Dear boys and girls,
As you have noticed, more and more students are addicted to cellphones, which does harm to their health mentally and physically.
First, staring at a cell phone screen for hours can lead to dry eyes or other eye diseases. Besides, on your way home or to school, with your attention fully focused on the cell phone, perhaps you will fail to notice the traffic around you, which will be a great danger to you.
I think it’s high time that we should use it appropriately. Try to set cellphones aside. Only in this way, can we meet the better ourselves.
The Students’ Council
Dan walked away, leaving me in despair. I felt dead inside, like nothing mattered. My mind went blank for the rest of the school day. My heart broke when I saw all my friends gathering after school, joking and laughing around. It was then that it occurred to me that nobody was going to give me a position on that team. I would have to earn it by myself. Having made this mental breakthrough, I decided to work for my goal of making the team. I decided to hit the gym every day.
After almost a year of practicing, I tried again. I felt confident. Regardless of the outcome, I knew that I had worked hard. The next day, I found out that I was on the list. Seeing my name printed in large bold letters on the name list made me feel excited. My dream came true finally. I became a member of the school basketball team. From the experience, I realized that the greater efforts we made, the sweeter reward we would get and that success needed painstaking efforts and patience.

Text 1
M:I’m a huge fan of tea, so I have plenty of e and choose what you want.
W:Sure. Hmm…green tea with lemon, rose tea… Oh! I’ve never tried white tea before. Is it nice
M:I’ll make you a cup and you can see what you think! (1)
Text 2
M:Wow, I love this song! It’s the theme song of my favorite TV show.
W:“Rainy Land” I love it too! The band that wrote the song provides a lot of music for movies. Do you know them
M:No, I only know “Rainy Land”. (2)
Text 3
W:It says in this article that exercising later in the day could help manage blood sugar better than working out in the morning. (3)
M:Oh, really
W:Yeah. It says the information is only based on one small study, but it’s still interesting.
Text 4
W:What do you think of this AI painting
M:Hmm… Well, it’s a pleasing subject. (4) But I’ve found that it has just mixed many famous paintings from different artists. And the color hurts my eyes.
Text 5
W:Do you really think live streaming can help me
M:Sure! It is great for increasing sales and bringing in new customers. And it’s perfect for a business like yours. Make-up is a perfect product for showing on social media. (5)
Text 6
M:You must be new to this course. What made you want to learn about acting (6)
W:It’s not that I want to pursue acting in movies or theater. My mother was an actress when she was my age. So, I wanted to learn these skills like her. (6)
M:I love that. And you’re in high school, so it’s a perfect time to learn performance arts.
W:Yes. Which skills do you teach in this class (7)
M:My main talent is singing. (7) But I also teach dancing and character acting when the teachers are on sick leave.
Text 7
M:So, how’s the new apartment (9)
W:Absolutely tiny! But there’s a great café nearby, and it only takes me five minutes to cycle to the office. (8)
M:Lucky you! It took me almost 45 minutes to get here this morning. (8)
W:Honestly, I love it. But it’s rather empty-looking. I want to make it more welcoming and look fuller, (9) but I’m struggling to choose colors. I absolutely love red. But that would be too powerful in such a small space.
M:Well, don’t they say that white walls make a space seem bigger
W:Yeah. But I think white often looks “cold” and boring.
M:What about something warm and bright, like light yellow or orange
W:Hmm… That’s a great idea. I haven’t considered those colors.
W:Hi, thanks for coming. I was driving and the car just stopped. I pulled over and phoned for assistance.
M:Okay, let’s see if I can get it going again. Can you tell me anything more Like, was the car making any noises before it broke down
W:Only when it began to stop, not before. I was going along without any problems, then it began losing power.
M:Let’s look at the engine. Can you turn the keys, please
W:Okay.
M:It’s not the battery because the lights are working. The engine all looks good, to be honest. When was the last time you filled up with petrol (11)
W:Er, not for a while. So, petrol isn’t likely to be the problem. Do you think it’s run out (11)
M:It certainly looks that way! See… (11)
W:Oh dear. I feel so stupid. (11)
M:Don’t worry. This happens to lots of people. We’ll soon get your car running again!
M:Okay, Ling, have you decided on a topic for your end-of-year report
W:Yes, Mr. Yang. I want to write about China’s rural revitalization(乡村振兴) program. (16)
M:Okay, great. Have you done any research so far (14)
W:No, I’m still in the planning stage. I’d like to have a good structure decided before I begin writing. (14)
M:Okay, tell me what you’re thinking.
