Jenny: Danny, why are you standing on one foot
Danny: I want to set a new world record. I will be the
champion of standing on one foot!
Jenny: And how do you feel
Danny: I’m so tired! How long will I have to do this
Jenny: Brian is coming. We can ask him. He has a book
of world records.
Danny: Hi Brian. I have been standing on one foot for more
than three minutes. I want to break a world record.
Do you know what the record is
Brian: (He looks in his book.) The record is eight hours. Don’t stop, Danny. In
seven hours and fifty-seven minutes, you’ll be the champion!
Danny: That’s too long! I’ll be late for supper!
Jenny: We’re having pizza at our house. Don’t worry. I’ll bring you a piece later.
Danny: That’s very kind of you, Jenny. But my family is going to
have a gathering tonight. Many relatives are coming,
and my mum is cooking chicken. I love chicken!
Brian: Well, you can’t walk there on one foot.
Danny: (He puts his foot down.) I’m walk there on two feet.
The gathering is more important than a world record!

The gathering is more important than a world record.
more important 是比较级，表示“更重要”。
当我们需要对事物作出比较时，需要用到比较级。
比较级的句子结构通常是：
...+ 动词be (am , is , are ) + 形容词比较级 + than +...
eg： I’m taller and heavier than you.
形容词的比较级的规则变化：
构成方法 原形 比较级
一般在词尾加-er long /warm longer/warmer
以e结尾的只加-r nice/fine nicer/finer
重读闭音节以辅音字母结尾，双写辅音字母加-er big/fat
bigger/fatter
以“辅音字母+y”结尾 先变y为i再加-er busy early busier/earlier
在原级前加more careful more careful

形容词比较级的用法：
表示一方超过另一方时，用“形容词的比较级+than”结构。
It is colder today than (it was) yesterday.
The sun is bigger than the earth.
1) 形容词的比较级前可加程度副词
(much, far, a lot, a little, even, still等)或用数量词组修饰，
表示“……得多”“甚至……” “更……”。
China is much larger than Japan.
My mother is two years older than my father.
(2) 形容词的比较级前可用表示倍数的词组修饰。
This bridge is three times longer than that one.
(3) 形容词比较级要避免与自身进行比较，要用
比较级+than any other+单数可数名词”来表示
“比其他的任何……都……”
Lin Tao is older than any other student in the class.
若不在同一范围内比较，则不用other。
Shanghai is larger than any city in Japan.
(4) 带形容词的比较级的惯用结构：“比较级+and+比较级”
和“more and more+形容词”, 意为“越来越……”
“the+比较级, the +比较级”意为“越……, 越……”
The city is becoming more and more beautiful.
