◆Analyses of the teaching material:
【What】The topic of this part is about the Amazon rainforest. It is a documentary script, which introduces the basic information of the forest, its animal and plant species, biodiversity, its significance to the earth and the dangers it is facing.
【Why】The aim of this part is to lead the students to understand the significance of maintaining the balance of the Earth’s ecosystem, thus making the students raise the awareness of protecting the environment.
【How】The whole structure of the documentary is clear and orderly. This essay is
essentially an expository text, which has the main characteristics of this type of text: scientific in content, rigorous in structure, and precise in language.
◆ Analyses of the learners:
This lesson is designed for senior one students in high school. They have some basic skills of reading, like finding the topic sentence of each paragraph, and reading for the detailed information. They have some knowledge of environmental protection. But many of them lack knowledge about a documentary script and the Amazon rainforest.They are not able to do well in expressing themselves correctly in English. In addition, their English knowledge framework and learning quality still need to be improved. In this class, I would help them learn more about the Amazon rainforest, think independently and improve themselves through cooperative learning.

1. Understand the documentary script and summarize the basic information about the Amazon rainforest;
2. analyze the ways to protect the forest through discussion;
3. write an essay appealing to people to protect forests and the environment based on the discussion;

Step II. Pre-reading 给学生提供课本第二页插画和文章的标题让学生回答:Look at the title and the picture, what is the passage about 训练学生阅读能力——通过标题和插图猜测语篇内容,并且对文章的内容形成一个大致的概念,为接下来的阅读做准备。 2’ Individual work Class work

While-reading Fast-reading Task 1 让学生快速阅读文章,并找出每段的中心主旨句。 老师给出Tip:Topic sentence is always in the first or the last sentence of each paragraph. 让学生根据每段的主旨句将文章划分为不同的部分。 Task 2 要求学生快速阅读文章的数字部分,并完成第四页A2部分,并回答: What’s the function of figures in documentary scripts Task 1帮助学生通过找各段落主题句来掌握纪录片脚本各段落的具体内容和结构,帮助学生复习找主旨句的技能并为接下来的学生活动做好准备。 Task 2在了解纪录片脚本基本内容和结构的基础上,帮助学生复习在文章中快速定位数字的技能,并让学生再次认识到列数据对写作的功能。同时学习关于亚马孙雨林的一些基本知识。 7’ Individual work Class Work
Careful-reading Task 1 让学生阅读第一和第二段的内容,并且进行填空 Task 2 要求学生阅读第三段的内容,并根据老师给出的衔接词,找出文章中所提到的森林的不同层次,并在思维导图中填空。 Task 3 让学生大声齐读第四段的内容,并让学生在学案上的关于食物链的思维导图上填空。 Task 4 让学生齐读第五段的内容,并回答: 1. What is the function of the rainforest to us 2. What is the major danger to the rainforest Task 5 让学生根据所学的内容,完成文章内容的总结填空图表。 通过每段不同的task为学生了解亚马逊雨林的不同方面提功了指引。以任务为导向促进了学生对文章的认识。 Task 2 和 Task 3以思维导图的形式,让学生以直观的方式,对晦涩的文字有了更深的理解。 Task 2 直接用衔接词的方式带领学生找到森林的不同层次,让学生更进一步地认识到了衔接词的重要性,给学生以写作方面的指导。 Task 4 针对性问题的提出,使得学生对于雨林对于人类的重要性有了更深刻的理解,同时更加清楚了人类对于雨林生态的破坏,从而引起学生的反思,为post-reading 部分做铺垫。 Task 5 以图表的形式,让学生总结亚马逊雨林的基本特征,对文章有了更加深刻的记忆。 12’ Individual work Class Work

Post-reading Speaking 让学生六个人一个小组讨论:what can we do to protect the forest? 老师给学生提供表达观点句式: 1.We're supposed to/ We'd better... 2.It is a must/ good idea to... 3.It will be better if we... 4.We're advised not to.... 5.It is highly recommended that we should... 6.It is of great benefit not to... Writing 让学生进行写作,写作主题为: 假如你是李华,注意到家乡周边森林破坏严重,你们学校遂进行“保护森林,保护环境”为主题的征文比赛。 内容包括: 1.保护森林的重要性 2.如何保护(提出具体措施) 3.发出呼吁 注意:1.首尾段已提供,中间段词数60字左右 2.可以适当增加细节,以使行文连贯 在学生作品展示完后,老师给出适当的建议,并且提供sample以供学生学习。 Calling 老师以“Lucid water and lush mountains are invaluable assets.”这句话结束课堂,让学生再一次明白保护环境的重要性。 首先以讨论的形式,让学生思考该如何保护森林,让学生培养保护森林环境的意识。且给学生提供一些表达观点的句式,规范学生的表达,提高学生的口头表达能力。 然后,让学生对讨论的结果以书面的方式进行总结。同时要求学生用衔接词对不同的措施进行衔接,进一步加深学生使用衔接词的意识。 最后,老师以习主席“绿水青山就是金山银山”为结尾,更进一步让学生意识到保护环境的重要性,提高其认识。 20’ Class work Group work
