Do you know that many children have something with them such as a blanket(毯子) or a soft toy, and that without it, they can't sleep This kind of thing is a comfort object(慰藉物).
Comfort objects help children become independent(独立的)from their parents. When children are alone at home, they may feel afraid. The soft comfort object helps provide a feeling of safety. It’s the same as how they feel safe when they are with their parents.
Losing a comfort object can be a big problem. It's difficult to take the place of a comfort object even if the new one looks exactly like the old one. This is because the child doesn't have an emotional(情感的)connection with the new one.
Children aren't the only ones with comfort objects. Many adults keep their favourite childhood toys. Even if they look old after so many years of use, many adults still keep the objects they love. When they face changes in their lives, such as starting a new job or moving to a different place, a comfort object can help them feel better.
Some adults don't keep their old comfort objects. They develop a close association with new objects. These could be something like family photos or even cars. Looking at family photos can tell them that they are not alone. Having an emotional connection with a new object can make them feel at home in a new environment.

In today's world, it feels natural to multitask(多任务). To multitask means to do several things at the same time. We all have to multitask sometimes, especially when there's so much to do but not enough time. You've probably learned how to multitask from watching your-mum. She cooks, cleans, and cares for you all at the same time.
However, experts(专家)say that multitasking isn't what we think it is. Our brains are designed(设计)to deal with only one task at a time. Experts agree that instead of doing different tithe same time, were simply switching quickly between different tasks. It happens so fast that it feels like we're doing several things at a time.
But all that changing can tire out our brains. Studies show that multitaskers are often not very successful. When we separate(分开)our attention between tasks, we usually can't do them well.
Multitasking doesn’t save time in the long run either. Jumping between tasks usually takes longer than doing each task separately. It also increases the chances of making mistakes.
Teachers are worried about how multitasking may influence learning. When we try to study or listen to a teacher while also paying attention to other things, our ability to understand and remember is not as good.
If the influence on learning doesn't convince(说服)you to pay full attention to one thing at a time, maybe you will be convinced when we say multitasking can be dangerous and harmful. For example, multitasking while driving, like texting or using a phone, can lead to deadly accidents. Many countries have laws (法律)to stop certain kinds of multitasking while driving.

Woodpeckers(啄木鸟)are amazing animals! They make a loud noise as they hit their mouths against trees to look for food. But how do they stay safe when they hit the trees quickly A team of scientists tried to find out.
Sam Van Wassenbergh was part of the team. Van Wassenbergh and his team put out their report on July 18, 2022.
Van Wassenbergh and his team went to four zoos to research woodpeckers. They looked at three different kinds of woodpeckers. The team spent about 30 days recording videos of these woodpeckers and what they found was surprising! "Woodpeckers' heads do not absorb(减轻……的作用) the force created when they hit the wood, "Van Wassenbergh said. "Their heads are very hard like hammers (锤子). "
Scientists once thought woodpeckers' skulls(头骨) worked like helmets(头盔) spreading power out and protecting their brains. Van Wassenbergh watched the videos carefully. He found that the birds' heads shook a lot every time their mouths hit the tree and the power wasn't spread out. The birds weren't protecting their heads at all!
So, what's keeping their brains safe They don't actually need protection! Woodpeckers' brains are much smaller than human brains. Sudden hits don't hurt their brains as much.
Van Wassenbergh thinks these findings are important for humans. Some scientists once studied woodpeckers' heads to create helmets for humans. "Our findings show that is not a good idea," said Van Wassenbergh.
Van Wassenbergh has advice for kids too. "Learn as much as you can about science, maths, and technology, "he said.

Music plays an important role in our culture. You can find music in many parts of our lives: television, movies and celebrations.
Children of all ages express themselves through music. Even young babies move their hands while listening to music. School-age children begin expressing their likes and dislikes of different types of music. They may express an interest in music education, such as music lessons for kids. Teenagers may use music to form friendships and share feelings. They often want to hang out and listen to music after school with a group of friends.
A study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually be good for brain development. According to the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM Foundation), learning to play an instrument can improve math learning.
Dancing to music helps children build motor skills(运动技能)while allowing them to practice self-expression. For children and adults, music helps strengthen memory skills.
We are able to enjoy the benefits of music from the moment we were born. Of course, the most important thing is: music brings us joy. Just think about listening to a good song in the car with the window down on a beautiful day. That's a joy.
