第四部分 写作
The next day, Emily nervously stared at the list on the door of the choral room. This time, there was no rejection. Her name was displayed at the very top of the list. She, Emily White, had been selected as the leading singer! She was going to perform a solo in the upcoming show. Emily could scarcely believe what she was seeing. There had to be some error. However, Mr. Butler, looking at her with resolute eyes, said, “Emily, I chose you because you’re the perfect fit for this role— your voice is truly extraordinary. Have faith in yourself.” Deeply inspired by these words, Emily dedicated herself to extremely hard practice.
Finally, the day of performance came. Standing in front of the line, Emily felt her throat tight and her palms sweating. As the curtain slowly rose, the eyes of the whole audience fell upon Emily. “Emily White!” someone murmured in a hushed tone. Then, as the first note of the music rang out, Emily poured her heart and soul into her singing. Her voice resembled that of a nightingale, filling the auditorium with
its beautiful melody. Thunderous applause erupted! Emily was overwhelmed with happiness and a sense of ease. She was truly glowing on the stage. Emily White, with so many birth problems in her body, was nothing short of an angel!

Text 10
Did you know that tea, one of the most popular drinks in the world, was invented by accident It is said that a Chinese ruler called Shen Nong was the first to discover tea as a drink about 5, 000 years ago. One day Shen Nong was boiling drinking water over an open fire. Some leaves from a tea plant fell into the water and remained there for some time. It produced a nice smell so he tasted the brown water. It was quite delicious, and so, one of the world’s favorite drinks was invented.
A few thousand years later in the Tang Dynasty, Lu Yu, “the saint of tea”, mentioned Shen Nong in his book Cha Jing. The book describes how tea plants were grown and used to make tea. It also discusses where the finest tea leaves were produced and what kinds of water were used.
Tea has many health benefits. The great doctor Sun Simiao, who is also from the Tang Dynasty, mentioned in one of his works that drinking tea regularly made people energetic.
It is believed that tea was brought to Korea and Japan during the 6th and 7th centuries. In England, tea didn’t appear until around 1660, but in less than 100 years, it had become the national drink. Even though many people now know about tea culture, the Chinese are without doubt the ones who best understand the nature of tea.2025 年高一 3 月份月考英语试题

A 13-year-old American boy has become the first person ever to beat the popular video game Tetris (俄罗斯方块). The young gamer, Willis Gibson, completed 157 levels before the game technically gave in. Gamers call this kind of ending a “kill screen”. The Tetris program had no more plays to make and so it crashed, freezing the video game.
Gibson lives in Oklahoma and goes by the gaming name “Blue Scuti”. He repeatedly shouted “Oh my God” as he beat the game. “I can’t feel my fingers,” Gibson said.
Gaming experts had long considered Tetris unbeatable. It came out in 1984 and quickly became a worldwide favorite. Its creator, Alexey Pajitnov, was a computer engineer at the Russian Academy of Sciences. During the game, players move and join together seven different shapes of falling blocks. The goal is for players to fit the blocks together to form solid lines. The blocks fall faster as players progress through higher levels.
Gibson reached level 157 and dropped a final piece into place. This caused a single line of blocks to disappear and the game to enter a permanent (永久的) freeze. “This is staggering,” Vince Clemente, CEO of Classic Tetris World Championship, said. “Developers didn’t think anyone would ever make it that far and now the game has been beaten by a human being.”
Other fans of the game were quick to share Gibson’s excitement. Tetris chief executive Maya Rogers joined in the celebration. She said that it was fitting Gibson had beaten the game just ahead of 2024, when Tetris was entering its 40th anniversary. “Congratulations to ‘Blue Scuti’,” Rogers said. She added that the event broke any known limits of the game.
What do we know about Gibson
He got injured while playing Tetris. B. He thought it was not easy to beat Tetris.
C. He owed his great success to good luck. D. He planned to challenge gaming experts.
What had gaming experts thought of Tetris before Gibson beat it
It was designed for teenagers. B. It sometimes showed a “kill screen”.
C. It couldn’t be beaten by humans. D. It was the first video game in the world.
What does the underlined word “staggering” in paragraph 4 probably mean
Unbelievable. B. Unreasonable.
C. Impossible. D. Unacceptable.
What is the best title for this text
Tetris, a Popular Video Game. B. Tetris Needs Further Programming.
C. Gibson, a Talented Game Player. D. A US Teen Becomes the First Human to Beat Tetris.

