Being a high school coach provides wonderful opportunities not only to seek great skill from students in
sports, but also to implant( 灌 输 )in them some valuable life lessons. Donta Green, a hardworking coach at
Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has brought his school team to victory. Although part of
this is the result of physical fitness and practice, an improved general attitude has also played a key role in the
team’s success.
One way Green has changed his players’ behaviors is a strict no-bad-words rule. This applies to( 适 用
于 )players and coaches alike. If anyone uses bad language then they can expect to start doing push-ups. In
another way, the coach is also addressing the way the high school students dress. No students are to be seen
wearing trousers hanging too low and players should walk the corridors of the school in suit and tie.
This is having a positive effect on the students and their academic success, with the team grade average being
3.2. These changes are really affecting the way the players see themselves. As Keyshawn Morsillo, the team’s star
player, pointed out: “He’s changed us. Everyone on the football team used to have some bad behaviors. But he
has showed us the right way to be a successful man. We respect him and follow his footsteps. Really, he’s helping
turn us from boys to men.”
This is influencing the general attitude for these students not only in the school, but also in the wider
community, too.
“A lot of the things we do might seem like small things, but they add up to big things. There are things we do
that set us apart from other programs. It’s just a lot of simple disciplines. That’s what is lacking in a lot of our
young people.” pointed out Green.
While the team continues to impress, it’s important to pay attention to how these small steps can inspire
others. We can strengthen in our own children the importance of behaving properly.
24. Why did Donta Green try to change his players’ behaviors
A. To improve their entire quality.
B. To achieve their academic success.
C. To better their communicative skills.
D. To focus their mind on physical training.
25. What is the students’ attitude to the extra disciplines in the team
A. Negative. B. Supportive. C. Uncaring. D. Skeptical.
26. What do Green’s words mean in Paragraph 5
A. Some young people lack necessary disciplines.
B. All the students in his school behave very well.
C. Students’ correct daily behaviors are important.
D. A coach should set a good example for the students.
27. What is the text mainly about
A. A player is changing from a boy to a sport star.
B. A coach has brought his school team to victory.
C. A coach is teaching players valuable life lessons.
D. A football team has won the heart of community.

A survey of 2, 000 American adults finds that an average American spends nearly $3, 000 a year on unused
groceries (杂货).
The survey shows that when people do cook, a quarter of them always make more food than they’re able to
finish, usually with the intention of having leftovers (剩菜剩饭). On average, people have leftovers to put into
their fridges three times a week; however, they don’t always get around to using them up. Actually, a third admit
they’re likely to forget about leftovers once they’re out of sight. Forgetting about food is one of the top reasons
people end up having food waste, along with leftovers not being popular among family members(23%). While 4
in 10 have a strong desire to eat their leftovers, a quarter admit they get tired of eating the same thing before
they’re able to finish.
“With the rapid rise of food costs, wasting groceries each week hurts both nature and consumers’
wallets, ”says director of sustainability at HelloFresh, Jeffrey Yorzyk. “Families cook with the best intention of
using their leftovers, but our research shows that they’re generally not consuming all of those leftovers. Getting
creative with the food in your fridge can help families feel like they’re eating something new and exciting!”
For some people, what excites them at the supermarket doesn’t do it anymore when they get home. The
survey shows that 38% admit they’ve thrown food away simply because they don’t feel like eating it after
purchasing it. Some waste starts even before shoppers get home, as a fifth say they don’t know how much food
they’ll use when grocery shopping.
With these foods, 22% are not confident they know the best methods to store foods to keep freshness.
Happily, seven in ten are trying to cut down on food waste. In fact, once you’ve bought food at the grocery store,
there are a number of strategies to ensure you can save it completely and cook it smartly.
28. Which is the percentage of Americans preferring to have leftovers
A. 23%. B. 25%. C. 33%. D. 40%.
29. What is Jeffrey’ advice on leftovers
A. Eating them up at once. B. Deal with them inventively.
C. Using them to protect nature. D. Giving them up to save money.
30. What does the underlined part “do it” in paragraph 4 refer to
A. Attract the shoppers. B. Produce leftovers. C. Lose the freshness. D. Go to the fridges. 31. What might the author continue talking about
A. Benefits of saving foods. B. The art of cooking in the USA.
C. The recent studies of leftovers. D. Ways to reduce grocery waste.

