阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
An owl (猫头鹰) named Flaco escaped New York’s Central Park Zoo last week after his cage was broken. This set off a bird-hunt of police officers and park rangers (护林员) . Zoo officials worried that Flaco, who had been kept in his zoo cage for 13 years, may have lost the survival abilities he needed in the wild. They placed some of his favorite treats in the open air to attempt to trap him.
Flaco was not fooled. Instead, he was sighted flying over 5th Avenue, and Central Park’s skating rink. A number of New Yorkers came into Central Park to try to catch a glimpse of Flaco, taking photos with excitement.
But this week, zoo officials announced they accepted that Flaco remained in Central Park because he had been seen bringing up bones and fur from the park’s community of rats. “He has been very successful at hunting and consuming lots of rats in the park.” zoo officials told the New York Post. “And that’s amazing. He’s hunting on his own. He’s flying better. Flaceo really seems to be enjoying himself out there.”
There is a caution attached to this story of an owl who is making it on his own in the city that never sleeps. Owls are nocturnal. They go around searching for food at night. They sleep during the day, or try to, like lots of people who work the overnight shift. Yet some New Yorkers who don’t know proper bird-watching behavior reportedly see Flaco sleep in a tree during the day, and begin to shout at him. It interrupts his sleep. Flaco can’t try to say “shh, shh” with the traditional New York reply. After all, a bird can’t give someone the bird.
21.Why were zoo officials concerned about Flaco’s ability to survive
A.Because his favourite food was too little. B.Because he might be attacked by people.
C.Because his cage was severely damaged. D.Because he was kept in his cage for long.
22.What can we infer about Flaco from the third paragraph
A.He has adapted to the wild. B.He has found his previous home.
C.He still faces great challenges. D.He dislikes the rats in the park.
23.What does the underlined word “nocturnal” in paragraph 4 mean
A.Scary-looking. B.Shy and quiet. C.Active at night. D.Badly-behaved.
24.Which statement is true according to the passage
A.The park rangers set Flaco free on purpose.
B.New Yorkers do not care Flaco’s appearing in Central Park.
C.Owls often go around searching for food during the day and sleep at night.
D.Flaco managed to escape being trapped by the park rangers.

Sugar was my first choice when I was sad or happy, and the dependency and health consequences made it my abuser even as early as age five. For over twenty years after seven, every weight loss intervention failed me, leaving me feeling hopeless.
I was fourteen when I went to my first weight-loss camp. I knew that I would regain all the weight I’d lost when I went home. A little voice inside me whispered. “You should help people. You should make a program that really works.” That voice got louder with each failed diet. It sparked a need to help others who were struggling like me.
Eventually, I recognized that my issue was sugar. I broke up with sugar and dieting and found a way to heal my relationship with food. I finally created a program that would help people in the way that I had needed desperately all along.
That program took off. My clients discovered that their relationships with food could be loving and sustainable. As a result, I was often encouraged to take my message to a larger platform. But when l finally was committed to sharing my story with the world, I knew that I had to tell it all leaving no stone unturned.
My friend Rumi said, “The wound is the place where the light enters you.” Finally, I was ready to tell my story, shining a big and bright light on all the wounds. With anxiety screaming in my ear, I made progress and wrote Breaking Up with Sugar. Now, I receive daily e-mails from readers telling me that they finally feel heard and understood. They’re hopeful for the first time in their lives. To me, this is the truest meaning of life — to be truly healthy and loving. The greatest lesson I’ve learned on this journey is that. by embracing my truth, loving and sharing it, I am able to become the best version of myself — someone whom I love and cherish.