W:Well, there are many interesting aspects to this program, like environmental and social aspects, although I’m mainly interested in the economic side of things.
M:Interesting! Go on.
W:My father grew up on a farm. He went to college, but he always said he had no choice but to move to the city if he wanted to use his degree. Now, thanks to this program, the situation is changing. More young people are returning to their hometowns to start businesses in places with less competition. (15) (16)
M:And that’s what you plan to focus on (16)
W:Yes. (16) I believe the government’s plan to improve pay and conditions will turn the countryside into a place of opportunity and growth.
M:Well, it’s an interesting topic. I look forward to reading it!
Text 10
I turned 13 on the 22nd of January 2019, (17) and the first thing I did was register for a Facebook account. (18) Little did I know what I was getting myself into. I quickly began adding friends, sharing pictures and updating my status (状态). At first, I loved chatting and seeing into other people’s lives. (18) However, I soon saw a darker side to the online world. I posted a video of my cousin and I dancing to music, which received some mean comments from some of my classmates. (19) This kind of thing happened a few times, even though the girls involved were still nice to me in person. And it wasn’t just people I knew who were unkind online. After sharing my thoughts on a hobby group, I received some terrible private messages from a total stranger! These experiences really affected my confidence for a while. Then I realized that social media can help us understand the world, but it can also do us harm. I decided to focus on my real-life friendships and deleted my account. Now I’m older, I’m planning to go back on social media. (20) However, this time I’ll be stricter with what I share, and with the behavior I accept from others.
A篇
文章中提到,“You must keep up with your reading so that you can join as a part of your group.”
根据Fees部分“Kids from 8—18: 10 dollars a month”以及“Adults: 15 dollars a month.”
根据What you should do中“You should take down notes and thoughts as you read. Everyone in the book club is expected to join in the discussion.”
That makes it feel even more of a blessing when, on our third day there, a large mama whale approaches the boat. I’m splashing when I feel her nose press up into my hand. Though she’s wiser and apparently more alert than her child, she still decides to trust us.
由第二段中“What makes it even more sustainable is the ink (油墨) used to print words and photos, which is made from plants.
由第三段中“As its mission statement says, “The Mainichi doesn’t take action only through information, but also by solving global issues.” With joint efforts, this initiative has reached the corners of Japan and sold around millions of copies daily. 故选A项。
由最后一段“Approximately 95 million trees are lost for producing newspapers every year. The Internet, the number of whose users represents 62.5 percent of the population worldwide, has impacted how people look at the news and the print readership has declined dramatically. Likewise, the reinvention and reimagination of this newspaper can bring about a revolution in the publishing industry as well as having an environmental impact.
根据第一段 “a recent study reveals that frequently skipping between videos or fast-forwarding within them might not relieve boredom—it could actually make it worse.”
根据第二段 “People who frequently switch videos are seeking more interesting content, but this actually reduces their engagement and increases feelings of boredom.(频繁切换视频的人是在寻找更有趣的内容,但这实际上降低了他们的参与度,增加了他们的无聊感)”及第三段 “as the team notes, previous research has suggested that while boredom relief is a driver for people to use social media or smartphones, the use of such technology appears to make the feeling worse.
根据第四段“The initial two experiments had different results. One showed that people switch more when they find videos boring, and the other indicated that people thought the ability to skip or switch would reduce boredom.”
根据最后一段“Just like in a movie theatre, true enjoyment often comes from full immersion, not constant switching.”
上文 “I have been interested in Chinese Kunqu Opera since I was eleven years old ”提到作者对中国昆曲的兴趣始于十一岁,由此可知,作者在十一岁时爱上了昆曲。fall in love with 与 been interested in 为同义复现。
故选A。
由上文 “ I grew up in northern town with no Kunqu Opera performances”, 作者在一个没有昆曲演出的北方小镇长大,因此,从来没想过自己可以学习和表演昆曲,前后内容存在因果关系,故选A。
由下文 “often got up before 5 am to go to class”可知,作者经常早早地起床去上课学昆曲。
leave to导致;jump at欣然接受;break down分解。
由上文 “the many requirements on the form are the only way to artistic”可知,在形式上的诸多要求会使人们在表演时更加完美,故选A。
由下文 “with my studies and creations” 和 “Kunqu Opera is connected with my 13 and with the Western art world today” 可知,此处与 “is connected with” 意思相关,应是固定搭配mix...with “将......
由上文This ancient art form” 和下文 “the Western art world” 可知,此处指作者在现代艺术和诗歌方面的研究和创作中,art是原词复现,故选D。
故选A。
故选A。
由后半句 “which means I’m willing to step into different art forms”,这就意味着我乐意走进不同的艺术形式里,因此可以推出昆曲对我有一种魔力,故magical这个词符合语境,故选C。
“not...but...”
根据语境可知,give it a try“尝试一下”是固定短语,try的发音以辅音音素开头,故填a。
空处用非谓语动词imagining作伴随状语补充说明主语在“ordering more to take home”时的心理活动,故填imagining。

