1. These things were real, and it was within their reality that Cunningham saw both beauty and potential.
结构:It is/was+ 被强调部分+that+其他部分。
I met my teacher in the park yesterday.
→ It was I that/who met my teacher in the park yesterday.(强调主语)
→ It was my teacher that/who I met in the park yesterday.(强调宾语)
→ It was in the park that I met my teacher yesterday.(强调地点状语)
→ It was yesterday that I met my teacher in the park.(强调时间状语)
He valued his integrity and would not be bought by anyone, no matter how many free clothes or flights to faraway destinations he was offered.
No matter how (However) busy you are, you should set aside some time to build up your strength every day.

No matter where (Wherever) he is, he makes it a rule to go for a walk before breakfast.

Don’t hesitate to turn to me for help no matter when (whenever) you need it.

Growing up, I realized I wasn’t as talkative as others within large groups of people. Parties were a mixed experience for me — I really wanted to be part of them, but usually spent the night waiting for it to end. I saw others getting everyone’s attention. I felt less confident.
They say confidence comes with time. But eight years into my HR (human resources) career (职业), I still found myself staying out of the limelight (公众注意的中心).
And then a colleague asked me if I was an introvert “No... ” I replied.
I thought introverts were strange, and they didn’t even like people. That was certainly not me. I’d always liked people; I found them fascinating. When I was with my closest friends, I was quite talkative.
Then he explained to me that introverts don’t know what to do when they’re around other people and need alone time to recharge.
Extroverts are the opposite.
And that was it. Hearing the two simple statements, I felt like over three decades of shame had been lifted off my shoulders.
I learned to accept my introverted nature and focused on what I enjoyed. As I began to connect with people one-on-one, I found it very meaningful. This encouraged me to explore how I could use my introversion to help others.
Finally, I started an online business called Career Off Script, where I focus on helping young professionals who are feeling lost and unhappy. I work with them one-on-one to discover their unique superpowers, strengths. So they, too, can appreciate their uniqueness and find their own success.

七选五
The solution to any despair might be hope, experts say. It’s believing in a brighter future and acting towards it. ① ______ Here are strategies that can help cultivate hope. As Hellman, an assistant professor of psychology at Suffolk University in Boston, points out, “Hope begets hope, and it has such a significant protective factor.”
②______ Make it a point to always be working toward at least one goal that’s meaningful, Hellman advises. In other words, it shouldn’t be something you have to do but something you want to do. “Goals can be anything that’s important to us,” he says.
Brainstorm solutions. If you’ve set a goal that’s meaningful to you, but you can’t figure out a way to achieve it, you’ll probably feel pretty hopeless. People who are high in hope, meanwhile, tend to generate lots of ways. ③ ______ If you’re struggling to make a plan, Hellman suggests sitting down with a pen and paper and giving yourself an hour to brainstorm solutions.
Seek out success stories. It’s said that people cultivate hope by seeking support from their parents and specific teachers. But they also got a lot out of learning about other people who have done well for themselves. Hellman says, “ ④ ______”
Tap into your imagination. Hellman thinks of imagination as “the instrument of hope”. Let’s say you set a goal for the week. Spend a few minutes reflecting on or talking about what would happen if you achieved it. “How does it impact you, or how would it benefit others ” he says. “ ⑤ ______ And when you can see yourself in the future, that is the very essence of hope.”
A.Do something meaningful.
B.It can be taught and nurtured.
C.Think in a goal-oriented way.
D.With these good examples, people are bound to be successful.
E.So, if one doesn’t work out, they have an alternative at the ready.

答案:①-⑤FAGEC
解析:①根据上文“Specialists dedicate themselves to one area of expertise. They spend years mastering their craft, ensuring they excel in one thing.(专家致力于一个专业领域。他们花数年时间掌握自己的手艺,确保自己在一件事上出类拔萃)”以及后文“For example, a doctor who specializes in neurology (神经学) is likely to provide better treatment for brain-related issues than a general medical doctor. In addition, specialists often enjoy a reputation for reliability in their professional area.(例如,一名专攻神经病学的医生可能会比普通医生更好地治疗与大脑有关的问题。
②根据后文“Industries evolve, and what is in demand today may not be relevant tomorrow. This can make it difficult for them to stay competitive. Specialists sometimes become over-reliant on their role, leaving them at risk if the field changes or declines.(行业在演进,今天的需求可能明天就无关紧要了。
③根据上文“Generalists, on the other hand, have a broad understanding of diverse subjects. This knowledge enables them to connect ideas across disciplines and adapt to new challenges more easily.(另一方面,通才对不同的学科有广泛的了解。
④根据上文“Yet, generalists might face challenges in a world that often rewards deep expertise. They may struggle to compete with specialists in highly technical fields. Generalists often lack the same level of depth as specialists.(然而,在经常奖励精通的世界里,通才可能面临挑战。
⑤根据上文“So, which approach is better It depends on the context and individual goals.(那么,哪种方法更好 这取决于背景和个人目标)”以及后文“In an interconnected world, the best path might be a balance-developing expertise in a core area while remaining open to learning from other fields.(在一个相互联系的世界里,最好的前进道路可能是平衡——在核心专业知识领域发展深度,同时保持开放,学习其他领域)”可知,上文提到了要根据背景和个人目标来选择方法,后文则说最好的前进道路可能是平衡,可见通才和专家都有自己的优势。