Tens of millions of bees are likely being killed each day by vehicles in the western United States, a new study finds. The paper published in Sustainable Environment is the first to show how cars may be causing the loss of bees. Bees are important because they help pollinate (传粉) wild plants and a third of the world’s crops.
Scientists have studied the “insect disaster” by counting dead insects along roadsides. Most studies have
focused on forests and larger insects. But bee diversity (多样性) is greatest in dry, open areas, and most bees are tiny — just 2 to 25 millimeters long.
A research team from Utah State University studied bee deaths by driving on highways, paved roads, and unpaved roads during the day when bees are active. They made 29 trips around Utah in spring and summer, traveling more than 9,334 kilometers, and identified bees that were hit by cars. Every trip resulted in at least one bee death, and they found 14 different species.
The researchers guessed that one car driving between Salt Lake City and Moab might kill 50 to 175 bees. Based on traffic data, that means several million bees are killed when 94,000 cars travel that route each day. Millions of cars run in Utah daily, and similar trips happen in nearby states, so the total number of bees killed each day in the region is likely in the tens of millions.
Although the numbers are based on simple assumptions, they are still important. There are ways to reduce these deaths. Research has shown that bees usually avoid crossing roads unless there are plants in the middle. So, creating healthy habitat along both sides of a road, but not in the middle, could help.
What is paragraph 2 mainly about
Limitations on such studies. B. The influence of climate on bees.
C. Living areas of various bees. D. Scientists’ efforts to study diversity.
How does the author mainly develop paragraph 3 and paragraph 4
By presenting examples. B. By listing related numbers.
C. By making a comparison. D. By providing cause and effect.
Which is one way to prevent bees from being killed
Raising drivers’ awareness. B. Placing flowers in the middle.
C. Growing plants on roadsides. D. Leaving more space available.
What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
To explain the bee’s diversity. B. To remind readers to drive less.
C. To introduce the danger to bees. D. To ask people to grow more flowers.
D
There’re plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables available in local markets. But while those red juicy strawberries look fresh, consumers (消费者) have no way of knowing how long the fruit can be stored at home. The same goes for distribution centers (分销中心) and supermarkets.
Now, the food technology startup OneThird, located in the Netherlands, is looking to change that with an infrared ( 红外线) scanner that can exactly predict how long fresh fruits and vegetables will last. The startup is named OneThird because one-third of food is wasted due to spoilage (变质) every year.
The startup’s founders were inspired by a UK company that uses this type of technology in the medical field and decided to see if it was applicable for food. “I looked at the challenges in the food-supply chain and found out that 40 percent of food waste is fresh produce. One of the biggest causes of waste is that nobody knows shelf life.” founder and CEO of OneThird, Marco Snikkers said.
Quality inspections (检查) at farms and distribution centers are done manually (手工地). An inspector checks
the fruits and vegetables and makes notes about the size and quality. Then the food is sent to consumers without considering travel time or how long the produce will remain usable.
Using the infrared scanner at the distribution center means that inspectors can use the information to approve shipments that will ensure the produce can be distributed on a timely basis. This means that a shipment of ripe tomatoes will not be sent long distances away.
OneThird’s scanner combines the technology of visual scanners, image modeling, and Artificial Intelligence to provide exact shelf-life predictions.
The startup found that the technology can reduce up to 25 percent produce waste that was caused by spoilage. “Global food waste has a great environmental impact; reducing global food waste cuts global greenhouse gas emissions and promotes global food security,” said Jacob Smith, a climate expert from the University of Maine.
What problem does OneThird aim to solve
The high cost of storing fresh fruits and vegetables.
Inefficient quality inspections at distribution centers.
Food waste caused by uncertainty about its shelf life.
Consumers’ difficulty judging the freshness of produce.
What inspired OneThird to come up with the idea of using infrared scanner
The use of the device in another field.
Observation of the food-supply chain.
Consumer demands for fresher produce.
Experts’ advice on food waste reduction.
What can we learn about the manual quality inspections
They are time-consuming and costly.
They are not performed at a regular time.
The inspectors often make wrong judgement.
The shipping time is not taken into consideration.
What’s Jacob’s attitude to OneThird’s effort
Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Indifferent.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2. 5 分, 共 12. 5 分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Music exists in almost every human culture on earth. The oldest discovered musical instruments date back over 40,000 years to the Stone Age. 36 It originated alongside language in early human communication. Why did music become so well connected into the human experience over the long history Evolutionary psychologists say it gave important survival advantages to our ancestors.
In prehistoric times, music promoted tighter social bonding between group members. Singing and drumming
together released ( 释放) chemicals like dopamine and endorphins, inducing positive emotions that strengthened social connections. 37 This could also help to indicate identity and territory (领土).
Early music likely aided communication too. Rhythmic drumbeats and calls organized the actions and movements of groups during hunts or battle. Singing while working made labor less boring. Mothers may have sung simple tunes to children as an early form of emotional communication.
38 Group members’ beating drums and making noise during the night signaled that they were alarmed and ready to fight surprise enemy. Young night watchmen sang to show they were awake. Soldiers guarding territory used instruments to send warning calls across longer distances.
In all these ways, music increased survival chances in human evolution (进化). Supporting this, scientists have
discovered specific regions of the brain devoted to musical processing. Children have an inborn ability to find musical patterns and different musical sounds. 39 So next time you find yourself singing along to an easy tune, remember you are using an evolutionary heritage which goes through thousands of years! Music is part of what makes us unique human. In the past, our Stone Age ancestors sang and drummed because it increased survival.
40
Music also strengthened defenses.
Music can bring humans a lot of joy.
Music also helped to win the battle.
But scientists believe music itself could be much older than that.
We connect with music now simply because we are born to do so.
F.Even patients with severe dementia (痴呆) react actively to their favorite childhood songs.
G.This allowed groups to cooperate better in hunting, children-caring and protection against outside threats.

Emily White was born with so many problems in her body. Some of her organs ( 器官), bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance.
In Emily White’s hometown, there was a yearly outdoor performance in the school auditorium ( 大礼堂). It had been performed for so many years and had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town’s residents. Many people tried out each year for it, but most of them were turned away. It could only include the most excellent people in the field.
Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens—her music teacher to ask to join in the
performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a look at Emily’s body and said, “Child, you just don’t fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too. Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again.
This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Buttler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try. Emily didn’t want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr. Buttler called, “Emily, you’re next.” Although kind of nervous, Emily did as Mr. Buttler told her to do. Mr. Buttler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr. Buttler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral (合唱的) room the next day.
Emily couldn’t sleep that night. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn’t fit and the great need to be
accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain because of stress.