It’s a windy day in Laguna San Ignacio, and the waves seem to come from all directions. My children and I are riding on a 18-foot boat—small enough that we can reach down into the water if a gray whale swims up alongside. And then we see what we’ve come for: a heart-shaped shower of water and a dark mass rushing below it. As instructed, we splash (溅泼) the water to signal the huge whale, which turns out a mother with her baby. The baby soon swims beneath our boat, appears to blow mist in my face, then lies onto its side like a 2-ton puppy. Leaning down, I touched its skin gently. It feels electric. Also, a bit like petting a hard-boiled egg.
San Ignacio is one of very few places where a person can pet a whale. The whales come each year to give birth and to mate. If you’re lucky, you can shake hands with a leathery fin (鳍) or even plant a kiss on a cold, salty cheek. I usually worry about such interactions, because wild creatures can become deeply stressed by human contact. But boat numbers are strictly limited. And any whale that approaches a boat does so on its own terms. Like that baby whale, we see him a few times, and he seems to like being petted and splashed.
So we are two species, connecting through touch, but also through eye contact. Whalers used to call gray whales “devil fish” because these attractive creatures turn violent when threatened. That makes it feel even more of a blessing when, on our third day there, a large mama whale approaches the boat. I’m splashing when I feel her nose press up into my hand. Though she’s wiser and apparently more alert than her child, she still decides to trust us.

People have different ways of dealing with waste paper, specifically used newspapers. Some put them in the recycling area, while others keep them as wrappers. While these are both good measures, a Japanese publishing company had a better idea for their end use.
The Mainichi Newspapers Co., Ltd. invented the “Green Newspaper”, which allows people to grow plants with it. This unique newspaper was published on Greenery Day, which is an edition devoted to environmental news and made of green paper with seeds placed into it. What makes it even more sustainable is the ink used to print words and photos, which is made from plants. The publisher advised readers to tear the used newspaper into small pieces and plant them in a container with soil. They should water them, like they would do for any plant. Within a few weeks, the seeds will grow into plants.
This brilliant concept was invented by Dentsu Inc., one of Japan’s most distinguished advertising agencies, which works with the publishing company on the initiative. The publisher’s core belief is environmental sustainability. As its mission statement says, “The Mainichi doesn’t take action only through information, but also by solving global issues.” With joint efforts, this initiative has reached the corners of Japan and sold around millions of copies daily. Other such initiatives producing plantable paper are also seen in India and the US.
Approximately 95 million trees are lost for producing newspapers every year. The Internet, the number of whose users represents 62.5 percent of the population worldwide, has impacted how people look at the news and the print readership has declined dramatically. Likewise, the reinvention and reimagination of this newspaper can bring about a revolution in the publishing industry as well as having an environmental impact.

