There is a new study on teenagers who are between 13 and 19 years old. The study shows that today's teenagers are growing up more slowly than those before.
Scientists from San Diego State University have worked on a study on the behaviors of 8 million teenagers in seven different countries over the past 40 years. The results tell us that compared to the teenagers in the past, today's teenagers are less responsible. And it takes them more time to do the same things than their parents did. They are also less likely to have a part-time job. What's more, when they get older, they begin to know that they should help their parents do housework, while their grandparents and parents helped do housework at a very early age. “This is a ‘slow life way ’, ” said Professor Jean Twenge.
“The development of today's teenagers has slowed down. 18-year-olds are more like 15-year-olds in the past, ” added Professor Twenge. “Teenagers today are taking much fewer risks than those in the past did. ” Scientists have also found that more teenagers spend longer time living with their parents instead of renting(租) their own rooms or apartments.
One of the reasons for these behaviors is that today's teenagers would like to spend much time online. They keep on connecting(连接) with social media, watching videos or playing games on the Internet but not living in the real world. Another one is that parents do much for their children and protect them too much. In fact, parents had better let their children do everything by themselves. They should try their best to make their children become independent as soon as possible.

When Simon's mother came to see me, I was so worried. I was a new teacher, and I gave an honest description(描述) of the students' work. In Simon's case, the grades were really low. He couldn't read his own handwriting. But he was a bright student. He discussed many adult subjects clearly, though his work couldn't show his abilities.
So when Simon's mother entered the room, my palms(手心) were sweating(流汗). I was completely unprepared for her kisses on both my cheeks. “I came to thank you, ” she said, surprising me beyond speech. Because of me, Simon had become a different person. He talked of how he loved me, he had begun to make friends, and for the first time in his twelve years, he had recently spent an afternoon at a friend's house. She wanted to tell me how thankful she was for the self-respect I had developed in her son. She kissed me again and left.
I sat, shocked, for about half an hour, wondering what had just happened. How did I make such a life-changing difference to that boy without even knowing it
What I finally came to remember was one day, several months before, when some students were giving reports in front of the class , Jeanne spoke quietly, and to encourage her to raise her voice, I had said, “Speak up. Simon is the expert on this. He is the only one you have to convince and he can't hear you at the back of the”room.
That was it. From that day on, Simon had sat up straighter, paid more attention, smiled more, and became happier. And it was all because he happened to be the last kid in the last row. The boy who most needed praise was the one who took the last seat that day.
It taught me the most valuable lesson over the years of my teaching career. A simple act can indeed make a difference.

A.Make someone guess. B.Make someone express.
C.Make someone believe. D.Make someone happy.
(A )29.What the teacher said in Paragraph 4 is to .

“I came to thank you,” she said, surprising me beyond speech.
How did I make such a life-changing difference to that boy without even knowing it
What I finally came to remember was one day, several months before, when some students were giving reports in front of the class, Jeanne spoke quietly, and to encourage her to raise her voice, I had said, “Speak up. Simon is the expert on this. He is the only one you have to ________and he can't hear you at the back of the room.”
