The oceans have a plastic rubbish problem, and it’s growing by 8 million tons a year. Three years ago, a Dutch teenager named Boyan Slat designed a solution: an ocean rubbish collection device that would collect ocean plastic without harming ocean life.
These days, Slat ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )is anxious to put his ocean-cleaning idea to the test. A passing grade might lead to the removal of nearly half of the plastic rubbish floating in the Pacific Ocean. But the process needs to be tested in real-world conditions before it can be fully started---or beat the criticism of scientists who are doubtful that it can work.
Slat’s idea is o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )pposite to existing oceanic cleanup methods: Instead of sending ships out to run after floating rubbish, position a fixed, floating, V-shaped buffer(缓冲物) in the ocean so that water moves through it, funneling(使流经漏斗状管道) plastic rubbish into a container while allowing animals to swim past the net-free device.
To test the idea, ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) Slat and his company, Ocean Cleanup, plan to place a 6,561-foot-long float in the Korean Strait by spring 2016. If realized, it would be the largest floating structure ever used. If the technology works, Ocean Cleanup hopes to build a 62-mile-long system that would float somewhere between Hawaii and California. This one would be big enough to deal with an area containing millions of tons of plastic rubbish.
When it first ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) conquered the Internet in 2013, Slat’s plan caught hearts around the world. But the scientific community doubts whether it would work, how effective it would be, and its possible environmental influence. Slat and the 100-member staff of his company, Ocean Cleanup, answered last year with a 530-page report stating that a 62-mile-long model would remove 42 percent of the plastics in thr Pacific Ocean in less than 10 years.
64. Boyan Slat invented the device to ______________.
A. remove ocean plastic B. catch scientists’ attention
C. protect the ocean life D. beat the criticism of other teenagers
65. What can we infer about Slat’s invention
A. It works mainly with the V-shaped buffer.
B. It changes its position with the wind.
C. It collects rubbish with some nets.
D. It uses funnels to control the floating plastic
66. Which of the following is true according to the passage
A. Slat tested the device in the Korean Strait.
B. Ocean Cleanup needs to prove the value of its new devices.
C. Slat’s device works well in the Pacific Ocean.
D. Ocean Cleanup bulit a 62-mile-long floating struture.

Teenagers who d ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )rink alcohol are at higher risk of becoming victims of violence, a Cardiff University study has found.
A team from the School ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) of Dentistry’s Violence Research Group studied drinking habits in children aged 11-16 in England. They found not only a link between drink and violence but also that children who drank were more likely to be hit, even if they weren’t violent themselves.
The researchers ar ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e now calling for measures to prevent alcohol misuse to reduce injury risks. Current policy focuses on reducing aggression but this research shows that there should be equal effort to reduce victimization.
More than 4,000 children were surveyed at 13 schools at four local authorities in the North, the Midlands, London, and the South. The study found that 25% of 11-year-olds were drinking monthly and 3.6% daily, with 12.8% admitting to get drunk 3 to 5 times a year. By the age of 16, 40% were drinking weekly and 6.2% were drinking every day. The research also showed 22.6% of 16-year-olds were getting drunk more than 21 times a year.
The study, w ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )hich has just been published in the Journal of Adolescence, found a strong link between frenquency of drinking and frenquency of hitting other people.
However, chi ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ldren who were reported drinking monthly were also three times more likely to be hit. Adolescents who drank but didn’t get into fights were more likely to be hit than those who did fight.
Professor Jonathan ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) Shepherd, who led the research, said a lot of previous alcohol-related violence work had focused on the offenders rather than the victims. His team is calling for more prevention work from parents and teachers in the first two years of secondary school by taking advantage of the “teachable moment”, that is, immediately after a student has missed school because of drunkenness.
Previous work by Pr ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ofessor Jonathan Shepherd has shown drinkers may be more at risk of violence because of reduced physical co-ordination, poor decision-making in threatening situations and isolation while out late at night.
He said, “This new s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )tudy seems to be the first to show a direct link between alcohol misuse and victimization. There now needs to be much more effort put into reducing alcohol misuse in order to reduce injury.”
67. The main idea o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )f the passage is that teenagers who drink alcohol _____________.
A. often offend othe ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )r people B. are more likely to become victims of violence
C. often become injured D. are more likely to fight with others
68. The underli ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ned word “aggression” in the third paragraph probably means _______.
A. bad manners B. sad feelings C. violence D. drunkenness
69. Drinkers may ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )be more at risk of violence because of all the following EXCEPT ______.
A. a high fr ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )equency of hitting other people B. reduced physical co-ordination
C. isolation while o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ut at night D. poor decision-making in threatening situations
70. Which of the foll ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )owing statements is NOT true according to Professor Jonathan’s research
A. The frequency of children getting drunk increases with age.
B. Some children missed school because of drunkenness.
C. His previous alco ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )hol-related violence work had focused on the offenders.
D. This new s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )tudy shows a direct association between alcohol misuse and victimization
第四部分:任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

Bike share programs range from small, community-based programs that offer bikes for free use to larger, technology-based services that involve public and private partnerships. Whichever form, they share common goals: fewer traffic jams in large cities, more lasting means of transportation, improved safety of communities and better health for riders.
While many Europeans h ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ave relied on biking as a form of transportation for many years, bikes share programs were introduced in large cities of the U.S. to encourage non-bike riders to join along and make it convenient for people to get around town without having to worry about locking up their bike or maintaining it.
This original ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) programs that offered free bikes were ruined by theft and vandalism(故意破坏), but newer technology has helped decrease crime. Most large programs have electronic cards, computer or telecommunication tracking, and a system that stores credit card information. Bikes are usually clearly designed or colored so they are immediately recognized and some have parts that won’t work on other bikes. With membership fees at usually around forty dollars every year, they are significantly cheaper than driving and public transportation.
In the United States, community bike programs have been around for years. Portland’s Yellow Bike Project started in 1994. SmartBike DC, which started in 2008, and over one hundred bikes spread around Washington, D.C. New York City has an experimental bike share program in the summer; Portland, Minneapolis, Arlington, San Francisco, Boston, and Chicago are all intending to start small bike share programs.
Colleges have ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) also been interested in community bikes. At the University of New England, for instance, students are given a $260 bicycle, for free, in exchange for leaving their car at home with their parents. However, many have had to stop programs due to unreturned bikes and vandalism
Starting bike shar ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e programs isn’t easy. Even the large programs in Europe still face theft and vandalism, and ridership drops during the winter and maintenance fees can add up. One disadvantage in the U.S. is that many communities aren’t set up for biking; they’re set up for driving. Long travels and a lack of bike lanes can’t necessarily be solved with easy-to-access bikes. Yet for those cities that are relatively flat and crowded, bike share programs —and increased bike ridership in general — offer so many benefits you have to wonder if two wheels might be the ride of the future.
