阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

When we were children, everything we saw was new, wonderful, exciting and unbelievable. We were happy if it was raining or snowing,if it was hot or cold,if it was night or day.We just wanted to discover all the things that were around us.
For us the only big difference was that we were awake or asleep. When we were awake,we wanted to lengthen the time just for playing with our friends or being with our pets a little more time.
But we can’t stop time.Children grow and we become adults, and as adults,we no longer have enough time for little things—discovering a rainbow(彩虹) is not surprising, seeing a building with 50 floors is not surprising either, and looking at wild animals in the zoo is normal.A rainy day is a bad day because the traffic will be slow, and the first day of spring makes us think about allergies(过敏症).
The first day of the month is not the beginning of a new month, it’s the time to think about bills.Going to the supermarket is an obligation(责任);it is not just for the pleasure of walking and looking for things while seeing the people around us.
Life is a process in which everyone has many obligations, but if everyone tried to see life through the eyes of a child,I am sure that everyday could be better.

Food Festivals around the World
Stilton Cheese Rolling
May Day is a traditional day for celebrations, but the 2,000 English villagers of Stilton must be the only people in the world who include cheese rolling in their annual plans.Teams of four, dressed in a variety of strange and funny clothes, roll a complete cheese along a 50-metre course. On the way, they must not kick or throw their cheese, or go into their competitors’ petition is fierce and the chief prize is a complete Stilton cheese weighing about four kilos (disappointingly, but understandably the cheeses used in the race are wooden ones). All the competitors are served with beer or port wine, the traditional accompaniment for Stilton cheese.
Fiery Foods Festival-The Hottest Festival on Earth
Every year more than 10,000 people head for the city of Albuquerque,New Mexico. They come from as far away as Australia, the Caribbean and China, but they all share a common addiction—food that is not just spicy, but hot enough to make your mouth burn, your head spin and your eyes water.Their destination is the Fiery Food and BBQ Festival which is held over a period of three days every March. You might like to try a chocolate—covered habanero pepper—officially the hottest pepper in the world—or any one of the thousands of products that are on show. But one thing’s for sure—if you don’t like the feeling of a burning tongue, this festival isn’t for you!
La Tomatina-The World’s Biggest Food Fight
On the last Wednesday of every August, the Spanish town of Bunol hosts La Tomatina—the world’s largest food fight.A week-long celebration leads up to an exciting tomato battle as the highlight of the week’s events. The early morning sees the arrival of large trucks with tomatoes—official fight-starters get things going by casting tomatoes at the crowd.
The battle lasts little more than half an hour,in which time around 50,000 kilograms of tomatoes have been thrown at anyone or anything that moves, runs,or fights back. Then everyone heads down to the river to make friends again—and for a much-needed wash!

We parents often take material things for love.“I give him everything,” a disappointed mother complains,“New shoes,video-games,his own TV.You’d think he’d at least show me respect!”
Of course, love and parents are related. Most parents work hard to earn money. They want their children to have more than they did and have better lives. The problem is,most children don’t connect the things parents buy with the labor that pays for them.Children have more, but our culture—and television in particular—teaches them that more is never enough.Having more does not mean that a child feels loved.
From a parent’s point of view, children are not thankful. But this has to do with their natural growth.Young children see their parents as all-powerful.If parents fail to provide what they want,it must be a matter of choice. It’s normal for children, even school-age ones, not to be able to take another person’s point of view. For example, they may dislike their parents for working long hours. And not realize that the parents would also rather have more time at home.
In addition to giving presents,we have to find other ways to express love and create memories.Reading or telling stories together. Making music and playing games are all ways for families to spend time without spending money.Traditions like reading favorite poems and even snowball fights all serve the same purpose. Most importantly,as parents,we have to learn to hold back some energy from our tiring jobs. When we’re present for our children,we ourselves become the presents we want to give.

The garden city was largely the invention of Ebenezer Howard (1850—1928).After immigrating from England to the USA,and an unsuccessful attempt to make a living as a farmer,he moved to Chicago, where he saw the reconstruction of the city after the disastrous fire of 1871.In those days,it was nicknamed “the Garden City”,almost certainly the source of Howard’s name for his later building plan of towns.Returning to London,Howard developed his design in the 1880s and 1890s,drawing on ideas that were popular at the time, but creating a unique combination of designs.
The nineteenth-century poor city was in many ways a terrible place, dirty and crowded;but it offered economic and social opportunities. At the same time, the British countryside was in fact equally unattractive:though it promised fresh air and nature,it suffered from agricultural depression(萧条) and it offered neither enough work and wages, nor much social life.Howard’s idea was to combine the best of town and country in a new kind of settlement, the garden city.Howard’s idea was that a group of people should set up a company, borrowing money to establish a garden city in the depressed countryside;far enough from existing cities to make sure that the land was bought at the bottom price.
Garden cities would provide a central public open space, radial avenues and connecting industries. They would be surrounded by a much larger area of green belt, also owned by the company, containing not merely farms but also some industrial institutions. As more and more people moved in,the garden city would reach its planned limit—Howard suggested 32,000 people;then, another would be started a short distance away. Thus, over time, there would develop a vast planned house collection, extending almost without limit; within it,each garden city would offer a wide rang of jobs and services, but each would also be connected to the others by a rapid transportation system, thus giving all the economic and social opportunities of a big city.
