An Inspiring Person
Once inspiring people are mentioned, Helen Keller is one of the first who come to mind. Her life story has touched so many, showing how one can overcome even the most difficult challenges.
Helen Keller lost both her sight and hearing as a child. With the help of her teacher, Anne Sullivan, she learned to communicate and went on to become the first deaf-blind person to earn a college degree. She then dedicated her life to working for the benefit of those with disabilities.
Helen’s story teaches us the power of resilience and compassion. Her determination encourages us to face challenges bravely and reminds us to help others achieve their potentials.
第二节(读后续写,满分 25 分)
The big cleaning plan began. June collected the clothes from the sofa and then put them into a basin of water. After pouring in some washing powder, she began to wash them by hand. When the clothes were clean enough, Joan gently squeezed the water out and hung them to dry. Meanwhile, Mike was busy mopping the floor back and forth with all his strength. The children now became aware of the hard work their Mom had done at home. They had just finished the cleaning when a deliveryman knocked on the door. It was the cake.
With the cake placed on the table, mom came back. “Happy birthday ,mom !”they greeted in chorus. When she realized what was happening,a warm current flowed through her body. Looking at the clean floor and the clothes hung on the line, she could hardly contain her excitement and hugged them tightly. “It is the best birthday gift I have ever had!” Mom said emotionally. Just then, Joan took out her smartphone, recorded a video ,and sent it to Dad.

M:That sounds interesting.What's your logic
W:Well, think about it.Nature provides us with clean air, water, and resources. It's like a silent partner in our survival and development.

W:That's exactly my point. We need to shift from taking to investing.Protecting nature is in our best interest. That's what people need to understand.
M:I see what you mean.We should ensure that our "business partner" does well for the benefit of both sides.
W:Exactly. It's not just about saving trees and animals; it's also about securing our own future.
M:That's a new and unique way to look at it, nature as a business partner.I like that.
W:I'm glad you see the sense of it. Let's start treating nature with the respect it deserves. After all,we're all in this business together.
Text 10
When people ask me who my best friend is,they are often surprised when I say my father. However, my mother died when I was four,so for most of my life,it was just my father and me living at home. There were times when it was difficult. For example,my father barely has hair on his head and knew nothing about hair care, whereas I have long red hair that needs special attention. My father watched a lot of videos online to learn how to be both a father and a mother to me and help with a young girl's needs. But there were things he was always good at.He always supported me,no matter what I wanted to do.When I told him I wanted to be a professional soccer player,I thought he'd be disappointed because he's a big basketball fan.Instead,he took me to the sports store to buy boots and a soccer ball. Now I'm worried about him.I'm going away to a British university on a soccer exchange program. My father is going to be alone. That's why I have recommended him to come on your TV show. You help people find themselves. Since my birth,my father has given me the most precious two decades of his life. Now I want him to enjoy his own life. Please help him.射洪中学高2023级高二(下)第一次月考

Wan Yongqing, a Beijing photographer, visits Sichuan Province to take photos of pandas every other year. He has watched them for more than a decade. “My friends say I’m a big panda fan. It is a shame that I find all pandas look the same, with black eyes and white fur. It does not matter as all the pandas are cute to me,” he said.
Yet, identifying one panda from another does matter to researchers, according to Zhang Zhihe, chief of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. “Identifying individual pandas is important for conservation management and research. For captive(被圈养的))pandas, it is important for their daily feeding schedules, family backgrounds and data management. For wild pandas, it helps researchers study their population structure and provides scientific support for their protection and management,” he said.
China has carried out four scientific surveys on wild pandas, and now has a big databank about them. The number of wild pandas in China is mostly known. However, it is still difficult to determine the age, sex, health and other specific information about the population. “It’s difficult to track and watch the structure because wild pandas tend to live alone, deep in the mountains, and their living environment is vast,” Zhang added.
In 2017, the Chengdu base began researching individual panda identification technology by analyzing images. Over the past two years, they have built a databank of more than 120,000 images, over 1,000 video clips, and completed organizing nearly 10,000 images, which will do a favour to the facial recognition app.
24.How does Wan Yongqing feel about the pandas
A.They are difficult to get along with. B.They seem quite attractive to him.
C.They are easy to recognize. D.They look safe and unusual.
25.Why is it important to identify captive pandas
A.It is helpful for research and data management.
B.It is useful for studying their population structure.
C.It provides proof that they need protection in the wild.
D.It helps researchers build up their living environment.
26.What makes it difficult to track and watch wild pandas
A.They only live in a small area. B.They don’t leave enough tracks.
C.They are difficult to see in the forest. D.They live alone, deep in the mountains.
27.What is necessary for the facial recognition app to work well
A.The databank of pandas. B.The structure of pandas.
C.The invention of AI technology. D.The unique features of panda faces.