As the world struggles to deal with climate change, some companies are working to capture(捕捉) polluting
carbon dioxide(CO ) from the air.
The heavy use of fossil fuels(化石燃料) over the last 150 years has released massive amounts of greenhouse
gases, like CO , which have caused the Earth to warm up.
Scientists say large amounts of CO must be removed from the atmosphere and stored. Plants and trees do
this naturally. But there’s so much CO in the atmosphere that just planting trees and protecting forests won’t
solve the problem. And, when plants and trees die, the carbon they’ve stored gets released again. That means
humans need to come up with ways of removing carbon from the air and storing it. This is called Direct Air
Capture(DAC).
A company called Heirloom has just opened the first DAC plant in the United States. Heirloom’s process
uses limestone, a common rock, to capture CO . The company heats up the limestone to separate out the CO ,
which is then locked away in concrete. Heirloom uses renewable electricity to produce the heat, so the process,
though expensive, doesn’t produce more CO . The new plant can remove 1, 000 tons of CO a year. That’s a tiny
amount compared to how much carbon needs to be removed from the atmosphere. But the company says it hopes
to remove a billion tons per year by 2035. Graphyte, another US company working on DAC, collects unwanted
plants and wood products and dries them completely so they can’t break down. Graphyte then smashes them into
small bricks and buries them deep underground.
Not everyone is excited about carbon removal. Some experts worry that it will take too long for DAC
technology to become powerful enough to make a difference. Others worry that focusing on removing carbon
could take attention away from more important climate actions, like switching from fossil fuels to renewable
energy.
32. What does the author try to say in paragraph 3
A. Protecting forests is necessary. B. The climate crisis is unavoidable.
C. Why DAC has come into being. D. Why there’s much CO in the air.
33. What’s the weakness of Heirloom’s carbon removal
A. It’s hard to find proper limestone. B. The process produces more CO .
C. It needs an amount of electricity. D. It doesn’t capture enough CO now.
34. Which do some experts agree with about DAC
A. It promotes renewable energy. B. It has a long way to go.
C. It can beat climate change. D. It is so cost-effective.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Exploring Methods of Removing CO
B. Building Two Plants to Capture CO
C. Planting Trees to Fight Climate Crisis
D. Replacing Fossil Fuels by Using DAC

Mrs. Grady welcomed her class back inside the warm cheerful room. The children settled down at their
desks, still chatting about the activities they had enjoyed over the winter break. It took a few minutes for
Mrs.Grady to get their full attention. “I'm so glad you're all back. I'm sure you're well rested and ready to get
back to work!” she smiled. The children made faces, but most of them were happy to be back at school with their
friends after two weeks off. “Since it's the start of a new year, we'll talk a little bit about something people do
this time of year. It's called making resolutions. Does anyone know what that means ” Mrs.Grady asked. The
teacher's eyes focused like lasers on the boy still chatting. They immediately stopped and looked down at their
fingernails to avoid her stare.
Olivia raised her hand. “I know. It's when you decide to do something different for the new year.”Olivia
always seemed to have the answers. Mrs.Grady nodded. “Yes, that's close. It doesn't have to be at the beginning
of the year, but a resolution is a decision to make some kind of change and stick to it.”
Several hands shot up in the air. Suggestions such as eating more vegetables, eating less candy, and
drinking lots of water were offered. Mrs.Grady agreed they were good choices to make for a healthy resolution.
“But the resolution we make is a bigger idea. And now, I would like all of you to take a few minutes to think
about what kind of resolution you could make this year, and a few ways you would be able to achieve it.” the
teacher suggested.

作文第一节:One possible version:
Eco-Art Exhibition: A Green Journey
Last week, the Student Union organized an inspiring Eco-Art Exhibition in our
school hall, aiming to raise environmental awareness through creativity.
The event featured over 50 artworks crafted from recycled materials like plastic
bottles and newspapers. During the exhibition, students demonstrated how discarded
items could be transformed into artistic works such as a 2-meter-tall sculpture made
of used textbooks. Interactive workshops allowed participants to create eco-friendly
bookmarks and exchange green ideas with environmental experts.
What impressed me most was how these artworks conveyed powerful messages
about sustainability. The experience deepened my understanding that everyone's
small actions—like recycling paper—can collectively make our campus greener.
Let's join hands to turn creative ideas into daily eco-habits!
