北京自然博物馆,现名国家自然博物馆(National Natural History Museum of China),是一座位于北京市东城区天桥南大街126号的大型自然历史博物馆。
建筑规模:馆舍建筑面积达23246平方米,其中展厅面积9987.8平方米,年接待游客量高达180万人次。
基本陈列:博物馆设有无脊椎动物、古爬行动物、恐龙公园、古哺乳动物、动物人类朋友、植物世界、人之由来、神奇的非洲等多个展厅,展示了丰富的自然历史遗产。
珍稀标本:馆区珍稀标本数量在国内自然博物馆中居首位,截至2023年12月,藏品总数 共计40.16万件。其中包括世界上出现最早的有胎盘哺乳动物中华侏罗兽化石、复原全身羽毛颜色的赫氏近鸟龙化石、保存完整的“黄河象”化石等。

美国自然历史博物馆(American Museum of Natural History)是世界上规模最大的自然历史博物馆,美国主要自然历史研究和教育中心之一。该馆始建于1869年,位于美国纽约,占地总面积为7公顷多,建筑物为古典形式。其古生物和人类学的收藏在世界各博物馆中占居首位,除采自美国境内的标本外,南美洲、非洲、欧洲、亚洲、澳洲的代表性标本也都有收藏。
里面的陈列内容极为丰富,包括天文、矿物、人类、古生物和现代生物5个方面,有大量的化石、恐龙、禽鸟、印第安人和爱斯基摩人的复制模型。所藏宝石、软体动物和海洋生物标本尤为名贵。
2023年5月4日(美国当地时间),美国自然历史博物馆新建馆域“吉尔德科学、教育和创新中心”开放。

伦敦自然史博物馆1881年正式对外开放,而实际上加上前身的历史,已有250多年之久,拥有7500万动植物和化石矿物标本,是欧洲最大的自然历史博物馆。
英国自然历史博物馆拥有,其中古生物化石标本 700多万号,图书馆有书刊50万种,并保存着大量早期的自然研究手稿和图画等珍贵品。全馆有20间大陈列厅,内容包括古生物、矿物、植物、动物、生态和人类等六个方面。中央大厅为现代生命科学陈列厅,用立体景观、展柜介绍进化论和人类学知识。