There is a famous story about how Walt Disney was inspired to build Disneyland. The story goes that during an afternoon visit to Griffith Park located near the Burbank Studios, Walt took a seat while his two young daughters rode the merry-go-round(旋转木马). Walt thought there should be a place where both children and their parents could enjoy spending some time together in an environment that would be both entertaining and pleasing to the eye, so with this thought came the idea for Disneyland.
Walt’s original plan was to build an eight-acre park located near the Burbank Studios that would be a place for his employees and their families. Those plans were put on hold because of the start of World War II. By 1952, Walt had created a special department to build the park.
Finally in 1953, the first steps in building the park happened when Walt hired the Stanford Research Institute to make a survey to determine the best possible location for the future park. Considering population growth and the future roads construction(建设), they finally found a location in Anaheim and 160 acres of land were bought for the site of the new park.
The building of the park was very expensive and to create funding for the project Walt developed the idea of the “Walt Disney’s Disneyland” television show. It turned out to be a marvelous idea — not only gaining the money to build the park but also presenting the park to the American public.
Construction officially began on July 21, 1954, and it was an ambitious (野心勃勃的) building schedule of less than one year to complete the new park for the projected opening day. Walt watched over the park’s construction and progress continued with just a few minor stops. Finally, the park was ready for the Opening Day on July 17, 1955.
28.What inspired Walt Disney to build Disneyland
A.The special design of Griffith Park.
B.A trip to a park with his daughters.
C.Requests from his family and employees.
D.The idea to build a park for his daughters.
29.What is mainly considered in choosing the location of Disneyland
A.Walt Disney’s personal preference. B.The natural environment.
C.The advice of the public. D.Local traffic.
30.What does the underlined word “marvelous” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Funny. B.Wild. C.Wonderful. D.Imaginative.
31.What can we learn about the construction process
A.It was smooth generally.
B.It was affected by World War II.
C.It was completed later than expected.
D.It was influenced by a shortage of money.
D
One day, there’ll be no need for you to brush your teeth by hand. Instead, a group of billions of nanoparticles (纳米粒子) could automatically do all that work for you. It would be especially life-changing for people who find it difficult or impossible to hold and move a toothbrush.
Steager, an engineer at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) in Philadelphia and Hyun Koo, an inventor and dental researcher there, found a way to form the nanoparticles into long, skinny bristles (刷毛), a lot like the ones on a toothbrush. But these bristles shape-shift to fit whatever surface they encounter.
The tooth- cleaning robot works thanks to two magnets (磁铁). One goes each side of the teeth. The nanoparticles sit in a liquid between the magnets. When the magnets are turned off, the nanoparticles move randomly in the liquid. As soon as one magnet gets turned on, the nanoparticles gather together near its center. When the researchers turn on the other magnet and turn off the first one, the nanoparticles extend outward in long, skinny bristles. When there’s a tooth in the way, these bristles can’t stretch out as far as they want. So they push against the tooth’s surface. If there’s a gap between teeth, they push into the gap. Moving the magnets makes the bristles move against and between teeth. All that motion cleans the teeth. As a bonus, the nanoparticles also have strong power to kill viruses.
The new device is just a proof of concept. The researchers still need to turn it into a product that people will want to use. “There’s a lot of engineering to get from here to there, but every good idea needs to have a start.” says Steager.
32.What is special about the tooth cleaner
A.It’s water-resistant.(防水的)
B.It looks like a toothbrush.
C.It’s shape-changeable.
D.It contains skinny bristles.
33.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The bristles’ formation. B.The working principle(原则,原理).
C.The virus-killing process. D.The magnets’ motion.
34.How does Steager feel about the future of the device
A.Uncertain. B.Unfavorable.
C.Concerned. D.Positive.
35.Which of the following would be the best title
A.A Shape-Shifting Robotic Tooth Cleaner
B.Magnetic Nanoparticles for Tooth Growth
C.A New Concept for Automatic Health Care
D.An Antibacteria(抗菌的) Liquid Tooth cleaner for Adults

She quietly went over to the living room. When she picked up the receiver, she heard warmhearted greetings,"Good morning, my dear!"Recognizing her father's voice, Joan was immediately surrounded by a sense of joy and the sleepiness swept away.
Joan's father was a seaman, who rarely came back.Born in a not-rich family, Joan and Mike felt the stress of life, but they were happy with the family atmosphere. At school, they were straight-A students throughout their academic careers and were actively involved in school activities.
“Good morning,Dad,what's up ”Joan said in an easy tone.“Today is your mother's birthday, and I have ordered her a cake online, and it should come to the house in one and a half hours.Do remember to take the cake.”
Joan felt a little ashamed. How can she forget Mom's birthday She took a glance at the dirty clothes piled on the sofa and the oily floor that hadn't been mopped (拖地)for a few days—There were two hours before her mother came back. She calculated she and her brother had enough time to prepare a surprise for Mom.
Thinking of this, she felt excited."Well,Dad,now I'm going to wake Mike up. We will give Mom a surprise!"
Joan hung up the phone, and hurriedly went to Mike's room to share her Big Cleaning plan with him.Mike readily accepted her idea.
