my father's words have always sounded in my ears from time to time, guiding the way of my life.