B. A Living Newspaper Gives Back to Earth
C. Used Newspapers Become Home to Plants
D. Many Companies Support Plantable Newspapers

In today’s digital age, browsing short-form videos on platforms like TikTok and YouTube has become a popular way to pass time. While there are truly engaging videos, there are also plenty of unremarkable ones. However, a recent study reveals that frequently skipping between videos or fast-forwarding within them might not relieve boredom—it could actually make it worse.
Dr. Katy Tam from the University of Toronto Scarborough, the lead researcher of this study, explained that boredom has a close connection with attention. “When the level of our engagement with a video doesn’t match what we expect, boredom sets in,” she said. “People who frequently switch videos are seeking more interesting content, but this actually reduces their engagement and increases feelings of boredom.”
The findings align with other studies: as the team notes, previous research has suggested that while boredom relief is a driver for people to use social media or smartphones, the use of such technology appears to make the feeling worse.
Tam and her team conducted seven experiments involving over 1,200 participants in total. The initial two experiments had different results. One showed that people switch more when they find videos boring, and the other indicated that people thought the ability to skip or switch would reduce boredom. But later experiments proved otherwise. For example, undergraduates reported higher boredom levels when they could skip within a video or switch between several short videos compared to watching a single longer video.
“Our research clearly shows that the act of fast-forwarding or skipping videos in an attempt to avoid boredom can backfire,” Dr. Tam said. “Just like in a movie theatre, true enjoyment often comes from full immersion, not constant switching.”
32. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The relationship between video switching and boredom.
B. How to avoid boredom while browsing videos.
C. The popularity of TikTok and YouTube among young people.
D. The importance of immersive experiences in movie theaters.

A. contrast with B. compare with C. agree with D. conflict with
34. What did the early experiments by Dr Tam’s team show
A. People switch less when videos are boring.
B. People have different ideas about video-watching.
C. The ability to skip or switch can reduce boredom.
D. Boredom has no relation with video-switching.
35. To relieve boredom while watching videos, Dr. Katy Tam suggest people ________.
A. skip through videos as often as possible

How to Teach Your Kids to Enjoy Hiking
Hiking is one of my favorite things to do. Ever since my kids were babies, we’ve been getting out of the house on most weekends to explore. Get exercise and fresh air.
A good, long, family hike gives us a sense of accomplishment. It creates opportunities for conversation. It brings us closer with a shared memories and experiences. 36
But how do we do it I often get this question from friends and strangers. They express surprise at my small children’s ability to walk 10-mile trial or their willingness to climb 2,800-foot mountains. Their children don’t even want to walk to school. 37 So what’s the secret
First of all, eat before you leave and carry food. It’s common for us to have a quick bite before we strike out on a trail. 38 But these are served at official stops, not just handed out freely.
Pack lots of water. There are few things more miserable than hiking while thirsty. I like my kids drink as much as they want because they can always stop to relieve (方便,上厕所) themselves along the way.
39 Kids like knowing where they are in the world. Maps are perfect for helping them to understand that. I always take some time before we leave to show them where we are, where we’re headed, and what the journey will look like. Point out landmarks that they will see. We talk about how long it will take so they don’t ask me. “Are we there yet ”
Remember, it’s not about the speed. It’s about steady progress. The last thing you want is a exhausted child who can barely continue. 40
A. Show them a route map.
B. Eating a lot of food is a fun thing to do.
C. Give them encouragement along the way.
D. Let alone walk for hours in rough conditions.
E. So set a slow, comfortable pace, and have fun.

My knees started shaking, yet my body froze; it felt as though my soul departed from my body and I had no control over it. Anxiously, I looked through the name list posted on the wall of the locker room. My heart was beating harder and harder as I slowly saw all my friends’ names on that list but could not find mine. At that moment, I froze; I just could not accept that all my friends were on the school basketball team, but I was not.
I was so convinced there was a mistake that I went and found the coach. “Mr John, are you sure that the name list you posted is correct ” I asked anxiously, dreading his answer.
“Yes, the names on the list are finalized. Sorry if you did not make it this year. There is always next year,” the coach replied without the slightest bit of pity.
I could feel the hot, bitter tears filling my eyes. All my efforts were in vain. I ran out of the room as fast as I could. As soon as I walked out, I saw my friends crowding into the locker room to look at the team list. I heard them shouting and laughing as I walked away. Every one of them jumped around with exuberance (生气勃勃) after seeing that they made the team. Trying to forget about the situation, I planned to head over to the cafeteria to buy some food, but Dan caught up with me on the way.
“Everybody is coming over to my house to celebrate! Will you be there ” he asked.
“I… I didn’t make the team,” I stammered (结巴).