Linda Brown, a real estate agent, believes that when it comes to solving homelessness, it takes a village. She spent nine years supporting homeless people in Springfield, Missouri, through a charitable organization called The Gathering Tree, which welcomed people a few times each week during daylight hours, providing a safe and welcoming place for them to take showers, socialize, or simply rest. But they had to close their doors for the night. “One cold winter night, I watched as my friends walked off into the darkness to a wet, cold camp, while we went home to a warm bed,” Linda said, “I realized I had to do something.”
She had an idea to create a village of tiny houses to make sure no one slept outside on her watch! Linda started fundraising. She began by appealing to her fellow estate agents in the area before branching out into local businesses.
Using these donations, Linda purchased a nearby abandoned area that already had the infrastructure in place. By February 2019, they’d built 31 tiny homes for their Eden Village and found residents for each one. All the residents must be good neighbors in order to stay in the village, and they certainly are! Linda was happy when she learned that the village actually increased local property values rather than lowering them as some people had feared.
The driving philosophy behind Eden Village is as follows: The root causes of a person’s homelessness cannot be thoroughly addressed until his or her immediate housing needs are met. “When I watched my homeless friends walk into a hidden, wet, and cold camp, I realized I had to do something,” Linda said. “And that made me have the idea to build the tiny-home village that serves as a place where the chronically disabled homeless can live with dignity and self-worth.”
To this day, Linda firmly believes that there are a million reasons why someone can become homeless, but each of them can be solved with love and community involvement.

A.Generous and independent. B.Ambitious and scholarly.

All seven people have been rescued from a stricken cable car high above a remote Pakistan valley, a spokesman for the state-run emergency services said.
Pakistani authorities said army commandos (突击队), with the help of civilians, made the final rescues after an operation lasting hours. Floodlights were installed and a ground-based operation reached the remaining two people late on Tuesday more than 12 hours after their cable car was damaged, leaving it hanging unsteadily at an angle.
A helicopter had earlier plucked two children to safety before darkness. High winds meant the air rescue had to be called off. Rescuers used the cable keeping the cable car from plunging (突然向下冲) into the valley as a zip line to rescue three more children. Relatives of those trapped prayed while watching the operation and anxious crowds gathered on both sides of the valley, which is in a mountainous area of Battagram, about 125 miles (200km) north of Islamabad.
Several military helicopters had earlier in the day flown sorties and an airman was lowered by a set of bands to deliver food, water and mandos could be seen on local TV trying to lower themselves on ropes from the helicopters to the cable car. An expert confirmed that the rescue was delicate because the wind created by the helicopters’ blades could further weaken cables holding the car up in the sky.
The children trapped were teenage boys studying at the government high school. The school is located in a mountainous area and there are no safe crossings, so it’s common to use the chairlift. People who live in the northern mountainous regions of Pakistan often use chairlifts for transport from one village to another. In 2017, 10 people were killed when a chairlift cable broke sending passengers plunging into a valley in a mountain hamlet near the capital, Islamabad.
33.How many people were saved 12 hours after cable car was trapped
A.Two. B.Three. C.Seven. D.Five.
34.How was the rescue conducted by army commandos and civilians
A.By cable car. B.By helicopter. C.By floodlights. D.By a zip line.
35.Why did the air rescue had to be called off
A.The weather condition was tough with heavy rain.
B.The cable was left hanging at a dangerous angle.
C.The air rescue staff were incompetent.
D.The wind created by the helicopters’ blades is strong.
36.What’s the purpose of the last paragraph
A.To inform the underlying accident. B.To provide background information.
C.To indicate the following settlement. D.To public the rescuing result.

It took George quite a while to find a parking place for his car, and in the end he had to leave it on a narrow street some way from the dentist’s. As he got out he took a look at his watch: his appointment was at five and he still had forty minutes to spare. He crossed into the square and sat down on a bench, enjoying the afternoon sun. As he sat there, watching the children at play, he suddenly saw a red sport car like his pulling out of the street where he had parked. The car sped away and was soon out of his sight. George felt in his pocket, but he couldn’t find his keys. “My car!” he cried in a loud voice, which made several people stare at him. He got up and ran across the square, then down the narrow street. He found that his car was hidden behind a large one. He was relieved to find his keys still in his car.

How to be a responsible person
How to be a responsible person I'd like to say something about it based on the following three aspects.
I will take myself for example. First of all, I should take responsibility for our country. Only when our country becomes stronger and stronger, can we live a happy and peaceful life. So I must work hard and grasp advanced science and technology to contribute myself to our country. That's my responsibility. Second, I consider my family members, especially, my parents and grandparents as the most important people in my life. It is with their constant care and love that I grow up. So I will be greatly thankful to them. That's my responsibility. Third, as for myself, I'll strengthen my self-confidence and manage to go to my ideal university. That's my responsibility.
