Traditional face-to-face bullying has been identified as a risk factor for bully victims during childhood and adolescence. However, the emergence of cyberbullying (网络霸凌) indicates that some bullies have turned their attention to technology. Cyberbullies have the power to reach their targets at any time of the day or night.
The most common places where cyberbullying occurs are: social media like Facebook and TikTok, text messaging and messaging apps on mobile or tablet devices, chat rooms, and online gaming communities.
A survey of 23, 420 children and young people across Europe found that, although the vast majority were never cyberbullied, 5% were being cyberbullied more than once a week, 4% once or twice a month and 10% less often. Many studies indicate a significant overlap between traditional bullying and cyberbullying.
Research consistently identifies the consequences of bullying for the emotional health of children and young people. Victims experience lack of acceptance in their peer (同龄的) groups, which results in loneliness and social isolation (隔离). Young people’s consequent social loneliness is likely to lead to low self-respect and depression. Bullies too are at risk. They are at risk of a dependency on alcohol and drugs; like victims, they have an increased risk of depression.
The most fundamental way of dealing with cyberbullying is to attempt to prevent it in the first place. Parents play an important role in prevention by banning websites and setting age-appropriate limits of using the computer and Internet. Besides, young people are more likely to find it helpful to turn to peers. Peer leaders in school play a part in prevention of cyberbullying by creating bullying awareness in the school, establishing bullying intervention practices and encouraging students to behave actively as bystanders. Keep in mind the importance of dealing with bullying early before it becomes much more serious.

A.5%. B.9%. C.14%. D.19%.
11.What is the main topic of the last paragraph

C.The seriousness of cyberbullying. D.Parents’ role in stopping cyberbullying.
Narcissism (自恋) is a personality disorder that features an overblown sense of self-importance, a deep need for too much attention and admiration, and a lack of sympathy for others. For example, narcissistic individuals may constantly seek much praise, dominate conversations, or belittle others to boost their own self-worth. While some self-respect is healthy, narcissism often crosses the line into harmful behavior.
In recent years, studies have shown that narcissistic characteristics are on the rise among teenagers. For example, some teens constantly post self-taken photos on social media, carefully choosing the most flattering (显得好看的) angles to present themselves in the best possible light. And they eagerly await the likes and comments that improve their sense of self-worth. If they don’t receive enough positive feedback, they may become upset or even addicted to posting more photos to get the attention they starve for.
Another common behavior among narcissistic teens is talking constantly about themselves. In conversations, they tend to dominate the topic and focus on their own achievements, experiences, or opinions. They may boast (吹嘘) of their grades, popularity, or possessions, ignoring their peers’ ideas, feelings or concerns.
Social media platforms, where individuals can present perfect images of themselves, are often blamed for this increase. Teens might compare themselves to others online, feeling superior if they have more followers or more “likes” on their posts, and feeling unconfident if they don’t measure up. This constant comparison and competition can fuel their need for attention and admiration.
Moreover, family environment plays a significant role. Studies have shown that addiction and too much praise can lead children to believe they are superior to others, while emotional unavailability may cause them to seek attention. A study conducted by child psychology expert Dr. Smith found that children who were constantly praised without regard for their actual achievements were more likely to develop narcissistic characteristics. On the other hand, a child who feels ignored or unloved at home may try to gain attention in unhealthy ways and more likely to be narcissistic.
12.What can we know about narcissism
A.It’s an overblown sense of pride. B.It’s an overstated sense of shame.
C.It’s a lack of sympathy for oneself. D.It’s the ability to seek acknowledgement.
13.What contributes to the increase of narcissism
A.Family care. B.Social media. C.Sufficient praise. D.Proper attention.
14.What can be inferred about narcissism from the last paragraph
A.It is unique to teenagers. B.It is mainly caused by praise.
C.It is unaffected by likes on posts. D.It can come to a child feeling unloved.
15.What is the main purpose of the text
A.To discuss the importance of family environment.
B.To blame social media for the increase in narcissism.
C.To analyze the phenomenon of narcissism in teenagers.
D.To provide solutions for preventing narcissism.

The sound of the front door closing with a soft click echoed (回响) through the silent house. Emily stood in the hallway, her backpack hung over one shoulder, her eyes downcast. She had just returned from a meeting with her art teacher, who had praised her work and encouraged her to consider a career in art. Excitement arose within her, but she knew what awaited her at home would be far from enthusiastic support. The living room, with its neatly arranged old furniture and family pictures on the walls, showing an atmosphere of tradition and order. It was a contrast to the colorful chaos that Emily’s art studio had become, where canvases (画布) in various stages of completion leaned against the walls and paintbrushes lay on the table. The thought of sharing her dreams with her parents filled her with a mix of anticipation and fear, as she knew their expectations for her future were firmly rooted in more conventional paths.
It was a freezing evening when Emily arrived home, her shoulders dropped and her eyes red from crying. She had just had a huge argument with her parents over her
decision to pursue art instead of medicine. They didn’t understand her passion and saw it as a waste of time. Emily stormed into her room, keeping the door shut.
The following days passed in silence. Emily barely spoke to her parents, eating her meals in her room and avoiding any eye contact. Her mother, noticing the tension, felt a knot (纠结) in her stomach.
One day, Emily decided to focus on her art. She began to work on a new painting. It was a landscape, inspired by a place she had visited with her grandparents when she was younger. She recalled the vivid colors of the sunset and the way the trees waved gently in the wind. As she worked, Emily lost herself in the creativity. She mixed the colors carefully, applying them to the canvas with brushstrokes. The painting was a way for her to express her emotions and her love for nature.

But as they watched Emily work, they felt a growing sense of pride and an urge to communicate.
